Schönes Commercial für BBC Knowledge von Sean Pecknold, alles handgemacht bis auf die geklonte Maus.
All of the spot is in-camera on a multi-plane table in sequence. The characters are either paper or clay. All of the backgrounds are painted. Even the natural elements, like clouds and stars, were a layer of animated paint shot in-camera. Because of the way the transitions worked from one thing to the next, we had to be careful because there wasn’t any time to start over, really. The only shot that isn’t fully in camera would be the mouse shot that we mirrored for the clone effect.

Nettes Commercial für die BBC (mit einem ganz fiesen Audiofehler bei Minute 0:39) und ihre sogenannte „Internet Season“. Die sind zwar grade dabei, ihren Internet-Etat erheblich zu kürzen (und ihren Spartenmusikkanal BBC 6 Music abzuwürgen), aber was tut man nicht alles für den Weltfrieden. Und warum die Elderly from the Internet aussehen müssen wie Nonnen muss mir dann auch mal jemand erklären.

Ad schreibt mir: „I’m working on BBC Life (their new flagship nature docs following Planet Earth, etc) and we’ve been able to choose some incredible HD clips from each episode as weekly teasers (details below). My personal favorite is the Pebble Toad, but have been jostling with colleagues who also love the Jesus Christ lizard which is beautiful in HD :)
The 10 “Life” episodes between now and Christmas will include studies of Reptiles/Amphibians, Mammals, Fish, Birds, Insects, Creatures of the Deep, Plants and Primates.“
Ich finde es ja ganz witzig, dass mir die BBC beziehungsweise deren Agentur Preview-Clips zu einer Doku schicken, die hierzulande auf der Website zur Doku nicht anschaubar sind, offensichtlich wegen Copyright-Bullshits. Aber dafür kann ja die Doku nix. Oben ein Clip mit einem Frosch, der an fleischfressenden Pflanzen vorbeilatscht und sich in einen Flummi verwandelt, wenn die Tarantel angreift.

BBC Blast: Kreative im Fernsehen
Von der BBC lernen heisst, siegen lernen. Ich dachte mir eben in jeder Sekunde, als ich mir die Sachen von BBCs neuestem Projekt „Blast“ angeschaut habe: Verdammt, sind die gut. Und die sind nicht nur gut, sondern launchen auch gleich mit ihrem Projekt einen eigenen Youtube-Channel, wo man schon jetzt tonnenweise Interviews mit Streetartists (oben das Interview mit D*Face), Tänzern, Fotografen oder Mode-Designern anschauen kann. Wooster Collective hat die Interviews mit den Streetartists gesammelt, im Youtube-Channel gibt es aber noch tonnenweise andere Leckerbissen. Und dann schaut man sich an, was das deutsche Fernsehen so „kann“.

Doku: Bryony makes a Zombie Movie

Über Bryonys Zombiefilm-Projekt habe ich bereits im Juli geschrieben:
Youtube-Userin Paperlilies aka Bryony ist ein Youtube-Sternchen aus London und dreht einen Zombie-Film, der komplett aus beigesteuertem Material aus ihrer Community besteht. Und was hierzulande (noch) unvorstellbar ist: die BBC hat das Thema aufgegriffen und eine eigene Website eingerichtet, auf der kurze Doku-Webisodes gepostet werden. Am Ende des Projekts läuft dann die komplette Doku auf BBC3.
Genau diese Dokumentation ist jetzt ausgestrahlt worden, ist auch online verfügbar, nur leider nicht für Leute außerhalb von UK. Jedenfalls fast, die Doku haben sie nämlich auch bei Youtube hochgeladen.

„The Wrong Door“ ist eine neue Comedy-Show der BBC, die in einem Paralleluniversum angelegt ist, in dem Special Effects aus Filmen im real Life angekommen sind. Und deshalb transformiert der geprügelte PC in einen zurückkloppenden Roboter und der neue Freund ist ein Tyrannosaurus Rex, der gleich mal die beste Freundin verspeist. Das hier ist die komplette Playlist mit allen Trailern, meine Favoriten sind natürlich der Transformers-PC und der Dinosaurier.

Douglas Adams-Audiobook wird Hitchhiker-Prequel
Der zweite Teil der Hörspiele zu Douglas Adams „Dirk Gentlys hollistische Detektei“ soll Ideen von Adams beinhalten, die er für ein drittes Gently-Buch skizziert hatte. Und das neue Hörspiel soll ein Crossover der beiden Universen werden, die praktisch ein ein „Hitchhiker“-Prequel münden.
“There is definitely Hitchhiker’s/crossover,” explains Dirk Gently adapter-in-chief and director Dirk Maggs. “In this second series there is one particular idea from Douglas’s notes for the third [unfinished] Dirk Gently book which at one point he thought might be a Hitchhiker’s book. It’s a very simple idea that puts one of the Hitchhiker’s characters in the same universe as Dirk Gently in a way that I thought had enormous potential. In this series we find that the characters in both universes are inhabiting the same world, and I think where we’re going with this is something that actually resolves later on in Hitchhiker’s. It’s turning into a bit of a prequel!”
Davon ausgehend, dass ich die Gently-Bücher zwar okay, aber natürlich nicht so super wie den Anhalter fand, und dass ich als Fanboy bei Prequels aus Lucas’schen Gründen ein gebranntes Kind bin, sage ich einfach mal: abwarten.

BBC2′s The Net, first episode from April 1994
here’s the first episode of The Net, a documentary series that ran for four seasons from 1994 to 1998. Despite the name, this first episode has very little to do with the Internet. Pop, What Is It Good For!
Absolut großartig! Paul Morley, Gründungsmitglied von Art Of Noise, in einem BBC-Special über die Liebe zum und die Bedeutung des Pop, die er anhand von sechs beispielhaften Songs zu ergründen versucht, trifft sich dazu mit Songwritern und Künstlern und den Sugababes.
Pop! What Is It Good For? ist Gott sei Dank mal nicht in diesem fürchterlichen Sprechende-Köpfe-Stil gedreht sondern verfolgt Morley recht locker auf seiner Reise so dass auch schon mal ein Mikro oder die Stimme des Regisseurs aus dem Off auftauchen. Morley betrachtet dabei nicht nur die Entstehung eines Songs sondern auch z.B. das zugehörige Musikvideo, wohl wissend dass es eben nicht “nur um die Musik” geht. (Uliuli)
Dreimal grandiose Doku zur britischen Musikgeschichte nach dem Klick. Hier gibt’s alle an- und ausgespielten und genannten Songs und Bands und Künstler und das sind eine ganze Menge. Großartig!

BBC’s Psychedelic Science show now on Google Video
The programme looks at the history of psychedelic drug research when it was still easily possible, focusing on Osmond and Hoffer’s early work on using LSD in treating addiction and facilitating psychotherapy.
It’s also got loads of great historical footage from the early research but also talks to the new generation of researchers looking at compounds such as ayahuasca and ibogaine, who are now the senior figures in this growing area.
