Wenn ein Hellseher-Kraken einen Sieg über England voraussagt, kann ja nix mehr schief gehen, würde ich mal behaupten. Snip von BBC:
A “psychic” octopus is said by its aquarium owners to have predicted the country’s football team will knock England out of the World Cup.
When consulted, Paul the octopus chose a mussel from a jar with the German flag on it ahead of one in a similar jar bearing the cross of St George.
The two-year-old cephalopod has a record of predicting past German results in this manner, his owners say.
Paul has so far correctly predicted all of Germany’s results in South Africa.

Sehr schönes Poster für Mondo Tees von Jeff Soto mit meinem heimlichen Lieblingsrobot aus Star Wars: Gonk, der übrigens tatsächlich meine allererste Star Wars-Actionfigur war, damals. Das Poster war innerhalb von Minuten ausverkauft, natürlich.
Star Wars was a pretty big deal for me as a kid. I was only 2 when the movie came out, and I can’t even remember if I saw it or not in the theater. The characters and story were known to many of us mainly from the toys! The toys! Oh they were wonderful, and we played with them for hours (and wore out the BEST and Sears catalogue)! One of my favorite action figures was the Power Droid, and I didn’t really know much about the little guy, but for some reason he (I pictured it being male for some reason) captivated my imagination. I realized at some time that he’s barely even in the movie, which added to his mystique. Over the years he functioned as the worn out, floppy-legged power supply for numerous Transformers, GI Joe’s and Construx. He is small and cute, and found a place in my childhood heart. I still have the little guy. This piece is an ode to the Power Droid!
Doku: Woodstock – Wie der Mythos entstand

Nette Doku über das Woodstock-Festival, leider in einer (zumindest zu Beginn) leicht drögen Tonalität. Wer’s etwas frischer mag, dem empfehle ich den wunderbaren Film von Ang Lee: „Taking Woodstock“ (Amazon-Partnerlink: Taking Woodstock).
Die “Woodstock Music & Art Fair” im August 1969 gilt bis heute nicht nur als berühmtestes Rock-Festival aller Zeiten, sondern als die Mutter aller Festivals. Und obwohl es vorher und nachher Hunderte anderer Festivals gab, ist nur Woodstock zu einem Mythos geworden. In dem Dokumentarfilm “Woodstock – Wie der Mythos entstand” erzählen Woodstock-Veteranen, was zu diesem Mythos beigetragen hat.

Epic Star Wars-Shortfilm shot behind the Scenes of „Return of the Jedi“
„Return of the Ewok“ ist ein supersympatischer Kurzfilm von David Tomblin, Regie-Assistent bei „Empire strikes back“ und „Return of the Jedi“, die mit 25 Minuten zwar nicht wirklich schnell weggeguckt, aber nicht nur aus Nostalgiegründen jede Minute wert ist. Im Film spielt der 15jährige Warwick Davis, der bei Return den Ewok Wicket spielte, sich selbst auf dem Weg zum Schauspieler und der Film zeigt so ziemlich alle der Hauptfiguren (bis auf Obi Wan) in ihren Kostümen.
Warwick trifft im Wicket-Kostüm auf Luke, Han, Leia (im goldenen Bikini), landet in Jabbas Palast, tanzt zu dessen Band, wird von Boba Fett und Vader durch den Todesstern gejagt, fliegt mit einem Astronauten, den er am Flughafen trifft, mit einer Saturn-Rakete auf Endor, um dort seine Ewok-Kollegen zu treffen und jagt schließlich mit versengtem Hintern den Schutzschild-Generator hoch und das ist wahrscheinlich das grandioseste Stück Star Wars-Nostalgie, das ich hier jemals gezeigt habe. Da bleibt mir nicht viel mehr, als ein langgezogenes und aufrichtiges AAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Die Qualität ist alles andere als berauschend, aber das ist alles davon, was ihr höchstwahrscheinlich jemals davon sehen werdet: Die Original-Tapes gelten als verschollen und das hier ist eine zusammengeschnibbelte Version aus einem 4minütigen Ausschnitt, den es mal auf Starwars.com zu sehen gab und einer mitgefilmten Camcorder-Version eines der seltenen Screenings auf einer StarWars-Convention. Und ja, na klar, das Ding ist online auf Youtube, hier die drei Clips, nach dem Klick noch eine zusammenhängende Version von Google-Video.

Return of the Ewok is a 24-minute mockumentary starring Warwick Davis, the actor who played the Ewok, Wicket W. Warrick in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and the Ewok spin-off films. Davis and David Tomblin, Return of the Jedi’s first assistant director, created it, with Tomblin directing. Lucasfilm planned to use the movie as a promotional film for Return of the Jedi, but post-production on the film was never completed.
The film is set in both the “real world” and the fictional locations of the Star Wars universe. Real world locations include an airport, Elstree Studios and the actors’ dressing rooms, while the fictional locations include Dagobah, the Death Star II, Jabba’s Palace, and Endor. Throughout the film, these two realities are intermixed to produce an alternate reality. (Wikipedia)
Return of the Ewok focuses on the fictional account of Davis’ decision to become an actor and act as Wicket in Return of the Jedi. It also follows his transformation into Wicket. The film was shot on Tomblin’s own 16 mm camera and created during production of Return of the Jedi. As Warwick and as Wicket, he visits and interacts with many of the cast and crew of the movie and then characters of the movie. As Warwick, he goes to Elstree Studios where he interacts with the cast, both in and out of character. At one point, he even interacts with Luke Skywalker as he jumps out of a movie screen. As Wicket, he goes to Dagobah to see Yoda, and the Death Star he sees Darth Vader, and is chased by Boba Fett.
For many years, the only confirmed copy of Return of the Ewok lay in Warwick Davis’ own home entertainment center. This copy has been said by Davis to have been frequently shown to only close family, friends, and colleagues. Despite viewings of the film by those close to him, he had never shown the film publicly, and many fans had never even heard of it until 1996, when Davis mentioned it in an interview for the Star Wars Insider magazine. Davis publicly screened the film at the first Star Wars Celebration in 1999, and was also screened at Celebration II in 2002, and at Celebration III in 2005.
The original 16 mm print was said to be lost; according to Davis, his VHS copy is the only one in existence. However, a copy of the print, or even the original print, may actually reside in the Lucasfilm archives. Evidence of this was shown on the 2004 DVD release of the Star Wars Original Trilogy. A clip from the film of Wicket being chased by Boba Fett on the Death Star was included as part of the Easter egg of bloopers from the trilogy. It appeared in a widescreen format in good quality, suggesting that it had been preserved.

But in one of these, achievement_all_v4, the author’s added a surprise. A violent, horrific, hilarious surprise of biblical proportions.

75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking
Zum 75. Geburtstag von DC Comics gibt’s vom Taschen-Verlag ein Monster-Buch als Hardcover mit 664 Seiten in nahezu DIN A3 (29 x 39.5 cm). Ist mit 150 Euro zwar nicht grade billig, aber für Comic-Liebhaber sicherlich mehr als interessant. Ich bin jedenfalls schon schwer am überlegen und werde es mir wohl selber zu Weihnachten gönnen (das Ding kommt eh erst im Herbst).
Im Jahr 1935 veröffentlichte DC Comics Gründer Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson New Fun Nr.1, das erste Comic-Buch mit völlig neuem Originalmaterial – dies in einer Zeit, als Comic-Bücher nicht mehr waren als ein Sammelbecken ausrangierter Zeitungs-Strips. Was anfangs als Wegwerf-Medium für Kinder gegolten hatte, war nun auf bestem Weg, zum Mythos unserer Zeit zu werden – zur Antwort des 20. Jahrhunderts auf Atlas oder Zorro.
Mehr als 40.000 Comic-Bücher später und anlässlich des 75-jährigen Verlagsjubiläums hat TASCHEN nun das umfangreichste Buch über DC Comics im XL-Format geschaffen, an dem sich womöglich sogar Superman verheben könnte. The „Thriller“ Diaries
Vanity Fair hat einen ziemlich interessanten Artikel über die Dreharbeiten zum besten Musikvideo aller Zeit – Michael Jacksons „Thriller“, inklusive einer So-gut-wie-Romanze mit Hauptdarstellerin Ola Ray und Auszügen aus Douglas Kirklands im Herbst erscheinenden Buch „Michael Jackson: The Making of ‘Thriller’: 4 Days/1983“
Michael Jackson, a shy pixie in a red leather jacket and jeans, stands in shadow in the theater’s entryway, talking with actress Ola Ray and director John Landis. The camera crew is making final preparations for a crane shot that will pan down from the marquee as Jackson and Ray, playing a couple on a date, emerge from the theater. Judging from the saucy looks she is sending his way, Ray is clearly besotted by her leading man, who responds by casually throwing an arm around her shoulders.
I am on set covering the shoot for Life magazine. Landis says that he needs a “ticket girl” in the background and orders me to sit in the booth—a prime spot from which to watch the performances.
Just before calling “Action,” Landis fortifies his actors with boisterous encouragement.
“How are you going to be in this shot?” he shouts.
“Wonderful,” Jackson chirps, barely audibly.
Seconds later Jackson steps into his nimbus of light, and it is as if he flips on an internal switch: he smiles, he glows, he mesmerizes. Landis executes the long crane shot, then moves in for close-ups and dialogue. “It’s only a movie,” Jackson reassures his date. “You were scared, weren’t you?”
Landis calls for another take and coaxes: “Make it sexy this time.”
“How?” asks Jackson.
“You know, as if you want to fuck her.”
