Heavy Metal Cöloring Book
Christopher „Piwi“ Tauber hat mir gestern sein „Metal Malbuch für die Heavy Family“ geschickt, ein Album im klassischen Panini-Sammeldings-Format mit Bildern zum Ausmalen für Headbanger. Die Zeichnungen orientieren sich am klassischen Kindermalbuch, die Motive sind naive Bilder von Metalfamilien in den Covern bekannter Metal-Alben. Sehr, sehr tolle Idee, perfektes Ding zu Weihnachten. Preview zum Malbuch gibt’s in diesem Flickr-Set, ich hab’ mal ein paar der Motive und die dazugehörigen Cover zusammengestellt:

Dem Alphabet nach hat Christopher Tauber die schönsten, bekanntesten und auch einige peinliche Metalcover aufpoliert und den Bands einen neuen Namen gegeben. Mama, Papa, Bruder, Schwester, alle haben in diesem Familienalbum ihren Platz, sogar Opa, der -wie passend- Ozzy Osbournes „No rest for the Wicked“ nachempfunden ist.
Kiss werden hier zum Karneval, Anthrax posieren wie die Tanten, Slayer wird zu Quatsch und Metallicas „Master of Puppets“- Friedhof wird als Reihenhaussiedlung kurzerhand zum Zuhause.
Sicherlich hat sich der Zeichner auch hier und da ein paar fiese Seitenhiebe erlaubt, wenn er Ted Nugent kurzerhand zum Alptraum und die Scorpions zu Rotz uminterpretiert. Aber eigentlich geht es doch um was anderes: Egal ob Black, Death, Speed, Trash oder True Metal: Die Fans haben sich längst fortgepflanzt und der Elternschreck von einst eint inzwischen Generationenübergreifend ganze Familien. Welche andere Musik kann das schon von sich behaupten?
Mal döch mal Metal ist somit eine kleine Verneigung vor der einzigen Musikrichtung, für die man nie zu alt oder zu jung ist.

Die Darling Pet Munkees haben eine EP nach den Anzeigen in alten Comics aufgenommen. Die komplette Platte wird 2012 veröffentlicht, bislang haben sie sechs von sieben Tracks für lau online gestellt: „Sea-Monkeys, X-Ray Specs, and a necklace full of soil from Dracula’s castle are among the many bizarre items that were sold in comic-book ads of yore. Fear of the Flesh-Eating Killer-Banana
In Mozambique geht die Angst vor mit Bakterien verseuchten Bananen um, die Nekrotisierende Fasziitis auslösen, einer Krankheit, die die Haut absterben lässt. Die Bananenverkäufe sind im Keller, Grund ist ein eMail-Hoax.
MAPUTO — Rumours of flesh-eating bananas in Mozambique have sparked a plummet in the sale of the fruit, prompting the health minister Friday to reassure people of its safety.
“From the work conducted by the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and Trade and Industry, it was concluded that there is no record of entry of any infected banana in the country,” according to a joint statement.
An email and text message hoax warning people against eating bananas for the next three weeks went viral as people feared being infected by necrotising fasciitis, or skin-eating disease.
The bacteria can destroy skin, fat and tissue covering the muscles.
The messages also advised people to see a doctor if they developed a fever after eating the killer fruit.

Streetartist Above hat mir letzte Woche sein Buch Passport geschickt, eine Retrospektive über sieben Jahre eines Künstlers auf Weltreise. Das Buch steigt ein mit seiner USA Tour 2004, seit dem ist der Bub’ quasi nonstop auf Reisen und malt die Welt voll, mittlerweile in über 90 Städten in 60 Ländern. Seine Arbeiten habt ihr hier oder woanders garantiert schon gesehen. Oben das Cover und ein Video zum Dings, nach dem Klick noch ein paar Fotos, die ich eben auf die Schnelle geknippst habe. Berlin-Graffiti-Movie Unlike U complete online
Just schreibt mir: „Die Macher des Graffiti-Films UNLIKE U, [über den ich vor ein paar Monaten gebloggt hatte], haben den Film aufgrund einer Unterlassungsklage der BVG gegen den Film komplett online gestellt, damit auch jeder ihn sehen kann, bevor die weitere Verbreitung offiziell eventuell eingestellt werden muss.“
Die Unterlassungsklage kam zustande, weil die Filmaufnahmen der (leider) illegalen Malaktionen auf dem Gelände der BVG nicht angemeldet waren: „Die offizielle Begründung laute, die Filmemacher hätten die Aufnahmen auf dem Gelände des Unternehmens vorher nicht angemeldet. Dies ist bei illegalen Sprühaktionen aber nicht gerade üblich, und die Filmemacher hätten ohnehin für viele Szenen die Dreharbeiten selbst dann nicht anmelden können, wenn sie gewollt hätten. Das Videomaterial hatten die Filmemacher von den Sprayern zugeschickt bekommen.“
UNLIKE U taucht ein, in eine Szene, die für Außenstehende schlichtweg nicht nachvoll-ziehbar ist. Es ist die Welt der Trainwriter, derjenigen Graffitikünstler also, die sich auf das Bemalen von S-und U-Bahnen spezialisiert haben. Extrem verdeckt. Extrem kriminell. Extrem verboten.
UNLIKE U beleuchtet vier Generationen von Sprühern in Berlin, wovon die Ältesten der Hardcore-Artisten mittlerweile schon 40 Jahre alt sind und die Jüngsten um die siebzehn. Alle Protagonisten aber haben eines gemeinsam. Jeder von ihnen hat in seinem Leben schon unzählige Züge bemalt und einige von ihnen sogar um die 1000. Mit intensiven Interviews versuchen die Filmemacher den Beweggründen der Sprüher auf die Spur zu kommen und herauszuarbeiten, was genau der Kick an einer Sache ist, die in der Öffentlichkeit keine Anerkennung bekommen kann.

For this video i recorded each instrument separately with a decent stereo mic and i also used a mixer to adjust the audio levels. i would like to point out that absolutely no sampling or audio effects were used.

Architectural Sculpture construced by flying Robots
Raffaello D’Andrea hat zusammen mit den Architekten Fabio Gramazio und Matthias Kohler ein Installation auf die Beine gestellt, in der vier Quadrotor Roboter ein 1:100-Modell eines 600 Meter hohen Modells eines „vertical Village“ aufbauen. Das Ding ist so „nur“ sechs Meter hoch und besteht „nur“ aus Styropor-Klötzen, aber es geht hier vor allem um die autonome Koordination der Bots und natürlich auch darum, ob das Ding zusammenfällt oder nicht. Die einzige Unterstützung durch Menschen bekommen die Bots dadurch, dass frische Bausteine am richtigen Ort platziert werden.

Honest Publishing hat ein superinteressantes, zweiteiliges Interview mit Alan Moore über Publishung, Occupy Wallstreet und Frank Miller und auch wenn ich eBook-Gutfinder und Kindle-Besitzer bin, finde ich folgende Sätze ziemlich großartig:
I’m not against electronic books per se. I don’t think they’re the downfall of civilisation or the end of literacy. I just tend to have quite a lot of faith in the book itself as the publishing world equivalent of a shark. Sharks have not evolved in millions and millions of years simply because they haven’t had to. They were pretty much perfect to start with. And I feel the same way about books.
Hier die Stelle über Occupy Wallstreet und Frank Miller:
As far as I can see, the Occupy movement is just ordinary people reclaiming rights which should always have been theirs. I can’t think of any reason why as a population we should be expected to stand by and see a gross reduction in the living standards of ourselves and our kids, possibly for generations, when the people who have got us into this have been rewarded for it; they’ve certainly not been punished in any way because they’re too big to fail. I think that the Occupy movement is, in one sense, the public saying that they should be the ones to decide who’s too big to fail. It’s a completely justified howl of moral outrage and it seems to be handled in a very intelligent, non-violent way, which is probably another reason why Frank Miller would be less than pleased with it. I’m sure if it had been a bunch of young, sociopathic vigilantes with Batman make-up on their faces, he’d be more in favour of it. We would definitely have to agree to differ on that one.

Das Blog Star Trek Prop hat letztes Jahr die Entstehung des Textes aus dem Intro der Orinigal Star Trek-Serie gepostet: The History of Star Trek: The Original Series – Creating the famous Opening Narration (Runterscrollen, via Letters of Note, die das Ding in Auszügen haben, ohne zu Scrollen.)
On August 1st of 1966, just weeks before NBC’s season premiere of the original Star Trek series, two of the programme’s producers — Bob Justman and John Black — contacted Gene Roddenberry and asked him to quickly write the show’s now-famous opening monologue, to be recorded by William Shatner. For the next week or so the three men exchanged drafts by memo, a couple of which can be seen below; Roddenberry came up with the final draft on August 10th, an hour before it was recorded.

Cyriaks Animationen feiere ich hier auf NC jetzt auch schon seit 5 Jahren, oben eine der ersten die ich hier hatte und grade habe ich das erste Interview auf Fast Company mit dem Mann gelesen. Leider befragen sie ihn nur oberflächlich zu seinen Wurzeln, genau da hätte ich gerne mehr drüber gewusst. Aber was willste von einem Magazin mit „Company“ im Titel auch schon erwarten.

Terry Gilliam has certainly played a large part, but I would also mention artists like Jan Svankmajer, Raoul Servais, and Zbig Rybczynski. The animations that most inspired me growing up were obscure artistic films that were usually shown late at night.
