Brian Woods The Massive as a Motion-Comic
Dark Horse haben grade den ersten Teil der Motioncomic-Umsetzung von Brian Woods (DMZ, Northlanders) neuer Serie „The Massive“ online gestellt, die Animation zeigt so ungefähr die erste Hälfte der #0, die die Vorgeschichte zur Öko-Saga erzählt. Die Story des Comics handelt von Umwelt-Aktivisten in einer post-apokalyptischen Welt. Das Comic hat bislang noch lange nicht den Wumms von DMZ, aber das muss ja auch nicht zwingend und die Serie ist erst bei aktuell Nummer 5, da geht also noch einiges. Ich werde die Motioncomics hier immer posten, sobald sie rauskommen, den YT-Channel von Dark Horse bzw. Geeks&Sundry/Felicia Day (die haben irgendeinen Deal am laufen) hab’ ich schon lange im Feedreader.

Vor vier Jahren animierte Guillaume Reymond Tetris in ‘nem Kino, vor zwei Jahren machte er dasselbe mit Pacman. Jetzt hat er jede Menge Leute in ein Hochhaus gesperrt und daraus die tolle Stopmotion-Animation oben gebastelt.

The 11 floors tower of the HESAV (Health High School Vaud) has been animated as a rudimentary screen whose pixels are, in fact, all the windows and shutters that students, staff and friends shake for hours.

A Liars Autobiography: Graham Chapman Biopic-Animation – Trailer
X-Posting von den Filmfreunden: Ungefähr vor einem Jahr bloggte ich die Meldung eines kommenden Animations-Episodenfilms über das Leben von Graham Chapman – „the dead Python“. Bis auf Eric Idle sind alle Pythons in Sprechrollen zu hören, die Stimme von Graham Chapman kommt von einem Tonband, das er kurz vor seinem Tod aufgenommen hatte. Ob mir der Trailer gefällt, weiß ich noch nicht – wird nach hinten raus etwas besser. Insgesamt finde ich die Animation aber recht schwach, muss man aber im Kontext bewerten. Der Film läuft Ende des Jahres in einem limitierten Kinostart in den USA, danach auf dem PayTV-Sender Epix. Wann und ob „A Liars Autobiography“ auch in Deutschland zu sehen sein wird, weiß ich nicht, aber man hat ja alternative Möglichkeiten.
Graham Chapman, probably best remembered as ‘the dead one from Monty Python’, writes and stars in the animated movie of his own life story, A LIAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Although Chapman selfishly dropped dead in 1989, he had taken the trouble to record himself reading his book, A Liar’s Autobiography — and those recordings have now ingeniously been used to provide Chapman’s voice for the 3D animated feature of the same name. Fellow Pythons John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam also turn up, playing themselves and other characters, along with a few surprise guests.
Not a documentary, not a Monty Python film, A LIAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY is Chapman’s own take on his bizarre life and his search for self-knowledge, bringing Chapman back to life in an ingenious tour de force of animation, told through 17 different animation styles from 14 different animators.
Incredible, yes. Surreal, certainly. True? Who knows? At his memorial service, John Cleese called Chapman “a freeloading bastard”. Now, as the film re-unites Chapman with Cleese, Jones, Palin, and Gilliam for the first time in 23 years, he is set to earn a new title — the most prolific corpse since Elvis.

Between his broken VHS tapes and hacked Nintendo games, Max Capacity conducts a staticky stream of pop culture imagery from the past with the verve of the digital now. Anything is fair game — from 80s TV commercials to FBI warnings, the Santa Cruz native even makes TV static entirely his own.
But how to define his work: video art? Digital art? Net art? Sure, he makes animated GIFs but calling him a “.GIF artist” ignores how much work he does with multiple camcorders, VCRs, and home-brewed glitch tech. Each image represents a huge amount of labor — digital and physical — and how to represent that in a categorical description presents a unique challenge.
