Gilpin Familys Diabetes-Piss-Whiskey

The source material is acquired from elderly volunteers, including Gilpin’s own grandmother, Patricia. The urine is purified in the same way as mains water is purified, with the sugar molecules removed and added to the mash stock to accelerate the whisky’s fermentation process. Traditionally, that sugar would be made from the starches in the mash.

Once fermented into a clear alcohol spirit, whisky blends are added to give colour, taste and viscosity, and the product is bottled with the name and age of the contributor.

CCTV Birds

(Vimeo Direktcctv, danke Max!)

‘panoptICONS’ addresses the fact that you are constantly being watched by surveillance cameras in city centres. The surveillance camera seems to have become a real pest that feeds on our privacy. To represent this, camera birds – city birds with cameras instead of heads – were placed throughout the city centre of Utrecht where they feed on our presence. In addition, a camera bird in captivity was displayed to show the feeding process and to make the everyday breach of our privacy more personal and tangible.

How to start a Fire with Ikea-Stuff

(Vimeo Direktikea, via Core77)

Urban Cavemen FTW!

The thought of people burning their furniture during the war so they could keep warm and cook formed the inspiration for FLAMMA. FLAMMA harks back to one of humanity’s basic needs: making fire. I thought it would be interesting to go into IKEA as if I was a primitive human being and make fire using products found there. The project also fits the back-to-basics image of IKEA and the Swedish lifestyle. IKEA does not, however, sell lighters or matches.

There is a Horse in the Apple Store

There is a horse in the Apple Store and no one sees it but me.

I think, “Why?” What is the villain here that blinds all of these people to this situation? Am I nuts for thinking this is exceptional? Does anyone else see this? Did I accidentally drop acid and not realize? I must take a photo. I must verify later, when I’m not potentially tripping balls.

I think, “Would they notice if it were a tiger?” Or a lamb? Or an anaconda? What would it take to shake the haze from around their eyes? A sale sign? A new iPod Touch? Would they notice a new iPod Touch?

Are they just divinely focused? Are they meditating in a retail environment? Are they distracted by something shiny? There is so much shiny in the Apple Store. Is it enough to distract everyone from the little tiny horse that is at the Genius Bar?

Can horses type?

The world’s oldest living things: Rachel Sussman on TED.com

(TED Direktold)

Rachel Sussman shows photographs of the world’s oldest continuously living organisms — from 2,000-year-old brain coral off Tobago’s coast to an “underground forest” in South Africa that has lived since before the dawn of agriculture.

Iraqi Terrorism-Punk’d

(Brightcove Direktterrorism, via Dangerous Minds)

Sick, sick world.

An Iraqi reality television program broadcast during Ramadan has been planting fake bombs in celebrities’ cars, having an Iraqi army checkpoint find them and terrifying the celebrities into thinking that they are headed for maximum security prison.

The show “Put Him in [Camp] Bucca” has drawn numerous protests but has stayed on air throughout the fasting month, broadcasting its “stings” on well-known Iraqi personalities.

Paper-Sculptures made from dead Wood

Randall Rosenthal schnitzt Bücher und anderen Papierkram aus Holz. Insert Irony everywhere. (via MeFi)

Mind-Controlled Analog Synthesizer

(Youtube Direktmind, via Audioporn Central)

It’s music from the Brain! Whoa! Hier ein weiteres Video.

Zombie-Blitzer-Marketingstunt

Fun Facts About the Shoot:

- Caution was our primary concern and Patricia driving through the light could only be done at a time when it was guaranteed cars were not proceeding through opposite traffic.

- Took about 30 minutes to set up, with two teams on safety patrol.

- Brandon is getting chain sawed in the neck on the right side of the picture. Unfortunately the chainsaw’er (Derek) as well as the homeless zombie (Jay) were cropped by the camera frame.

-The zombie behind the dead body is holding a smiley face balloon, and the zombie in front of the dead body is holding a Zombie Blood IV stand.
