m00t on Rick Santorums Website

Keiner weiß, wie’s passieren konnte, aber ein Bild von m00t, dem Gründe von 4Chan („The black heart of the Internet“), hat’s auf die Website von Rick Santorum geschafft. Aus einer Mail von Christopher Poole (m00t): „Maybe a user created a profile using my Wikipedia photo as the profile pic, or a designer/intern someone working on the site thought it would be funny. Or I look like a wholesome Tea Partier. Who knows.“

When you navigate to Patriot Voices, a pop up box appears with a bunch of different people’s faces alongside Mr. Santorum’s, ostensibly representing patriots, which by his definition likely refers to fellow sweater vest wearers. One of those pictures, sandwiched in between two photos of Mr. Santorum, is the visage of Chris Poole–a.k.a. Moot, the founder of notorious message board 4chan. The photo is the same one used on Mr. Poole’s Wikipedia page.

Why is Rick Santorum Using a Picture of 4Chan Founder Moot on His ‘Patriots’ Website?

Also: „As of Thursday, November 8th, 2012, Nate Silver is probably a witch.

His unusually accurate predictions are, thus far, explained by his use of validated statistical methods. His disregard of momentum, gut feelings, and the interpretations of people paid to promote certain viewpoints is not the result of supernatural assistance.

While we on the Is Nate Silver a Witch editorial board are strict rationalists, Mr Silver’s performance has been uncanny enough to raise small but significant doubts as to whether his methodology is entirely of this world. We are following the situation closely.

Troll Culture – A Comprehensive Guide

Plato described Diogenes as “a Socrates gone mad.”

Diogenes was also known for masturbating in public, eating at the marketplace, which was considered rude at the time, urinating on people who insulted him, pointing at people with his middle finger and defecating at the theatre.

This would qualify him for an excellent troll, if he didn’t do it to teach society about values. It is really hard to say, if his personal amusement played a role in his doings. On the other hand, I believe it to be quite possible, that he had a lot of fun when he was urinating on critics. His goals were inner freedom as the key to happiness. If his doings were to pursue that ideal, that implicates he really did it for teh lulz (for his enjoyment).

This would qualify him as one of the first documented trolls.

Comicbook gets pirated on 4chan, Author comes into thread, everything is full of love

Eat this, Gene Simmons.

After being alerted to a 4chan thread that posted the bulk of he and writer Jeff Parker’s “Under Ground” limited series from Image Comics to read for free, Lieber stepped into the site with a level head that generally won over a number of users before posting the same material for free at the Underground website.

Rather than berating the thread for more or less pirating he and Parker’s creator-owned work in a public forum, Lieber instead answered questions about his career and pointed out that those who liked what they read could buy the book in print. The response was almost resoundingly positive with a lot of readers expressing interest in paying for the comic or simply being excited to have access to a creator willing to share insights about the industry.

4chan – what a nice and sweet place to raise a family!

Hier die Story dazu von Reddit: „Good Morning America is doing a story on Jessi Slaughter and /b/ today [edit: Das 11jährige Mädchen, das von /b/ gemobbt wurde/wird], they are making the site look Christian/wholesome for the flood of people that may go to the site after the show. All porn and threads with cussing are getting deleted by the mods.“

It looks like 4chan has found its first major target of 2010. In a message sent to what is presumably a huge amount of undisclosed receipients, 4chan is announcing that this coming Wednesday, January 6, is going to be a very special event: YouTube Porn Day.

The move comes in response to one account, Lukeywes1234, being suspended by YouTube. Apparently this was just a regular YouTube user who caught the eye of 4chan and they proceeded mass follow him and make tribute videos to him

AT&T blockt 4Chan, die Bremer Grünen finden’s wahrscheinlich super

Firing one of the first shots in the net neutrality war, AT&T has blocked 4chan’s /b/ image board. AT&T subscribers are unable to connect to /b/ and /r9k/ (both of which are hosted on img.4chan.org). However, subscribers can get on any of the so-called «worksafe» boards that 4chan.org offers.

The problem seems to be present only for wired connections only (AT&T Mobility customers are not affected). The problem is not caused by an DNS-error, as traceroutes indicates that AT&T is dropping img.4chan.org requests in the AT&T network.

There has been alot of customers on our network who were complaining about ACK scan reports coming from 207.126.64.181. We had no choice but to block that single IP until the attacks let up. It was a decision I made with the gentleman that owns the colo facility currently hosts 4chan. There was no other way around it. I’m sure AT&T is probably blocking it for the same reason. 4chan has been under attack for over 3 weeks, the attacks filling up an entire GigE. If you want to blame anyone, blame the script kiddies who pull this kind of stunt.

I visited New York last fall to do a surprise live Rickroll as part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I thought it would be a really good and funny thing to be a part of. I called up a few of my friends in the States, and they said, “You’ve got to do it!” So I did! Thanks, moot.

4chan hackt die Time-Liste der 100 wichtigsten Persönlichkeiten

4chan

Not only has the poll been swamped to promote Moot (the pseudonym of the creator of 4chan, an image board and the birthplace for many internet memes) as the most influential of people, the poll crashers have manipulated the order of all the other nominees so that the first letter of each line spells out ‘marble cake, also the game’ (marble cake is not really a kind of cake btw). This is pretty phenomenal, precision hacking. Precision hacking of an extremely high profile poll run by a top notch media company.

“Holy [bleep], it’s moot!” calls out a 20-something. He picks his way over to Poole’s corner, and by the time he gets there, 12 other excited onlookers have joined him. Instead of addressing Poole, one fan looks to Poole’s friend Christina Xu. “Are we allowed to talk to him?” the fan asks.

Xu turns to Poole and rolls her eyes. “Are they allowed to talk to you?”

Poole stands awkwardly, looking like someone who is used to fame, but isn’t quite sure why he has it. The increasing crowd angles for pictures, holding out cameras to capture themselves next to Poole, who shoves his hands in his pockets and stares sheepishly into the flashes.

The Master Of Memes

moot is the founder of an online community called 4chan, located at 4chan.org. You may not realize it, but 4chan has probably touched your life. Possibly inappropriately. 4chan is unusual in several ways. It’s extremely large and active; it gets 8.5 million page views a day and 3.3 million visitors a month. Since moot started it in 2003, those visitors have put up 145 million posts. By some metrics, 4chan is the fourth largest bulletin board on the Net.
