Bikini-clad female visitors frolic under the Caribbean sun in an outdoor pool. Marijuana smoke flavors the air. Reggaetón booms from a club filled with grinding couples. Paintings of the Playboy logo adorn the pool hall. Inmates and their guests jostle to place bets at the prison’s raucous cockfighting arena.
“The Venezuelan prisoners here run the show, and that makes life inside a bit easier for us all,” said Fernando Acosta, 58, a Mexican pilot jailed since 2007. His cellmate, a Congolese businessman, had hired him to fly a Gulfstream jet that prosecutors accuse them of planning to use for smuggling two tons of cocaine to West Africa.
It is not uncommon for armed inmates to exercise a certain degree of autonomy in Venezuela’s penitentiaries. Prisoners with BlackBerries and laptops have arranged drug deals, abductions and murders from their cells, the police say, a legacy of decades of overcrowding, corruption and insufficient guards.
But San Antonio prison, renowned on Margarita Island as a relatively tranquil place where even visitors can go for sinful weekend partying, is in a class of its own.

Im Moment macht eine alte Meldung der Weekly World News die Runde: Marilyn Monroe was bitten by a Vampire – and Hoover had her killed to prevent her from biting JFK.
The Ho Whisperer cured my Depression, 2-Headed Man for President, Mom gives Birth to Neanderthal Baby, Zombie Army helped Rebel Leader conquer Haiti. „Tumblr sucks big Time“ steht leider nicht drin. Wahrscheinlich, weil’s stimmt.
Screen siren Marilyn Monroe was a blood-slurping vampire who owed her magnetic sexual appeal to the supernatural, a new blockbuster book claims. And even more chilling, the cinema icon’s death was not an accidental drug overdose, but a slaying carried out by an FBI strike force to prevent her from biting her lover – President John F. Kennedy.
“FBI director J. Edgar Hoover personally ordered her execution,” claims researcher Tom Ransing, author of the upcoming book Blood Feud: Hoover’s Secret War on the Undead.
The risk that a president could be vampirized and thus become a vampire himself was simply not one he was prepared to take. JFK’s brother, then-Attorney General Robert Kennedy was, of course, also intimate with Marilyn – putting the entire Justice Department in jeopardy as well.
Thus, on Aug. 5 1962, five government agents entered Marilyn’s Brentwood mansion and, while three used a crucifix to pin her down, the others punctured her thigh with a hypodermic needle full of holy water – ending the bizarre twilight existence of America’s most famous movie star.

You may remember the incredibly touching story of Sacha Goldberger and his depressed 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother, Frederika. To cheer her up, Sacha suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations. Grandma reluctantly agreed, but once they got rolling, she couldn’t stop smiling. […] Now, over half-a-million pageviews later, Sacha and his grandmother are back with a whole new series, which they just sent exclusively to us. With all this fame, it looks like Super Mamika has a new suitor – Meet Mr. Papika! […]
Since the first Super Mamika post what kind of response have you gotten?
It’s been crazy! We’ve been in so many papers from all around the world. I wanted everyone to get to know my grandma because I wanted her to be immortal, but I never imagined that she would become so popular!
How has the Super Mamika series changed your grandmother’s life? How has it changed your life?
We still do the same things together, but now, she’s sometimes busy doing an interview or TV show. My life is a little more difficult because sometimes she acts like she is a star (often when she asks me for some bread).
All 13 minutes of the completed fake Doctor Who 80s-style anime. Drawn, animated and partially voiced by myself. Some bits are good, some bits are poor, but on the whole it turned out okay, I think. Enjoy! This is old school Who, so fans of the new reboot show may be confused by the fact that the Doctor is doing martial arts and Cybermen say “excellent.” Watch the classics and you’ll understand. You’ll also become almost instantly more handsome by watching classic Who.
PS – for those complaining about total lack of story or narrative in this clip, I did always state from the start that it was only going to be an extended trailer with no plot. Think of it as highlights from a 24 epsiode series if there was one.
„And Bob Dylan goes into one Stall [Toilet] and I’m in the middle Stall and Tom Petty is in the other Stall and I see… We’re peeing at the same time, it’s like peeing in stereo! Not too many people get to pee with Bob and Tom.“
Nestled in a hidden location in midtown Manhattan, the Counjuring Arts Research Center is ground zero for illusionists and historians alike. The Center provides a range of services, publishes scholarly journals, and teaches hospital-bound kids magic through its Hocus Pocus program. It is perhaps best known as home to one of the largest known collections of historic books, letters, and other media, which the center makes available online.
Bill Kalush, the center’s founder and director, explains how he built the collection piece-by-piece and shows us some of its highlights.
Schöner Trailer zu Michael Rapaports (True Romance, Copland, Mighty Aphrodite) „Beats Rhymes & Life – The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest“, mit denen sogar ich was anfangen kann. Hier die Infos aus dem Presskit:
BEATS, RHYMES & LIFE: THE TRAVELS OF A TRIBE CALLED QUEST is a documentary film directed by Michael Rapaport about one of the most influential and groundbreaking musical groups in hip-hop history. Having released five gold and platinum selling albums within eight years, A Tribe Called Quest has been one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history, and regarded as iconic pioneers of hip hop. The band’s sudden break-up in 1998 shocked the industry and saddened the scores of fans, whose appetite for the group’s innovative musical stylings never seems to
A hard-core fan himself, Rapaport sets out on tour with A Tribe Called Quest in 2008, when they reunited to perform sold-out concerts across the country, almost ten years after the release of their last album, The Love Movement. As he travels with the band members (Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White), Rapaport captures the story of how tenuous their relationship has become; how their personal differences and unresolved conflicts continue to be a threat to their creative cohesion. When mounting tensions erupt backstage during a show in San Francisco, we get a behind-the-scenes look at their journey and contributions as a band and what currently is at stake for these long-time friends and collaborators.
Rarely heard stories from New York’s legendary DJ Red Alert, Native Tongues members like Monie Love, the Jungle Brothers, Busta Rhymes, and De La Soul bring an intimacy to the days when young artists discovered the freedom of artistic expression, while rejecting the confines of gangster rap and negative stereotypes. Chronicles of songs like “Scenario” and “Check the Rhime” paint a vivid picture of growing up in Queens, and how the band’s unique approach to hip hop helped transform and influence the genre for years to come.
A New York native, Rapaport’s lifelong love for hip hop helps achieve intimate, all-access interviews and cinéma vérité-style filmmaking, fostering a conversation for A Tribe Called Quest to determine if there is a possibility to mend the wounds from over the years. In addition to chronicling the past, present and uncertain future of the band, the film includes interviews from the Beastie Boys, Kanye West, Pharrell, Mos Def, Santigold, Monie Love, Pete Rock, Large Professor, De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers and Common, all of whom attribute some combination of love, respect, and inspiration drawn from the legacy of A Tribe Called Quest.
Cop Hard ist eine Webserie von Charles C. Custer, Regisseur von Van Diemens Land, einem Film über einen australischen Kannibalen im 19. Jahrhundert.
