Tokyohackerspace hat eine Video-Tour durch den Techie-District Akihabara zusammengestellt. Oben nur einer von vielen Teilen über den Super Potato-Store, einem Mekka für Retrogamer.
Akihabara Station is located in Tokyo’s Chiyoda ward and was opened in November 1890. Akihabara “Field of Autumn Leaves”, also known as Akihabara Electric Town is a major shopping area for electronic, computer, anime, and otaku goods, including new and used items.

Daniel Kanemoto kann’s genau wie ich gar nicht mehr abwarten, bis Frank Darabonts Serienverfilmung von The Walking Dead endlich startet (31. Oktober, nur noch viereinhalb Wochen!) und hat ein Fan-Intro dazu produziert mit Scans aus den Comics. Awesome!
I wondered what the opening titles to this terrifying new television show might look like… so I animated a spec title sequence using artwork ripped from the pages of the comic, originally illustrated by Charlie Adlard and Tony Moore.

Maurizio Cattelan hat einen ausgestreckten Mittelfinger vor der Börse in Mailand aufgestellt. Ein giant Fuckfinger Monument für die Ewigkeit. Hell fucking yeah!
the most recent and much discussed artwork by maurizio cattelan arrived today in milan’s piazza affari, in front of the italian stock exchange building. the controversial monument is made in marble, about 4 meters high and has been allocated on a base that brings the sculpture to a total height of 11 meters. during the making process, the famed italian artist changed the title from ‘omnia munda mundis’ – literally meaning ‘to the pure [men], all things [are] pure’, a latin sentence that has entered a relatively common usage in many countries – to ‘L.O.V. E.’
‘officially it’s name is L.O.V. E. – so it stands for love – but everyone can read between the lines and take away the message they see for themselves.’

Stephen McNeil, assestierender Professor der Chemie an der University of British Columbia Okanagan hat einen Dialog mit seiner dreijährigen Tochter aufgeschrieben, in dem sie vor allem die olle Kinderfrage „Warum?“ stellt und Stephen genau diese Frage immer korrekt beantwortet. Hilarious!
Ich habe keine Ahnung, ob das wirklich so stattgefunden hat, ich weiß aber, dass ich genau so meine Kinder erziehen würde: Question everything, expect answers.

Gone for Tron
Ich fliege morgen früh für (leider nur) vier Tage nach Santa Monica, hier wird also bis Dienstag nicht viel passieren, auch wenn ich ein paar Kleinigkeiten per WordPress Autobot posten werde und den Rechner dabei habe. Weil, ich fliege da hin, um zu arbeiten. Und das sieht so aus:
Auf Einladung von Disney besuche ich ein Screening sowie einen Blogger-Event zu Tron Legacy (ich weiß noch nicht, ob nur einen Teil oder den kompletten Film) und führe ein Gespräch mit dem Vehikel-Designer Daniel Simon, was ich extrem spannend finde, denn der hat nicht nur die Fahrzeuge aus dem neuen Tron-Film entworfen, sondern auch das Buch Cosmic Motors voller futuristischer Concept-Cars gemacht, über das ich schonmal vor zwei Jahren gebloggt hatte. Mich interessiert da vor allem, wieviel freie Hand er da hatte, um seine Idee von Futurismus auf die Tron-Welt zu übertragen. Spannend!
Und in meiner Freizeit werde ich sicher nicht im Hotel abhängen, denn das liegt in Laufweite von fucking Venice Beach und dem Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, das ich mir auf jeden Fall anschauen werde. Hier das aktuelle Wetter in Los Angeles: „Am Mittag werden in Los Angeles Höchsttemperaturen von 31 °C (gefühlt: 31 °C) erwartet. Der Himmel ist unbewölkt, die Sonne scheint beständig. Dabei ist nicht mit Regen zu rechnen.“

The Hulk Hands Theory: Big Bang Theory animated

Nunub hat diese Szene aus Big Bang Theory mit 2500 Bildern aus Wasserfarben animiert und das ganze kommt genau pünktlich zum Start der vierten Staffel, deren erste Folge ich mir vorhin angesehen habe. Wer nicht gespoilert werden will, muss genau jetzt aufhören, zu lesen.
Ich glaube tatsächlich, dass diese Folge die beste BBT-Folge ever ist. Die hat alles! Aquamans Toilet, mathematical Slut-Calculation, Dr. Dr. Sheldon Lee Coopers Girlfriend, Robot-Sex-Accidents und als ob das noch nicht reichen würde: eine IT-Crowd-Referenz, soweit ich mich erinnern kann, die erste Anspielung auf die andere Nerd-Serie in Big Bang Theory. Die Folge ist tatsächlich abartig brillant und, Sakrileg!, ich glaube, BBT hat mit ihr IT-Crowd als meine Lieblings-Nerdserie abgelöst.
Sheldon über einen Roboter-Arm, der grade Essen auspackt: „Today it’s a Chinese Food Retrieval Robot – tomorrow it travels back in Time and trys to kill Sarah Connor.“ – „I don’t think that’s gonna happen, Sheldon!“ – „No one ever does. That’s why it happens.“
Sheldon zu Penny über Sex: „I’m quite aware of the way humans usually reproduce which is messy, unsanitary, and based on living next to you for 3 years involves loud and unnecessary appeals to a deity.“ – „Oh God!“ – „Yes, exactly.“

Bollywood Robot-Movie looks insane!

„Robot“ dürfte der erste Bollywood-Film werden, den ich mir freiwillig ansehen werden, der sieht nämlich komplett wahnsinnig aus. Einen weiteren Trailer zu „Robot“ habe ich grade bei den Filmfreunden gepostet, hier der Plot:

Will this love come in the way of Dr. Vasi’s purpose of creating Chitti?

Das Promovideo zu Steven Johnsons Buch „Where Good Ideas Come From: The Natural History of Innovation“ ist, so nehme ich schwer an, vom selben Zeichner und Animator gedreht, wie die RSA Animated-Clips, die ich hier schon mehrfach hatte.
Das Buch selbst klingt ebenfalls definitiv nach etwas, das ich unbedingt lesen muss:

The Psychology of Chili

Sehr schöner Artikel in der New York Times über Chili: A Perk of Our Evolution: Pleasure in Pain of Chilies. Die Stelle, in der ein Psychologe erklärt, dass Menschen vermutlich vor allem deshalb gerne scharfe Dinge essen, weil sie so ein bisschen masochistisch veranlagt sind, gefällt mir am besten.
Dr. Rozin, who studies other human emotions and likes and dislikes (“I am the father of disgust in psychology,” he says) thinks that we’re in it for the pain. “This is a theory,” he emphasizes. “I don’t know that this is true.”
But he has evidence for what he calls benign masochism. For example, he tested chili eaters by gradually increasing the pain, or, as the pros call it, the pungency, of the food, right up to the point at which the subjects said they just could not go further. When asked after the test what level of heat they liked the best, they chose the highest level they could stand, “just below the level of unbearable pain.” As Delbert McClinton sings (about a different line of research), “It felt so good to hurt so bad.”
Ich weiß noch sehr genau, wie ich in einem Urlaub in Ungarn, damals war ich so 10 oder 11 Jahre alt, in einem Restaurant eine Paprika oder Chilischote oder irgendsowas gegessen hatte, komplett, am Stück, weil die aussah, wie eine Tomate. Mein Gesichtsausdruck dürfte zum Schreien komisch gewesen sein und danach lag ich erstmal zehn Minuten unter einem Wasserhahn. Und jetzt brauche ich erstmal eine Portion Chicken Vindaloo.

Monochroms Zombie-Flashmob in Wien
Neuromancer schreibt mir: „Monochrom ruft zu einem Zombieflashmob anlässlich des Wiener /Filmfestivals auf“. Heute abend findet ein Zombie-Makeup-Workshop statt, danach schlurfen die Untoten durch Wien. Das schöne an diesem Zombiewalk: Man kann auch als Zombie-Food teilnehmen. Dazu muss man sich nur mit einem Gaffatape-Kreuz auf dem Rücken an die Strecke stellen und schon werden einem die Eingeweide aus dem Leib gerissen. Sweet!
