Radio Soulwax’ „Dave“: Mashing up the Thin White Duke for Cinema
Radio Soulwax haben „Dave“, ihre einstündige Film/Mashup-Hommage an David Bowie, komplett online gestellt. „Dave“ ist nun nicht das zwingendste, das Soulwax jemals gemacht haben, ich bin nun aber auch nicht der allergrößte Bowie-Fan. Und Soulwax versuchen immerhin, dem wirklich durch- und totgelutschten Konzept des Mashups ‘ne neue Richtung zu geben. In diesem Sinne: Schönes Ding!
Our homage to the man whose ability to change whilst remaining himself has been a massive influence on us. There are many legends in the music industry but for us, there is no greater than the mighty Dave. We’ve included all things Bowie, whether that is original songs, covers, backing vocals, production work or reworks we made, to attempt to give you the full scope of the man’s genius.
For the visual side to this mix our friend Wim Reygaert (who also made the amazing film for Into The Vortex) came up with the most ambitious film for RSWX, taking us on a fever dream time travel through the man’s career starring the amazing Hannelore Knuts as Dave. We’ve got to extend a special thank you to the cast and crew and everyone involved for putting so much time and energy and heart and soul into this amazing film, it is a pure labour of love for the phenomenon that is Bowie.

Am Freitag hat die Bank von England bekanntgegeben, dass James Watt und Matthew Boulton demnächst den 50 Pfund-Schein zieren werden. Die zwei hatten im 18. Jahrhundert die Dampfmaschine effizienter und die Industrielle Revolution damit möglich gemacht.
Viel spannender: Das Brixton Pound (B£), Englands erste lokale Währung, hat seine Geldscheine ebenfalls neu gestaltet und zwar mit „David Bowie (as Ziggy Stardust) […] on the B£10 note; Chicago Bulls basketball player, Luol Deng, on the B£5; and WWII spy, Violette Szabo, on the B£20. Len Garrison, the co-founder of the Black Cultural Archives appears on the B£1 note.“ Sehr hübsch!

David Bowie’s classic space epic is one such song for me. Every lyric paints such a vivid picture that I figured “Oh hey, I guess I’ll make that into a children’s book!” Yes, I talk like this.

Liebe Zielgruppe von Nerdcore, packt doch mal bitte kurz Papas Schmuddelheftchen weg oder schiebt sie kurz zu den Hausaufgaben, die ihr eigentlich machen solltet: Hier könnt ihr Musikgeschichte erleben.
David Bowie nämlich, der später (also später als 1970) so etwas wird, was heute mitunter (das mitunter ist an dieser Stelle recht wichtig) eine Mischung aus Lady Gaga und Marilyn Manson wäre, ist hier bei seinem ersten größeren Fernsehauftritt am 10. Mai 1970 zu sehen, wie er “Space Oddity” spielt und das dazu noch sehr großartig. Dass der mal so abdreht hätte auch niemand gedacht. Aber wenn nicht, wäre die Musikwelt sicher um einiges langweiliger gewesen.
Marco bloggt eigentlich auf Minds Delight und ist leider ein bisschen zu jung für David Bowie.

Ground Control to Major Tom: Pünktlich zum 40sten Jahrestag der Mondlandung wird David Bowies berühmtes „Space Oddity“ neu aufgelegt – inklusive der einzelnen Spuren, ready for Remix. Und ein Remix-Contest dürfte auch noch folgen.
40 years ago to the day that Neil Armstrong stepped on to the moon, EMI will create a unique opportunity for David Bowie fans: the chance to download and mix the original multi-tracks of Space Oddity which also celebrates the 40th anniversary of its original release on July 11th.
Partly inspired after seeing Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which premièred in London in May 1968, Space Oddity was originally written later that year with the first known recorded version dating from February 1969, several months before its eventual release on July 11th 1969 and some time before the Apollo 11 moon landings.
