Die Global Post hat eine superfaszinierende Galerie voller Fotos von Voodoo-Wrestlling im Kongo. Der Sport ist dort ziemlich populär, sie vermischen ihn aber mit traditionellen Voodoo-Riten. Zombie-Wrestler FTW!

The athletes are getting ready and tonight, in Brazzaville, they will fight opponents from Kinshasa. The audience is mesmerized by the “voodoo” that has been borrowed from ancestral practices that were used in animist rituals — a large part of the intrigue of this sport.
In Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo, wrestling is as popular as it is in the U.S. The main difference: The Congolese like to introduce a mystical, magical “voodoo” element to the pantomime. So in addition to huge men wearing spandex and diving off 10-foot-tall stages, there are also “magical traditions” involving powders, spells and zombie-like transformations of wrestlers.

Music Torture has been officially and publicly confirmed by government officials, human rights organizations, prison guards and interrogators, as well as suspected terrorists who have been detained in military prisons and detention centers. The United Nations and the European Court of Human Rights have banned the use of loud music in interrogations.
The United States Department of Defense and Central Intelligence Agency has made extensive use of sonic interrogation techniques, ie. torture by music, in facilities like Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, Kandahar, Bagram Detention Center and numerous “black sites” scattered around the globe. Such Interrogation techniques, combined with sleep deprivation, hard treatment, water-boarding, air deprivation and other notorious forms of torture, has been legalized under special provision of the United States Department of Justice and the White House under both the Bush and Obama administrations and continues to be used today.
The actual music used in TORTURE CLASSICS has been reported by both prison guards and released inmates (Binyam Mohamed and Donald Vance, tortured with music for 76 days) and includes Top 40 hits, Metal, Hard Rock, Country and Western, TV theme-songs and commercial jingles, as well as original “mash-ups” created by CIA agents, prison administrators, guards and interrogators.

Von Mondo Tees kommt ein wunderschönes, superlimitiertes Poster zu Scott Pilgrim, das sie auf dem Fantasy Filmfest Screening verkauft haben und das mich mal wieder daran erinnert, dass der Deutschlandstart des Films am 6. Januar ist, während er in den Staaten heute anläuft. Ich werde selbstverständlich warten. Fast ein halbes Jahr. Ist doch klar wie Kloßbrühe.

The maggots of this fly are used medicinally to clean wounds. The maggots are sterilised and placed in the wound, where they feed on dead tissue and leave healthy tissue untouched. Their saliva contains anti- bacterial chemicals which maintain sterility in the area. Maggots are used on ulcers and deep wounds away from organs or body cavities, most often being used to treat diabetic ulcers on the feet

Man hat zwei Planeten entdeckt, die die Sonne 24 Sextanis umkreisen. Und da man Planeten nach ihrem Zentralgestirn benennt, heissen sie 24 Sex b und 24 Sex c. Jayne Fonda is starting her engines.
The two worlds circling 24 Sextanis are also in a close embrace, keeping within about 70 million miles (112.6 million kilometers) of each other.
What the CalTech release fails to mention is that the planets have names: 24 Sex b and 24 Sex c.
While each world in our solar system bears an official name based on mythology, the basic rule for naming an exoplanet is to use the star’s name followed by a lower-case letter. The star itself is considered “a,” so the first planet found gets labelled with a “b,” and so on through the alphabet.

Hero Complex hat einen langen Artikel über Gary Kurtz, Regie-Assistent und Produzent der ersten beiden Star Wars-Filme, der nach „Empire“ die Produktion des Franchise wegen kreativer Differenzen mit George Lucas verließ – Lucas wollte mehr Spielzeug verkaufen, Kurtz wollte Filme machen, verabschiedete sich von Star Wars und drehte mit seinem Kumpel Jim Henson „The Dark Crystal“.
Der Artikel verrät viele schöne Details über die Lichtschwert-Saga, etwa, dass Star Wars niemals als Saga angelegt war und dass das „Episode IV“ im ersten Teil eine Referenz an das Serien-Vorbild Flash Gordon war. Außerdem verrät er, welcher Plot und welches Ende eigentlich für „Return of the Jedi“ vorgesehen war. Must Read!
After the release of “Empire” (which was shaped by material left over from that first Lucas treatment), talk turned to a third film and after a decade and a half the partners could no longer find a middle ground.
“We had an outline and George changed everything in it,” Kurtz said. “Instead of bittersweet and poignant he wanted a euphoric ending with everybody happy. The original idea was that they would recover [the kidnapped] Han Solo in the early part of the story and that he would then die in the middle part of the film in a raid on an Imperial base. George then decided he didn’t want any of the principals killed. By that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.”
The discussed ending of the film that Kurtz favored presented the rebel forces in tatters, Leia grappling with her new duties as queen and Luke walking off alone “like Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns,” as Kurtz put it.Crystal Kurtz said that ending would have been a more emotionally nuanced finale to an epic adventure than the forest celebration of the Ewoks that essentially ended the trilogy with a teddy bear luau.
He was especially disdainful of the Lucas idea of a second Death Star, which he felt would be too derivative of the 1977 film. “So we agreed that I should probably leave.”
