The Clockwork Orange Times
Vor drei Jahren hat das Blog Kubrickonia Scans der Zeitung gepostet, die damals zum Release von „Clockwork Orange“ verteilt wurden. Kubrick wäre heute übrigens 84 Jahre alt geworden. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!
In 1972 to support the wide release of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE this tabloid sized herald was given away free in US cinemas. It featured 8 pages of photos, Philip Castle’s illustrations and an assortment of press cuttings pertaining to the films pre-Christmas 1971 limited release. Space was provided at the bottom of the front cover to enable each cinema to publicise show times etc. This particular copy came from the Cleveland area.

Before Alex appears we can see two albums in the racks, Livin’ the Blues by Canned Heat and The Time is Near… by the Keef Hartley Band.
When Alex wanders in he passes a large rack of albums, some of which elude my occasionally sketchy knowledge of 70s’ rock. I can recognise these: 1) U by The Incredible String Band, 2) Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd, 3) As Your Mind Flies By by Rare Bird, 4) Get Ready by Rare Earth and 5), the one that started it all, Lorca by Tim Buckley.
Alex passes a booth stacked with magazines and newspapers. The one at the lower right is a popular film magazine of the time, Films and Filming.
He passes the other side of the magazine booth, selects a magazine and leafs through it while he walks. I’d never paid much attention to this before until I was stepping through the scene again and recognised the cover as a copy of Cinema X (The International Guide for Adult Audiences), an exploitation mag that existed solely to show people stills of nude scenes in current films. This is Kubrick’s first joke since Cinema X is exactly the kind of title that would attract Alex’s attention even though he discards it a few moments later.

Kafka und Clockwork Orange Atari Cartridges
Den Flickr-Stream vom übertalentierten 9 0 0 0 hatte ich schonmal, jetzt hat er allerdings Atari Cartridges entdeckt und mindestens zwei davon sind so dermaßen over the top awesome, dass ich mir beide unununbedingt hier reinkleben muss: Clockwork Orange als Atari Cartridge mit den vier Spielmodi Ultraviolence, Ludovico Technique, Knife Moloko und After Prison. Und Kafkas Verwandlung als Atari Game. Fantastisch!
Überhaupt ruhig mal durch den kompletten Stream klicken, der Herr macht absolut fantastische Arbeiten, fast jedes einzelne Dings wäre eigentlich ein eigenes Posting wert.

Clockwork Orange PC-Mod
Dieser ultrabrutale Clockwork Orange PC-Mod namens „Overclocked Orange“ von David Penfold aka Mremulator wäre so richtig perfekt, wenn er Beethovens Neunte als Startup-Sound spielen würde. So ist er nur totally awesome. Reicht aber auch, finde ich.

Ich bin die Tage zufällig auf eine Dokumentation über A Clockwork Orange und dessen Beziehungen zur britischen Geschichte und Kulturgeschichte gestoßen. Sie wurde vor knapp acht Jahren vom Sender Channel 4 zum großen Rerelease des Filmes in Großbritannien gesendet.
Kubrick ließ Clockwork nach der offiziellen Veröffentlichung Anfang der 70er aus nie eindeutig geklärten Gründen nachträglich aus allen britischen Kinos entfernen, so dass es dann tatsächlich erst bis nach seinem Tod dauerte, dass der Film im Jahr 2000, fast 30 Jahren später, wieder offiziell auf der Insel vorgeführt wurde.
The Return of a Clockwork Orange ist eine äußerst interessante Dokumentation mit Kommentaren von u.a. Sam Mendes, Steven Soderbergh und Malcolm McDowell, vor allem aber mit einer ganz großen Packung Wehmut.
Ludwig van Clockwork Orange-Skulptur
Das ist wohl die ultimative Mashup-Skulptur: Frank Kozik gestaltete diese Statue von Ludwig van Beethoven als goldenen Alex aus „A Clockwork Orange“, das Teil ist aus Vinyl und auf 50 Stück limitiert. Die ultimative Horrorshow, sozusagen.
Clockwork Orange Singing in the Rain Illu
Ich liebe diese Clockwork Orange/Singing in the Rain Mashup-Illu aus einem Wettbewerb der Crazy 4 Cult-Ausstellung, die ich neulich schonmal fast gepostet hätte, weil sie ein Artwork von Andy Wilson am Start hatten, worauf tausend Filmikonen abgebildet waren (was ich dann aber trotzdem gelassen habe, weil das Artwork zu klein war, um da wirklich was drauf zu erkennen).

Clockwork Orange mit Mick Jagger und den Beatles
Irgendwo in einem Parallel-Universum läuft grade in einem kleinen Programmkino die in diesem Universum ursprünglich geplante Version von Clockwork Orange. Dort ist der Film ein kunterbunter, psycheledischer LSD-Trip von John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy, Marathon Man) mit Mick Jagger in der Hauptrolle als ultrabrutaler Alex und einem Soundtrack von den Beatles statt Beethoven.
In a letter uncovered this week, we learn of the Clockwork Orange conceived back before Stanley Kubrick came on board and made his film with Malcolm McDowell. It reveals that Mick Jagger wanted to play the psychotic thug Alex, while the Beatles were interested in providing the soundtrack.
In the letter, executive producer Si Litvinoff tells John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy, Marathon Man), who was considering directing the movie: “After you’ve read the script and novel I’m sure you will see the incredible potential we all see in this project.
“This film should break ground in its language, cinematic style and soundtrack. [And] the Beatles love the project.”
Wenn ich die Wahl hätte, fiele sie immer noch auf Kubricks Meisterwerk. Aber sollte mich je ein Riss in der Raumzeit in genau dieses Paralleluniversum verfrachten: ich freu mich schon jetzt auf die Beatles-Jagger-Version der Droogs.

Das ist zu gut, das will ich auch hier haben: ein Reservoir Dogs/Clockwork Orange-Mashup! Gibt es hier eigentlich Leute, die sich f?ºr Film interessieren, die Filmfreunde aber trotzdem nicht lesen? Und warum, verdammt?
