Ex-Newsroom: Financial Times Deutschland

Draw Homer, the Simpsons Drawing Club and the Bartkira Covers

1) The Simpsons Drawing Club: „A place where a group of close friends in the UK have come together to draw simpsons characters.“

2) Draw Homer: „[…] is an art project of world domination. We want the very best artists from all over the globe to draw Homer. Our ultimate goal is to have Matt Groening himself drawing one.“

Nano-Nonobjective-Oriented Ontographs and Qubit-Built Quilts

The Printed Internet: Your Drug Dealer on Etsy

Mein Lieblingstumblr The Printed Internet von Daniel Kolitz postet jetzt auch zusammengeklebte Website-Remixe auf Animal New York. Bisher dort veröffentlicht: YOUR KLOUT SCORE IS YOUR OBJECTIVE WORTH AS A HUMAN BEING und der verdrogte Etsy-Remix oben: YOUR DRUG DEALER ON ETSY. Newspaper Downfall-Photography

The extreme downsizing of the Philadelphia Inquirer is a stand-in for what we know has been happening to newspapers across the country for the last decade. Since its bankruptcy filing in 2009 it has moved from the 526,000-square-foot Tower of Truth to a single floor in an office building.

Photographer Will Steacy has been documenting these financially difficult years for the paper, giving a unique perspective on the national downsizing and closures that are easily dismissed as just numbers.

“I wanted to create a portrait that showed the reality,” says Steacy, whose father worked at the Inquirer for 29 years.

3D-printed Flights

 Vimeo Direktflight

Through custom software built in Max/MSP, the user is able to select specific flights that matter to them, such as a honey moon, a summer vacation through Europe or all of their flights from a given year. To ease this process, the user can connect to Tripit or Foursquare and import their past flight data automatically.

Each loci comes with a card highlighting on a map all the airports flown to. The sculpture can be placed on this card to help visualize their travels. Additional information is displayed on the card, such as the title chosen by the user, the total distance travelled, the number of airports visited, and the number of flights taken.

The software generates a file suitable for 3D printing, so that the user can either print it themselves or use a service like Shapeways that prints for them.

3D-Printed Insect-Food

Susana Soares druckt für ihre Installation Insects Au Gratin Kekse aus zermahlenen Insekten. Yummy!

Edible insects are dried and grinded into powder. The insect flour is mixed with icing butter, cream cheese or water, gelling agent and flavouring to form the right consistency to go through the nozzle. The food aesthetics are designed previously, 3D printed and ready to eat or cooked.

Projection Mapping on Miniature Tokyo

 Youtube Direkttokyo, via Core77

Unfassbares Projection Mapping auf einem Modell von Tokyo im Maßstab 1:1000 anlässlich des 10jährigen Bestehens der Roppongi Hills. Whoa! WHOA! Ich bin begeistert, sehr.

“TOKYO CITY SYMPHONY” is an interactive website, in which users can experience playing with 3D projection mapping on a 1:1000 miniature model of the city of Tokyo. The handcrafted model is an exact replica of the cityscape of Tokyo in every detail.

Three visual motifs are projected onto the city in sync with music: “FUTURE CITY,” conjuring futuristic images; “ROCK CITY” that playfully transforms Roppongi Hills into colorful musical instruments and monsters; and “EDO CITY,” or “Traditional Tokyo,” which portrays beautiful Japanese images. Users could play a complex, yet exquisitely beautiful harmony on the city by pressing the keys on the computer keyboard. Each key plays a different beat along with various visual motifs, creating over one hundred different sound and visual combinations. Each user is assigned a symphony score of eight seconds, of which could be shared via Facebook, twitter, and Google+. The numerous symphony scores submitted by the users are put together online to create an infinite symphony.

Steampunk AT-AT-Toy

Nice!

Each one of those rivets was cut out with a punch and applied with tweezers, and we both lost track of the number of coats of spray paint he used to get that gorgeous patina before washing it down and creating the stains and drips. He made the narwhal horn on the front as well. It’s hard to see but the legs and feet are covered in seaweed and barnacles – I can just imagine it tramping up and down the coastline, or standing in a harbour next to a crumbling pier.

Ashley Woods Robot-Toys shopped into Real Life

(via Creepy Robots)
