The Walking Dead S01E01 – Frame by Frame
Vor zwei Tagen habe ich auf magische Weise die erste Folge der Serienverfilmung von „The Walking Dead“ gesehen, das Ding ist über P2P zu finden, suchen müsst Ihr allerdings selber. Ich gehe mal davon aus, dass AMC das Teil selbst geleakt hat, um den Buzz vor Halloween mitzunehmen und so noch mehr Aufmerksamkeit auf die Serie zu lenken. Well done.
Ich habe mir die Folge jetzt zwar erst zehnmal angesehen, das reicht aber für ein erstes Review, in dem ich die Folge Szene für Szene mit den Panels des Comics vergleichen werde. Und weil das Ding absolut vollgepackt mit Spoilern sein wird, hier erstmal die ganzen Links zu Walking Dead, die sich in den letzten Tagen angesammelt haben, damit die Spoiler-Paranoiker auch ne Packung Brainz mitnehmen können.
Zunächst hat AMC ein nettes Game am Start, dort kann man sich anmelden und erhält eine eigene URL, Klicks auf diese sind Zombieinfektionen, daher bitte ich hier erstmal um einen saftigen Biss, die Spitzenposition sollten wir hinkriegen, ich bin aber auch mit einem der ersten 15 Plätze zufrieden, denn „In addition, the 15 top point-earners will receive The Walking Dead prize packs. (Contest closes Fri., Nov. 19 at 11:59PM | 10:59C.)“ Und dieses Prize Pack werde ich dann (nachdem ich mir meinen Kram rausgepickt habe natürlich) hier verlosen. Haut rein!
Dann hätten wir bei Hottopic noch die offiziellen Shirts und Merch für die Serie, wobei ich den Shirt-Remix „The Rocking Dead“ auf The Mighty Fine (via Comics Alliance) ja fast noch besser finde. Hier ein Video mit drei alternativen Enden der ersten Folge, macht natürlich erst Sinn, wenn man sie gesehen hat (die spielen nur mit verschiedenen Soundtracks, scheint aber offiziell zu sein… die Romero-Hommage ist nett).

AMC hasn’t officially responded to the leaks thus far, but we doubt that they will be bothered too much by the free publicity. It is often suggested that some of these leaks might even be intentional, that broadcasters use them to hype the show just before the season starts. Although this is often impossible to confirm, it would not be the first time that this has happened.
In 2007, a Warner Bros executive admitted that he helped to leak the pilot of ‘Pushing Daisies’. The exec wanted to make sure the show “got out there,” and said his goal was to “help the cause.” He didn’t upload it himself though, but used his neighbor’s kid to do it instead.
The leak of The Walking Dead premiere, whether intentional or not, is guaranteed to boost the show’s momentum through word of mouth promotion. If anything it will help the show, rather than hurt it.

Zombie Shopping-Guide
Eine große amerikanische Warenhauskette hat zu Halloween eine Zombie-Seite eingerichtet und ein paar Virals dazu gedreht. Ich liebe diese Aktion, denn sie wissen um die Wichtigkeit des Kaufhaus-Fahrstuhls in Dawn of the Dead. Alleine dafür schon: Respekt, da hat sich einer in der Marketing-Abteilung tatsächlich mit George A. Romeros Filmen beschäftigt.

Die Treppen und Skate-Park-Gettos haben sie nun satt! Die Skater von Los Angeles lassen den Free Spirit der späten 1960er Jahre wieder aufleben. Richie Jackson, Patrick Melcher und Gareth Stehr heißen die hippigen, bikenden und bärtigen Mitglieder der Gang. Sie sind Profi-Skater, halten sich aber fern vom Skate-Business und setzen mehr auf Kunst und Schurrbart-Meisterschaften.

Im Juni hatte ich über Real Life Batman gebloggt, der auf dem Hollywood Boulevard festgenommen wurde. Real Life Superman Christopher Dennis hat nämlich die „Town Hall of In-Justice“ ins Leben gerufen und die bereiten nun den Protest vor.
Superman (aka Christopher Dennis from the popular documentary “Confessions of a Superhero”) posted an ad on CL to unite the costumed Superheroes that were ejected from Hollywood Boulevard on Memorial Day. They come together – both hero and villain – at the “Townhall of Injustice” to figure out how to fight city hall. Darth Vader, Superman, Charlie Chaplin all clash at the meeting, and can’t agree on anything. Later Superman attempts another costumed walk on Hollywood Blvd. and is again harassed by the police. Now he’s determined to try to get his fellow costumed characters together to finally protest in front of city hall, and take their case to the press.

Doku über Folter in Afghanistan: Taxi zur Hölle

Die Doku „Taxi zur Hölle“ stammt ursprünglich von der BBC, hieß bei denen „Taxi to the Darkside“ und die hatte ich vor zwei Jahren schonmal hier (ist mittlerweile gelöscht) und sie ist nur einer von zehn Teilen der Doku-Reihe „Why Democracy?“. Am Donnerstag lief sie auf Arte und ist jetzt für ein paar Tage bei denen online zu sehen.
Seit dem Beginn des Kampfs gegen den Terror sind über 100 Häftlinge unter mysteriösen Umständen in US-Gefangenschaft gestorben. Der Dokumentarfilm beschäftigt sich mit dem Fall des afghanischen Taxifahrers Dilawar. Als er eines Nachmittags vom US-Militär festgenommen wurde, nachdem er drei Fahrgäste aufgenommen hatte, fragten sich die Bewohner seines Dorfes, warum gerade er verhaftet und im Gefängnis festgehalten wurde und warum es keinen Prozess gab.
Fünf Tage nach seiner Festnahme starb Dilawar unter nicht geklärten Umständen in seiner Gefängniszelle in Bagram. Sein Tod ereignete sich nur eine Woche nach einem weiteren mysteriösen Todesfall im gleichen Gefängnis. Der Autopsiebericht lässt darauf schließen, dass beide Häftlinge ihren schweren Verletzungen, die ihnen während ihrer Haft durch US-Soldaten zugefügt wurden, erlagen.
Der Dokumentarfilm zeigt, wie die Entscheidungen, die im Zentrum der Macht getroffen wurden, direkt zu Dilawars Tod führten. Und er zeigt, wie der ehemalige US-Verteidigungsminister Donald Rumsfeld gemeinsam mit den Verantwortlichen im Weißen Haus den Kongress überzeugte, Folter gegen Kriegsgefangene zuzustimmen. Filmemacher Alex Gibney berichtet über die tatsächliche Einführung der Folter als Verhörmethode in US-Einrichtungen und legt dabei offen, welche Rolle die Schlüsselfiguren der Bush-Administration in dieser Angelegenheit spielten. Sein Dokumentarfilm ist ein eindringliches Plädoyer für die Einhaltung der Menschenrechte und der Genfer Konvention.

Pixies’ Black Francis-Version of „Der Golem und wie er in die Welt kam“ completely online!
2008 beauftragte das San Francisco International Film Festival den Frontman der Pixies Black Francis mit dem Soundtrack zum Stummfilmklassiker „Der Golem und wie er in die Welt kam“ von 1920, ein Meisterwerk der deutschen expressionistischen Kinematik und (tatsächlich!) einer der Filme, die ich mir damals mit 13 oder 14 aus einer Bibliothek auslieh (zusammen mit „Nosferatu“, soweit ich weiß und: Ja, ich war schon immer seltsam).
Diese Version des Films mit dem Soundtrack von Black Francis veröffentlicht er im November, man kann sie auf seiner Website vorbestellen und das allerbeste: Er hat den Film inklusive Soundtrack offiziell bei Vimeo hochgeladen. w00t!
Falls einem die Awesomeness dieses Dings hier nicht bewusst ist: Das ist so ähnlich, als hätte Kurt Cobain den Soundtrack für Frankenstein geschrieben und das Ding online gestellt. Nur ohne Nirvana und Leichenteilen, dafür aber mit den Pixies und Lehm-Monster. DoubleTrippeW00t!
Often regarded as the height of German expressionism, the silent, black and white film “The Golem” (also known in it’s German form, “Der Golem”) was the last of a series of three films by director Paul Wegener and was released in 1920.
Set in the 16th century, “The Golem: How He Came Into The World” tells the story of the persecution of the Jews of Prague. The towns Rabbi (Rabbi Loew), foreseeing these events, constructs a giant ‘Golem’ out of clay in order to protect his people. Mayhem ensues when the creature rebels and begins to destroy the ghetto. The highly expressionistic imagery seen in the film was captured by legendary cinematographer Karl Freund, who went on to do the classic “Metropolis” in 1927.
Groundbreaking as it was, the film sat ‘silent’ for nearly 88 years until the San Francisco International Film Festival requested Black Francis score the film and perform it live for their annual film festival in April, 2008. Despite the sold out show at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre (with a line stretching around the block) the score has never been performed live since. However, BF recorded the resulting double album in a matter of days in SF at Hyde Street Studios, with help from longtime collaborator/producer Eric Drew Feldman. The album features Black Francis on vocals/guitar, Duane Jarvis on lead guitar (who has since passed away), EDF on keys, Joseph Pope on bass, Jason Carter on drums and Ralph Carney on horns.
In early 2010 the double album, along with the recordings of the live performance in 2008 and the DVD was compiled into a special, limited edition booklet. Only 500 copies were released and sold exclusively through the Black Francis web store.
However, November 16th, 2010 will see the release of The Golem ‘rock album’: a stunning one-hour ‘rock opera’ derived from the original 2-disc album. To accompany the album, the DVD with complete score (both housed in simple & elegant, eco-friendly packaging) will also be available exclusively through the Black Francis web store and Amazon.com.
