Hi, I’m Troy McClure, you may remember me from this Supercut.
Von Metafilter: „this collection, while impressive, was NOT all-inclusive – for example, whenever Troy rattled off three titles, the videomaker only picked two – check this reference page for many others, including ‘Good-Time Slim, Uncle Doobie, and the Great ‘Frisco Freak-Out’, ‘The Contrabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel’ and, of course, ‘Stop the Planet of the Apes: I Want To Get Off!’“

Spongebob is huge in Egypt

Der heisse Scheiß in Ägypten derzeit: Spongebob Schwammkopf. Nein, doch, wirklich: Da unten kriegt man von Kopftüchern bis Unnerbuxen alles, inklusive einer Ansage im Fernsehen „to all the violent girls who do karate and to SpongeBob’s feminine eyelashes“:
The fictional marine sponge, historically found on kids’ cartoon channel Nickelodeon, is now the ubiquitous face of Egyptian tat – printed on everything from hijabs to boxer shorts, complete with spelling mistakes. (In Egypt, where western Bs are often confused with Ps, SpongeBob sometimes becomes a variant of SpongePop.) Name something cheap and tacky, and chances are that someone in Egypt can sell you a Spongified version.
His appearances have become so frequent that a blog – SpongeBob on the Nile – now documents his Egyptian adventures. Vice magazine was even forced to ponder: “Is SpongeBob SquarePants the New Che Guevara?“.
The explosion started about a year ago, SpongeBob on the Nile’s co-founder reckons. “I remember coming back in June 2012,” says Elisabeth Jaquette, a longtime Cairo resident who had returned from a year in America, “and walking through Tahrir Square, where you used to see T-shirts that said ‘Egypt’ and ‘Revolution’. But that June, half the T-shirts were just SpongeBob.”

Draw Homer, the Simpsons Drawing Club and the Bartkira Covers

1) The Simpsons Drawing Club: „A place where a group of close friends in the UK have come together to draw simpsons characters.“
2) Draw Homer: „[…] is an art project of world domination. We want the very best artists from all over the globe to draw Homer. Our ultimate goal is to have Matt Groening himself drawing one.“
Pinky and The Brain-School in Nigeria

The Brain-Schule, inklusive Pinky & The Brain-Hymne:
We are the children of Pinky and the Brain, Children growing in wisdom, age and grace.
We lift our voices to thank God; the giver of life.
Shout it out, far and wide,
Pinky and the Brain first among equal,
Pinky and the Brain, the flag bearer, for others to follow.

Croissant de Triomphe: First Mickey Mouse-Cartoon in 20 Years
With the slapstick feel of classic Mickey Mouse, the series of cartoon shorts presents Mickey in a broad range of humorous situations that showcase his pluck and rascality, along with his long-beloved charm and good heartedness. Each cartoon short finds Mickey in a different contemporary setting including Santa Monica, New York, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Venice, and the Alps, facing a silly situation, a quick complication, and an escalation of physical and visual gags. The stories also feature genuine heartfelt and heroic moments as Mickey explores and experiences life with his comical partners: Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. […]
Produced in 2D animation, the design esthetic for the Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts reaches back almost 80 years and borrows reverentially from the bold style of his 1930s design, but not before adding a few contemporary touches. Designs for other characters have a similar approach, favoring a “rubber-hose” cartoon style for more exaggerated animation. Background designs closely reflect the graphic design sense of 1950s and 1960s Disney cartoons. And for those true eagle-eyed Disney fans, the production team has also included the occasional homage to other icons from the storied Disney heritage.

Charles Ponstingl, the Man who carved the Comics

Awesome!
To understand Charles’ interest in Comic Characters, one need only look back to his childhood. All the Funny Folks, and the Great Artists who created them, speak to him of simpler times and better days, echoing an era when America was still fresh and brave. They carry him back to his earliest days, a time when good and evil were still easily discernible, and almost everyone, as well as the Comic Characters that Charles met in the “Funny Papers”, were all on the same page.
Ron carried the carvings into my house, one at a time. Each one was contained in its own carefully constructed carrying case. As I lifted the lid of one box after another to feast my eyes on the treasures that hid inside, I thought, how strange this whole adventure seemed. These mysterious carvings; how did they come to be? The work of this reportedly unpleasant old man was clearly talking to me, and telling me a story that didn’t quite add up. Could this curiously friendly and so lovingly crafted body of work really be the product of a difficult and cantankerous old man? And why was it “he would never carve again”?
