Schöne Idee: Andi hat sein Visual von LastGraph – ein Service, der Daten von LastFM visualisiert und eine Musiggeschmacksgrafik ausspuckt – hochskaliert und auf Holz gezogen… der eigene Musikgeschmack als riesiges Bild für’s Wohnzimmer. Toll!
Der Service bietet verschiedene Optionen, um den fertigen Graphen an eure Bedürfnisse anpassen zu können So könnt ihr den Zeitraum selbst wählen als auch die Farbdarstellung verändern. Speichern kann man den Graphen dann als PDF-File mit dem ganz grossen Vorteil, dass Last Graph eine Vektorgrafik erstellt. Somit lässt sich das gespeicherte Bild bis in die Unendlichkeit, ohne jeglichen Verlust vergrössern und somit auch drucken. Genau das habe ich gemacht. Bei einem stinknormalen Fotodienst hab eich mir das Poster in 3m Breite und rund 80cm Höhe drucken lassen. Um die Wirkung des Bildes besser rauskommen zu lassen, habe ich das Bild auf einen Holzrahmen ziehen lassen, um es so auch etwas plastisch von der Wand wegzuholen.
Siesta Championship
In Spanien läuft grade eine Schlaf-Competition. Ich habe nicht viel für Sport übrig (tatsächlich eher so gar nix), aber hier würde ich mitmachen. Und gewinnen: Ich schlafe in der Körperhaltung von Marty McFly und ich schnarche. Beat this.

Among the most cited publications is one by Boston surgeon A. Price Heusner (1950) containing two case studies. His first case was an elderly man whose penis was “accidently traumatized and amputated,” and who “was intermittently aware of a painless but always erect penile ghost whose appearances were neither provoked nor provokable by sexual phantasies” (Heusner, 1950, p. 129). This man had to look under his clothes to be sure that his penis was, in fact, absent. […]
This new historical study shows that there were actually many reports of phantom penises in the 18th Century medical literature that have previously been overlooked. These include reports from some of the most important doctors of the time, and indeed, some of the most important in history. This included the Scottish surgeon and anatomist John Hunter who reported on what can only be described as phantom wanking.

Benoît B. Mandelbrot, R.I.P.
Benoît Mandelbrot, Entdecker der fraktalen Mandelbrot-Menge, ist am 14. Oktober 2010 in Cambridge an den Folgen von Bauchspeicheldrüsenkrebs im Alter von 85 Jahren gestorben. Martin hat die Doku „Hunting the hidden Dimension“, TED hat einen seiner Vorträge.

Benoît B. Mandelbrot, a maverick mathematician who developed an innovative theory of roughness and applied it to physics, biology, finance and many other fields, died on Thursday in Cambridge, Mass. He was 85.
His death was caused by pancreatic cancer, his wife, Aliette, said. He had lived in Cambridge.
Dr. Mandelbrot coined the term “fractal” to refer to a new class of mathematical shapes whose uneven contours could mimic the irregularities found in nature.

Unserem Obermufti Christian Wulff hat man im Kreml einen Regenwurm zum Salat serviert und nachdem Dmitri Selenin, Gouverneur der Region Twer, den Wurm twitterte, soll der jetzt seinen Job verlieren. Ich habe hier auf NC ja eine lange Tradition mit Insekten-Food und ich sage: Mehr Insekten für Politiker! Eine Tarantel für Merkel oder ‘ne Kakerlake für Guido Westerwelle halte ich für extrem angemessen.
Beim Staatsbesuch des deutschen Bundespräsidenten Christian Wulff in Russland wurde offenbar ein Salat mit Regenwürmern aufgetischt – was einem hochrangigen Politiker nun den Job kosten könnte. Dmitri Selenin, Gouverneur der Region Twer, machte den Wurm-Vorfall in seinem Twitter-Blog öffentlich – und stellte auch gleich ein Foto dazu. Dort war deutlich ein Wurm zu sehen, der über einen Teller kroch. Der Salat mit Regenwürmern sei am Dienstag bei einem Dinner zu Ehren Wulffs im Kreml serviert worden, twitterte Selenin.
Sergej Prichodko, außenpolitischer Berater von Präsident Dmitri Medwedew, forderte daraufhin am Mittwoch den Rauswurf Selenins. Es sollte per Gesetz möglich sein, Gouverneure wegen “idiotischen Verhaltens” zu feuern, sagte er der staatlichen Nachrichtenagentur RIA.

100 Million handpainted Sunflower-Seeds
Der chinesische Künstler Ai Weiwei hat in der Tate Modern in England ungefähr einhundert Millionen Sonnenblumenkerne ausgeschüttet. Sonnenblumenkerne aus Porzelan, die er (und seine Praktikantinnen) händisch angemalt hat. What?!
Sunflower Seeds is made up of millions of small works, each apparently identical, but actually unique. However realistic they may seem, these life-sized sunflower seed husks are in fact intricately hand-crafted in porcelain. Each seed has been individually sculpted and painted by specialists working in small-scale workshops in the Chinese city of Jingdezhen. Far from being industrially produced, they are the effort of hundreds of skilled hands.
Poured into the interior of the Turbine Hall’s vast industrial space, the 100 million seeds form a seemingly infinite landscape. Sunflower Seeds is a sensory and immersive installation, which we can touch, walk on and listen to as the seeds shift under our feet.
