Tilt: 3D-DOM-Viewer in your Browser

Tilt is a fun new Firefox extension focused on creating a 3D visualization of a webpage, drawn using WebGL. Since the DOM is essentially a tree-like representation of a document, this tool layers each node based on the nesting in the tree, creating stacks of elements, each having a corresponding depth and being textured according to the webpage rendering.
Various information besides the actual contents will be displayed on request, regarding each node’s type, class, id, and other attributes if available. The rendering will be dynamic, in-browser, using WebGL and GLSL shaders.
Tilt also offers the possibility of inspecting the html, css, and attributes of each node in the DOM tree, refreshes its contents if the webpage has been modified with other tools such as Firebug, and exporting the webpage to a 3D mesh or a screenshot.

Flaming Lips sell a 24hr-Song in a Human Skull, stream it Tonight

(Youtube Direktflames, danke Bernd!)
Pitchfork: What sort of new odd products do you have in the works?
Wayne Coyne: The guy we know who has the gummy factory is so insane. We have an edible, psychedelic frog coming out. It’s a clear frog that you can pour psychedelic dust on and then lick it– it’s going to be a pretty good one. And we’re going to make a skull that has an actual vaginal fucking thing stuck to the back of it– you have to reach into it to get the USB.Pitchfork: You can sell that at a sex shop.
WC: Well, I don’t want it to be too tied up with dicks and dildos and stuff but, I mean, yeah! Everything is possible. […]Pitchfork: What’s the deal with this 24-hour song inside of a human skull?
WC: It’s a pretty exotic art object. This guy in Oklahoma City has a place called Skulls Unlimited where you can actually buy human skulls– there are real human heads in there with the skin getting taken off of them. It’s absurd. So we’re putting the hard drive inside these human skulls that we’re going to sell on Halloween. Only 13 of them are being made and they’re $5,000 a piece.

The Willard Asylum Suitcases

In 1995, the New York State Museum was moving items out of the Willard Psychiatric Center in Willard, NY which was being closed by the State Office of Mental Health. It would eventually become a state-run drug rehabilitation center. Craig Williams and his staff became aware of an attic full of suitcases in the pathology lab building. The cases were put into storage when their owners were admitted to Willard sometime between 1910 and the 1960s. And since the facility was set up to help people with chronic mental illness, these folks never left. An exhibit of a small selection of the cases was produced by the Museum and was on display in Albany in 2003. It was very moving to read the stories of these people, and to see objects from their lives before they became residents of Willard.
I have been given the incredible opportunity to photograph these cases and their contents. To me, they open a small window into the lives of some of the people who lived at the facility. I have settled on the idea of shooting the suitcases as they have been preserved by the museum, since part of my goal with this project is to show the care that was taken in archiving these materials.

Slavoj Žižek about Occupy Wallstreet, London Riots, Arab Spring and everything else…
(Aljazeera Direktzizek, via MeFi)
Must Watch für jeden.
Slovenian-born philosopher Slavoj Zizek, whose critical examination of both capitalism and socialism has made him an internationally recognised intellectual, speaks to Al Jazeera’s Tom Ackerman about the momentous changes taking place in the global financial and political system.
In his distinct and colourful manner, he analyses the Arab Spring, the eurozone crisis, the “Occupy Wall Street” movement and the rise of China. Concerned about the future of the existing western democratic capitalism Zizek believes that the current “system has lost its self-evidence, its automatic legitimacy, and now the field is open.”
“I think today the world is asking for a real alternative. Would you like to live in a world where the only alternative is either anglo-saxon neoliberalism or Chinese-Singaporean capitalism with Asian values?
I claim if we do nothing we will gradually approach a kind of a new type of authoritarian society. Here I see the world historical importance of what is happening today in China. Until now there was one good argument for capitalism: sooner or later it brought a demand for democracy…
What I’m afraid of is with this capitalism with Asian values, we get a capitalism much more efficient and dynamic than our western capitalism. But I don’t share the hope of my liberal friends – give them ten years, [and there will be] another Tiananmen Square demonstration – no, the marriage between capitalism and democracy is over.” Slavoj Zizek
Shortfilm: Morning of the Tarantulas
(Youtube Direkttarantulas, via Dangerous Minds)
The Return of Kino.to?
The new owners of the site have informed TorrentFreak that within a week the Kino.to domain will be operating in tandem with Kinoo.to (note the double ‘o’), the URL of the new site that is already in operation. Because the police took control of Kino.to’s DNS during the raids, the original domain still currently points to a notice saying the site has been seized, but it won’t stay that way for long. A domain transfer to the new owner is currently underway and should be complete in a matter of days. […]
However, according to Alexander Baumgärtner from Kinoo GmbH iG, the German-based company that acquired Kino.to, the site’s rebirth will also signal a new approach to its operations. “Our goal is to provide a serious and legitimate streaming project,” Baumgärtner told TorrentFreak, adding that a limited company in the Cologne area has been established and new offices acquired. Offshore companies, it seems, are off the agenda.
“We understand that Kino.to has a very questionable reputation due to the events of the last years, particularly in June 2011, but we believe that the basic framework of Kino.to is by far the best platform in the market currently and we are convinced that € 1.5 million is a perfectly justifiable price, since many users have the domain ‘Kino.to’ in their bookmarks.”

Bestätigt nochmal meinen Eindruck, sehr dubios alles. (Danke Sebastian!)

Anonymous vs Mexican Drug Cartell
Hier der Link zur Originalmeldung auf Spanisch, hier die Übersetzung auf Reddit (kompletter Thread), hier ein weiterer Artikel dazu: Online hackers threaten to expose cartel’s secrets: Group called Anonymous demands release of one of their own who was kidnapped.
An international group of online hackers is warning a Mexican drug cartel to release one of its members, kidnapped from a street protest, or it will publish the identities and addresses of the syndicate’s associates, from corrupt police to taxi drivers, as well as reveal the syndicates’ businesses.
The vow is a bizarre cyber twist to Mexico’s ongoing drug war, as a group that has no guns is squaring off against the Zetas, a cartel blamed for thousands of deaths as well as introducing beheadings and other frightening brutality.
“You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him,” says a masked man in a video posted online on behalf of the group, Anonymous. “We cannot defend ourselves with a weapon … but we can do this with their cars, homes, bars, brothels and everything else in their possession,” says the man, who is wearing a suit and tie. “It won’t be difficult; we all know who they are and where they are located,” says the man, who underlines the group’s international ties by speaking Spanish with the accent of a Spaniard while using Mexican slang.
He also implies that the group will expose mainstream journalists who are somehow in cahoots with the Zetas by writing negative articles about the military, the country’s biggest fist in the drug war.
“We demand his release,” says the Anonymous spokesman, who is wearing a mask like the one worn by the shadowy revolutionary character in the movie V for Vendetta, which came out in 2006. “If anything happens to him, you sons of (expletive) will always remember this upcoming November 5.”
Richard Harrow Halloween-Costume

Doku-Trailer: Art as a Weapon
Schönes Projekt von Jeffrey Durkin, der grade die Doku „Art as a Weapon“ über Politik, Burma und Streetart über Kickstarter finanziert.
Art as a weapon will look at the power of creativity for social change, by using the fight for Democracy in Burma as a case study. Giving the audience a peek into the creative movement that is happening on the Thai/Burma boarder by young Burmese refugees- A Buddhist monk poet, a Burmese punk band and a political street artist will show us- that out of great struggle comes great creativity.
Art as a Weapon is a feature documentary that will also investigate the dialogue between the people of Burma’s fight for democracy and the western artists who respond by supporting their struggle through art. This will be a “connections film” which looks at the overlap between the big forces that shape humanity- Art, Politics and Religion in both the eastern and western worlds. By combining beautiful cinematography, clean graphic design, Buddhist philosophy, emotional interviews and Art that carries a message, the project will illustrate the power of art in a modern-day revolution. Part art film, part political film, the goal is to continue spreading the word by using art as a weapon for peace in Burma.

The shapeshifting Donkey Prostitute
Von Lowering the Bar:
“Your worship, I only came to know that I was being intimate with a donkey when I got arrested,” a 28-year-old Zimbabwe man told a magistrate on Monday. The man, who had been arrested for being intimate with a donkey, admitted the conduct in question but claimed that the donkey had not been a donkey when he met her at a nightclub last Saturday night, but rather a prostitute.
“I don’t know how she then became a donkey,” he told the court.
