Ich bin ja Mashups ein bisschen leid, die bestehen leider fast nur noch aus beknackten Remixen mit Trashpop der übelsten Sorte (diese komplett üble Best-of-the-Year-in-Pop-Serie etwa) oder noch beknackterem Dubstep-Schrott a la Skrillex, Musik für Ungefickte halt (Ich hatte es vorhin schon getwittert: ‘Der ganze kommerzielle Dubstep-Kram ist Mucke für Leute, die ewig nicht gevögelt haben. „ICH HAB SON DRUUUCK WOAWOA ICH HAB SON DRUUUCK“’ und „Das neue Skrillex-Video ist hierzulande gesperrt. Da hat die GEMA immerhin einmal was richtig gemacht!“). Und Okarola gibt mir da echt ein bisschen den Glauben an das Genre zurück. Danke dafür, ganz ganz großes Kino!

It’s hard to imagine now, but in 1982 when I started working on porn movies, we shot real 35mm film on big movie cameras. Home video cassette players had barely been invented. There were no DVD’s, no home computers, no Internet. People went out to downtown movie theaters and watched sex movies on the silver screen. Our shoots lasted anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks, with a crew of at least twenty people. We all put a lot of care into the script, the acting, the lighting, sound, editing – all the aspects of real movie-making. It was the Golden Age of Porn, and I was thrilled to be a part of it.

American Ecstasy is my memoir of those roller coaster days. I shot the pictures in this book while working as a stills person on 300 hardcore porn shoots in New York over the course of twelve years. My images reveal the contradictions inherent in the business – great beauty, tinged with sadness, punctuated by surreal silliness. I loved ironic moments when, in the middle of an orgy, they’d have to cut to put more film in the camera. Everybody would yawn and look at their watch, hoping against hope there would be something decent for lunch.

For people who might remember some of the stars of those days, the book includes Ron Jeremy, Vanessa del Rio, Nina Hartley, Sharon Mitchell, Sharon Kane, Siobhan Hunter, Jeanna Fine, Damian Cashmere, Tasha Voux, and many more. X-Posting von den Filmfreunden: The Onion, man muss sie einfach lieben: Meet The Man Inside The Nicolas Cage Costume: „Star Fix has an exclusive interview with the man who has enchanted audiences for the last 30 years playing the delightfully wacky, oversized puppet of Nicolas Cage.“

Joe Sacco ist Comiczeichner und gilt ein bisschen als Erfinder der Kriegsreportage-Comics, am bekanntesten sind seine Bücher „Palestine“ und „Footnotes in Gaza“, letzteres wird jetzt als Animationsfilm adaptiert. Freut mich immer sehr, wenn ernste Comics umgesetzt werden und nicht nur Superheldenunfug über alberne Typen in Spandexhosen. Eine meiner Lieblings-Comicverfilmungen ist „Persepolis“ und auch wenn „Waltz with Bashir“ strenggenommen nicht auf einem Comic basiert, die thematische Nähe zu dem Stoff hier sind unübersehbar.

Die Produktion läuft grade erst an, bis wir den Film zu sehen bekommen, wird es noch ‘ne ganze Weile dauern, von Animationsfilme.ch: „Der kanadische Regisseur Denis Villeneuve, der aktuell mit seinem Film Incendies für einen Oscar® in der Kategorie “Bester fremdsprachiger Film” nominiert ist, wird die Graphic Novel Footnotes in Gaza von Joe Sacco als Animationsfilm umsetzen. Die Pariser Produktionsfirma “Tu Vas Voir” hat sich kurz nach der ersten Publikation (2009) um die Verfilmungsrechte bemüht. Produzent Amiel Tenenbaum habe bereits sehr früh Villeneuve als möglichen Regisseur im Kopf gehabt und nach einem Meeting zwischen dem Kanadier und Sacco, sei die Zusammenarbeit beschlossen gewesen. Footnotes in Gaza wird ein abendfüllender Animationsfilm, der sich von Saccos Schwarzweissbildern inspirieren lassen wird. Footnotes erzählt die Geschichte um das Leben in der Stadt Rafah im Gazastreifen, in der wärend der Suez-Krise 1956 mehr als einhundert palästinensische Flüchtlinge in einem Massaker der israelischen Armee umkamen. Dieses Kapitel wird in der Geschichtsschreibung nicht erwähnt und gilt als „Fussnote“. Joe Sacco hat Überlebende des Massakers und Zeitzeugen befragt, woraus der Comic entstand.

Das Buch erzählt seine Geschichte über einen Zeitraum von mehr als 50 Jahren und ist nicht nur eine Wiedergabe der Ereignisse, sondern auch Alltagsdarstellung des Lebens im Gazastreifen damals. Vom Klappentext:

Wo wir grade bei Sachen waren, die ich vor drölf Jahren gepostet hatte: Mike Horn hatte vor drölf Jahren einen Viral-Hit mit seinem Death Star over San Francisco (und mit dem Nachfolger Death Star vs Enterprise), jetzt hat er vor ein paar Tagen mit Death Star over Copenhagen nachgelegt. Ist nur ein Commercial für ‘nen Spielzeugladen, eigentlich so aufregend wie vier Jahre alte Socken und Star Wars ist 2012 ja ohnehin toter als tot, es sei aber der Vollständigkeit halber einfach erwähnt. Damit die Lichtschwertsammlung komplett bleibt. Und die anderen beiden Dinger gibt’s nach dem Klick.

Bill Hinzman, der „Cemetery Zombie“ aus George Romeros „Night of the living Dead“ und damit der erste Untote im modernen Zombiefilm, starb am Sonntag im Alter von 75 Jahren an seinem Krebsleiden. Bye bye Mr. Hinzman, and thanks for all the flesh.

Hinzman was working on the movie as an assistant cameraman when Romero spotted him and knew he’d found his zombie muse. “We’d like to tell the story that it was a hard audition session,” said Russ Steiner, who co-produced the film and played Johnny. “But Bill was there and old enough and thin enough and he had an old suit.” Hinzman (whose name is spelled “Heinzman” in the credits of Living Dead) remained in Romero’s orbit for years, working in a variety of functions on There’s Always Vanilla, Hungry Wives, and The Crazies, as well as the equally chilling 1974 TV sports documentary O. J. Simpson: Juice On The Loose.

He’d largely drifted out of the business by the time Romero’s post-Living Dead career really began in earnest with Martin and Dawn Of The Dead, but by the late 1980s, his cult status was secure, and he found himself lured back to appear in a number of low-budget horror pictures where his presence served as an instant in-joke. (For example: In 2006’s Shadow: Dead Riot—starring Night Of The Living Dead remake lead—Hinzman’s character is billed as “Romero the Zombie”.)

Ich hab’ grade den nächsten Schwung alter Illus aus Japan bei Flickr hochgeladen und diesmal hat mir Robert, der derzeit in Shikoku lebt und arbeitet, mit Übersetzungen der Scans und Infos aus dem Blog geholfen. Die Illustrationen stammen aus einer 1970er Ausgabe des Shonen Sunday-Magazins: „Bei der Reihe handelt es sich um eine Sammlung von ‘Uchu Kaiju Bemu’, was quasi ‘BEM-Monster/-Ungeheuer aus dem All’ bedeutet, wobei BEM wohl für Bug-Eyed-Monster steht.

Zum Bild oben: „Erste Seite der Ausgabe dieses Heftes, aus dem alle Scan stammen. Redaktion von Mori (Nachname) Masaru (vermutlich). Illustration hier von dem gleichen Yamamoto Kaguya (unsicher) wie weiter oben. Jambe Davdar hat seine Indiana Jones-Doku fertig- und online gestellt. Clips daraus waren im letzten Jahr ständig im Netz zu sehen, hier das komplette Teil mit haufwenweise Behind-The-Scenes-Shots und Melting Faces.

John White war 1979 elf Jahre alt und hat ein Alien-Comic gezeichnet ohne den Film gesehen zu haben. Ich halte das übrigens für ‘nen Fake. Die Handschrift ist für das Alter ein wenig zu weit entwickelt und die Zeichnungen sind mir ne Spur zu detailiert. Aber ich kann mich auch täuschen, schön ist die Idee allerdings auch so.

This movie adaptation made at the time that ALIEN hit theatres around the world but long before the underage artist had actually seen the film itself. That wouldn’t happen for 3 or 4 more years.

It’s brought to you by the maker of the popular Star Wars age 9 webcomic. Much of the artwork here is better – so not as silly – but it was done with nothing but an Alan Dean Foster novelisation with its few colour glossy photos as a visual reference, and a satire by Cracked Magazine that came out much later.

Andy Baio hat grade auf Wired seine jährliche Piraterie-Analyse der Oscar-Kandidaten gepostet.

For the last 10 years, I’ve tracked the online distribution of Oscar-nominated films, going back to 2003. Using a number of sources, I’ve compiled a massive spreadsheet, now updated to include 310 films.

This year, for the first time, I’m calling it: The MPAA is winning the battle to stop screener leaks.

A record 37 films were nominated this year, and the studios sent out screeners for all but four of them. But, so far, only eight of those 33 screeners have leaked online, a record low that continues the downward trend from last year. They may be winning the battle, but they’ve lost the war.

While screeners declined in popularity, 34 of the nominated films (92 percent) were leaked online by nomination day, with 25 of them available as high-quality DVD or Blu-ray rips. Only three films — Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, My Week with Marilyn and W.E. — haven’t leaked online in any form (yet!).

If the goal of blocking leaks is to keep the films off the internet, then the MPAA still has a long way to go.

John O’Brien, Kameramann bei ATV, die in den siebzigern die ersten Staffeln der Muppet Show produzierten, hat kurz vor Weihnachten auf Youtube zwei Behind The Scenes-Clips hochgeladen. Das hier ist pures Jim Henson-Muppet-Internet-Gold, nicht weniger. Im ersten Clip macht die Crew ein bisschen Unsinn am letzten Aufzeichnungstag der ersten Staffel:

A behind the scenes glimpse of the Muppet Show on it’s last day of recording at the Elstree Television Studios in 1980 on which I was privileged to work as a Cameraman.

Featured is Jim Henson and Frank Oz who were the main inspiration and creative forces behind the show. Narrated by Peter Harris, one of the two directors on the show … it mostly reveals crew and cast having a very silly day as everyone said their final farewells. Richard Holloway (now Executive Producer on “The X Factor”) had been the Senior Floor Manager for the duration and it was probably inevitable that he became the victim of the flan flingers … he took it in great spirits.

This last day in Studio D was the culmination of 5 years work, fun and laughter on what was arguably the most successful Children’s Programme in the world at the time, having been sold to some 110 countries … it was the end of an era for many and the Muppets have gone on to become truly iconic.

Die Installation Bear 71 wird grade auf dem Sundance Filmfestival gezeigt und ist irgendwo zwischen Naturdoku, Datenvisualisierung und interaktivem Storytelling. Bear 71 erzählt die Geschichte einer Grizzly-Bärin, die über 11 Jahre nonstop überwacht wurde, die Filmemacher bekamen Zugang zu den Daten und rekonstruierten daraus das Leben der Bärin. Auf der Website zu Bear 71 kann man ein bisschen rumexperimentieren, hier der Trailer zum Dings und ein Snip aus der Pressemitteilung:

Bear 71 is the true story of a female grizzly bear monitored by wildlife conservation officers from 2001 – 2009.

She lived her life under near constant surveillance and was continually stressed by interactions with the human world. She was tracked and logged as data, indicative of the way that we have come to see the world around us – with Tron or Matrix9like filters – constantly monitoring, qualifying and quantifying, instead of experiencing and interacting.

Leanne Allison gained access to 1 million photos gathered covertly in the wilderness by motion triggered cameras over 11 years, unbeknownst to the animals and humans that provided the rich data captured in the photos on this project.

Bear 71’s story is consistently played out in places all over the globe where humans and wildlife intersect – from cougars in Nova Scotia to Bears in suburban Vancouver to Bear culls in New Jersey. It highlights how our growing dependence on technology divorces us from nature, even while allowing us to keep closer tabs on it. It raises questions about how we view nature, how we view ourselves in relation to technology and nature, and the nature and validity of surveillance both in the wild, and within human society.

Ich liebe Popeye, ich liebe Wilco und ich esse echt gerne Spinat! Whoa! Well, Blow Me Down! King Features and dBpm Records are combining creative forces for a series of firsts with the release of a new cartoon and animated music video for Wilco’s “Dawned On Me” featuring Popeye the Sailor Man and the Chicago band.

Wilco’s sweet, whimsical love song comes from their latest album, the 2012 Grammy-nominated The Whole Love. The video is directed by Darren Romanelli, the fashion and pop culture innovator who conceived the collaboration between Wilco and King’s flagship character.

This collaboration between American icons is one of the first music videos Wilco has released since 1999 and it presents the band to the masses in a fresh, new way: as animated images, side-by-side with Popeye and his friends Olive Oyl, Swee’ Pea, Wimpy and Bluto.

Secret Cinema brought to life Carol Reed’s ‘The Third Man’ at the Farmiloe Building in the secret streets and alleyways of Clerkenwell, London, through to the backstreets of Kabul, Afghanistan.

Over 19,000 of you travelled to Vienna becoming part of Harry Lime’s Rogue racket, Major Calloway’s investigation patrols and Crabbin’s British Cultural Office. A photographer from the Vienna Times documented the happenings here and a filmmaker from Future Shorts London Productions made this film.

Im Sommer hatte ich über die iPad-App „The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore“ gebloggt, sowas wie ein interaktiver Kurzfilm. Und der wurde heute für einen Oscar nominiert, woraufhin die Moonbot Studios das Ding grade eben komplett bei Vimeo hochgeladen haben. Der Film ist absolut fantastisch, jeden seiner Preise hat er hochverdient gewonnen und ich drücke alle Daumen, dass da jetzt noch ein Oscar dazukommt. Unbedingt ansehen, jede der 15 Minuten davon sind pure Magie.

Schicker SciFi-Kurzfilm von Aaron Sims, der als Concept Designer unter anderem an War of the Worlds, Green Lantern, Planet of the Apes und The Thing mitarbeitete. Das Ding leidet (so wie viele Kurzfilme von Designern oder Effektleuten) leider an einer eher dünnen Story, die nicht so richtig zu Ende erzählt wird, dafür sieht das aber alles richtig gut aus. Immerhin.

Sims is a creature/conceptual designs with a prolific resume in some of the biggest summer blockbuster including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Transformers and The Thing. Its produced through his own company and his visual effects outfit, Archetype VFX and it stars Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, CSI:NY) and David Anders (Heros, 24).

RL7 is an eight foot tall combat robot. Only problem is he’s starting to remember once being human. Now on the run from an all powerful corporation that will stop at nothing to destroy him RL7 desperately searches for the truth behind his mysterious memories before it’s too late.

Finally, the crowd-sourced project has been stitched together and put online for your streaming pleasure. The “Director’s Cut” is a feature-length film that contains hand-picked scenes from the entire StarWarsUncut.com collection.

In 2009, thousands of Internet users were asked to remake “Star Wars: A New Hope” into a fan film, 15 seconds at a time. Contributors were allowed to recreate scenes from Star Wars however they wanted. Within just a few months SWU grew into a wild success. The creativity that poured into the project was unimaginable.

SWU has been featured in documentaries, news features and conferences around the world for its unique appeal. In 2010 we won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media.
