Anscheinend hat sich im Laufe der Jahre ein Markt für DIY-Daft Punk-Helme gebildet, da die Jungs und die Firma, die die Originale herstellt, keine Replicas herausgeben, unter anderem geht’s im Posting vom Wall Street Journal um den alten NC-Bekannten Harrison Krix aka Volpin Props:
Harrison Krix, 30, was working at an ad agency in Atlanta when he decided to try his hand at re-creating a Daft Punk helmet for a prospective buyer in California four years ago. After months of blueprinting, mold-making, sculpting and sanding, Mr. Krix shipped his helmet to an automotive shop that specialized in chrome plating, installed circuit boards and eventually delivered a shimmering gold specimen nearly identical to the first one worn by Mr. de Homem-Christo, complete with rainbow LEDs. […]
Kevin Sanders, founder of the Daft Club, a London fan site, says he started seeing so much helmet-hawking in discussion forums that he created a special page where buyers and sellers could connect.
Mr. Sanders said his website has tracked a 365% jump in the number of members seeking helmets last month from the year earlier. Helmets without programmable light displays cost from $200 to $500; computerized designs run up to several thousand dollars.

New Orleans Brass Band covers Daft Punk
Nice, Maddwikkid machen Brass Band-Cover von Daft Punk-Klassikern. Per Kickstarter haben sie sich bereits ein Cover von Get Lucky finanziert. Die Band ist übrigens auf Trax Records Chicago, for those who know.
This might be the strangest release of classic Chicago label Trax yet! The clue’s in the title – it’s Daft Punk brassified. We get four classics by the world’s most famous Gallic robot duo: “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” gets turned into a 1940s Dick Tracy-style riff-off with every form of trumpet imaginable, “Around The World” mixes wind instruments with that famous vocal mantra, “Da Funk” features plenty of sassy brass and “One More Time” wraps things up on a swingin’, jazzy high.

Daft Punk – Random Access Memories (Review)
Das neue Album Random Access Memories von Daft Punk streamt seit heute für lau auf iTunes, ein Webrip davon gibt’s bei den bekannten alternativen Distributoren. Ich hab’s mir jetzt komplett angehört und sollte vielleicht vorausschicken, dass Funk jetzt nicht wirklich mein Sound ist. Das erklärt zumindest stellenweise, warum mir das Album sehr oft ziemlich egal ist und ich mindestens einen Track völlig furchtbare Kacke finde. Auf der anderen Seite hat das Album doch so viele grandios fantastische Stellen, dass ich RAM insgesamt gut finden kann, stellenweise brillant, aber eben durchwachsen.
Der erste Track Give Life Back To Music macht ziemlich egal rum, Nile Rogers langweilt sehr mit seiner herkömmlichen Funk-Gitarre, so sehr, dass ich ein paar Minuten bereits vergessen hatte, wie der Track nochmal ging. Kein gutes Zeichen für einen Album-Einstieg. The Game of Love ist eine nette Vocoder-Ballade mit Synths, die direkt aus einem Argento-Film stammen könnten.
Giorgo By Moroder reisst dann definitiv das bisher belanglose Geplänkel aus seiner Lethargie, überrascht mit Interview-Inhalten, dankenswerterweise in den Hintergrund gemischten Funk-Gitarren und einem fast schon hypnotischen Deep House-Ansatz, um dann mit einem völlig unwahrscheinlichen Break grandios zu überraschen. Dann nervt er leider wieder mit dämlichen Funk-Einlagen, nur um hintenraus den völligen Wahnsinn zu entfachen und zum ersten mal zeigt das Album hier seine echt herausragende Stärke: Die grandiose Drum-Arbeit von Quinn und wenn dann hinten raus die Iron Maiden-Gitarren da reinfetzen, sitzt man etwas ungläubig da, vor allem gemessen an den ersten beiden Tracks.
Daft Punk Interview + Pharrell + Get Lucky
Daft Punk haben mit dem Rolling Stone über das neue Album geredet, oben der neue Collab-Clip vom Creators Project mit Pharrell und hier noch ein Clip mit Fashionkram von Hedi Slimane/YSL. Der Daft Punk-Craze geht mir ja jetzt schon ein bisschen auf den Zeiger und „Get Lucky“ halte ich jetzt auch nicht für den Über-Burner, aber an Daft Punk wird man in diesem Sommer sicher nicht vorbeikommen. Apropos Lucky, die erste Single We rub a mexican Monkey ist wohl bereits in der Soundcloud:
The album’s move away from computerized sounds reflects Daft Punk’s “ambivalence” about the EDM craze they helped to inspire. “Electronic music right now is in its comfort zone and it’s not moving one inch,” Thomas says. “That’s not what artists are supposed to do.” He adds that the genre is suffering “an identity crisis: You hear a song, whose track is it? There’s no signature. Skrillex has been successful because he has a recognizable sound: You hear a dubstep song, even if it’s not him, you think it’s him.”
Keep an eye on those Saturday Night Live commercial breaks. So far, Daft Punk have debuted two fifteen-second chunks of “Get Lucky” in ads that play during Saturday Night Live, incrementally revealing more of the song. Along with billboards advertising the album, these TV ads represent a throwback impulse that’s guiding the new album’s roll-out.

Live-Streams vom Festival laufen auch hierzulande, ich hab’ sie hier eingebettet, auf Facebook hatte ich einen netten Screenshot vom „blut“verschmierten Jello „Dead Kennedys“ Biafra gepostet.

Daft Punk launch new Album at the Wee Waa Show
Damit haben Daft Punk die Musik-News des Jahres so gut wie sicher: Ihr neues Album „Random Access Memories“ feiert Premiere auf einem Dorffest im Australischen Outback. Das 2000-Seelen-Kaff heisst Wee Waa (Google Map), das Fest nennt sich Wee Waa Show und neben dem nicht so ganz unwichtigen Album-Debut gibt’s noch „Australian country show entertainment including the pet show, showgirl competition, cross cut saw competition, fireworks and much more.“ Das Fest hat noch dazu eine Nutzviehausstellung und sie zeigen da „some of the western plains’ of New South Wales’ finest sheep and cattle“. Knaller!

The launch of the new album, Random Access Memories, will take place during the Wee Waa Show on the night of May 17, and streamed online to an international audience. Narrabri Shire Council and the Wee Waa Show Society have been working in close contact with Sony Music to make the event a reality.
Some have questioned why such a world-renowned band would choose to launch its new album in an Australian country town, but for Sony Music, the choice was easy. “We think Wee Waa is so uniquely Australian, so the folks at Sony Music along with Daft Punk thought it fitted the bill perfectly,” said Narrabri Shire Council mayor, Conrad Bolton.
“Daft Punk is known for breaking down barriers and coming up with new creative, innovative ideas to launch their albums.”
The Wee Waa Showground will host a playback of the new album, which has been hotly anticipated by millions of the Grammy Award-winning band’s fans. Sony Music said it wanted to undertake a music launch on a scale that hadn’t been done before, and chose Wee Waa because it was a typical Australian small country town. The worldwide release date of the album co-incides with the Wee Waa Show, so the event will now be incorporated into the show.

CK303 aus Irland hatte Ende 2011 ‘nen einstündigen Mix mit 42 Tracks am Start, die er als Samples in Daft Punks Debüt „Homework“ und in ihrem 1997er BBC Essential Mix gehört oder aus den Linernotes rausgesucht hatte. Jetzt hat er den zweiten Teil online gestellt, inklusive einem Track von Thomas Bangalters Papa und ich wäre nicht ich, wenn ich nicht ‘was zu meckern hätte: Der Mix enthält nicht wenig Material aus den Jahren 96/97, da waren Daft Punk allerdings bereits voll am Start und ich behaupte, dass Tracks wie etwa Mousse Ts „Everybody“ eher von Daft Punk beeinflusst wurden, als andersrum.
Aber hey, Kultur beeinflusst sich sowieso immer gegenseitig und zu der Zeit gab’s sowieso einen massiven Chicago-House-Hype, in dem sich dann auch DJ Tonka und Ian Pooley aus Mainz zu internationalen Stars aufgeschwungen haben… aber ich schweife ab, hier CK303s Daft Punk Influences als DJ Mix.

Es gab schon haufenweise Gerüchte, jetzt ist es offiziell: Das erste „richtige“ Daft Punk-Album seit 8 Jahren kommt in diesem Frühling. Der Sound der letzten Alben hat noch bis in die 10er Jahre gewirkt und tausende Nachahmer (JUSTICE, YACHT, Digitalism) gefunden, ich bin äußerst gespannt, ob und wie sehr sie am Sound für’s neue Album gedreht haben, vor allem in Hinblick auf die Zusammenarbeit mit Giorgio Moroder. Daft Punk have signed to Sony-owned Columbia and will release their fourth album this spring. The French dance duo, which consists of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, have left Virgin, with whom they signed in 1996.
The pair, who made a cameo in an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ last year, have been working with Chic’s Nile Rodgers, who previously hinted their fourth album would appear in 2013, as well as Oscar-winning songwriter Paul Williams and disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder. Animal Collective’s Panda Bear and Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales are also rumoured to have collaborated with the Gallic duo.
