Apple-1 signed by The Woz for sale

 Youtube Direktwoz, via The Verge

A German auctioneer will put a working Apple-1 computer on the block later this month, and expects the handmade computer to fetch between $261,000 and $392,000 at Thursday’s exchange rate. The record price for an Apple-1 was $640,000, paid last year in an auction also run by Breker, of Cologne, Germany.

On May 25, Breker will try to sell a different Apple-1, one of only six in working condition, the auctioneer said. The Apple-1, a circuit board hand-built by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, was made in 1976, and sold at the time for $666.66. About 200 units were produced, but by an estimate last year by British auction house Sotheby’s, only 50 survive.

Apple Store Afghanistan

Schönes Posting auf Quartz über den ersten Apple Store in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Mohammed Nasery, the store’s sales manager, told Quartz he sells the 16GB iPhone 5 for $700, about $50 more than its price in America. The merchandise comes from Dubai, where the 16GB iPhone 5 retails for 2599 dirhams (about $710). With discounts for buying in bulk, he estimates that margins vary from $10 to $50 across products. “It’s very trendy to own an iPhone or an iPad. These young Afghans work around foreigners who have iPods and Macs and iPads, and they want them too,” Rahimi told students from USC Annenberg in an interview last year. “If you see a woman using an iPhone, even if she’s wearing the hijab you know she’s got money and that she wants people to notice her. You don’t really look twice if she’s on a Nokia, you know?”

iSteve:

Steve Jobs-Manga is here!

Japanese manga publishing house Kodansha released the first images of “Steve Jobs,” which were subsequently posted to Yahoo Japan’s online bookstore, as the title’s first chapter hit store shelves today in the April issue of the company’s Kiss magazine, reports blog Crunchyroll. Interestingly, Kiss is a monthly Josei manga serial, or a publication targeting the young adult to adult female demographic.

Reportedly recognized as the official adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography, the comic is being penned by noted manga artist and winner of the Manga Taishō and a Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, Mari Yamazaki.

Early iPhone Prototype from 2005

Massive!

In-house version of the iPhone from early 2005. The images to Ars through a former Apple employee who worked on various Apple hardware projects in the early 2000s and was thus exposed to some of the earliest versions of the iPhone. (He declined to be named out of concern for retribution from Apple.)

As seen in the gallery above, this early prototype has a number of ports that we’re used to seeing more commonly on computers than on mobile devices, including USB ports, an Ethernet port, and even a serial port. Apple never intended for all of these to make it into the final product, of course—our source said that because this was a development prototype, ports like Ethernet and serial were included simply to make working on the device easier.

Versions of the Past

Schöne Retrotech-Variante dieser „Looking Into The Past“-Bilder, die seit ein paar Jahren in allen möglichen Variationen immer wieder durchs Netz gehen. Hier guckt sich Max Wohlleber olle Mac-Versionen an.

My Project “Versions Of The Past”, based on “looking into the past” pictures, leads the viewer through the digital past. Instead of black and white architecture and old street lamps, there are the monochromatic beginnings of the Mac OS.

Steve Jobs Biography-Manga

Mari Yamazaki, of Thermae Romae fame – will be tackling a manga edition of the biography of “that” entrepreneur – Steve Jobs, deceased founder of Apple.

The manga will be an adaptation of the Japanese edition of “Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography,” an official biography based on interviews with Jobs and published in 2011 with his blessing. The manga will begin serialisation in the May edition of Kodansha’s “Kiss” magazine, according to their official Twitter account.

Dieter Rams/Braun Design-Collection for sale

The BRAUN design collection consists of approx. 1000 different pieces, mainly from the years between 1955 and 1985. It is probably one of the most complete private BRAUN design collections of this period.

The collection shows how Dieter Rams und the BRAUN Design Department, starting from 1955, managed to give technology a clear shape (form follows function), wrapping it in modern materials. The domestic appliances in particular reveal the impact of “BRAUN Design” on other designers and their product engineering. The collection is either suited for a private collector or a design or technical museum. The innovative aspect becomes evident especially by comparing it with the technical products of other manufacturers of the same time period. Dieter Rams can be regarded as one of the best and most influential designers of the 20th century.

Warning: Apple Maps could be life-threatening

Using Apple’s new maps system could be potentially life-threatening, police in Mildura, Australia, have warned, after a number of people trying to find the town of 30,000 people have become hopelessly lost in scorching temperatures.

One man was stranded for 24 hours last week in temperatures of up to 46 degrees centigrade, and at least three more have had to be rescued after following the directions given on Apple’s new maps, which locate Mildura far from its actual position.

iTunes Russia has a Porno-Bug

„In Soviet Russia, Porn blocks Apple.“

iPhones.ru speculated it might relate to an issue with temporary xxx placeholder links (machine translation): […]

most likely, the problem arises because of links: the people responsible for iTunes, put the “temporary” link type xx.xx.xx. That’s just such a site exists, and, as we have seen today, has nothing to do with the ideals of the company.Waiting for the fix.
