Cellphone Tower Trees
Vor rund einem Jahr bloggte ich über Robert Voigts Fotografie von als Bäumen getarnten Mobilfunkmasten, hier das gleiche aus Südafrika von Dillon Marsh:
An important chapter in the history of tree-shaped cellphone towers was written in South Africa. In the mid-’90s, Ivo Branislav Lazic (who worked for a telecommunications service company called Brolaz Projects) and his colleague Aubrey Trevor Thomas were commissioned by Vodacom to solve the visual pollution problem cellphones presented. Lazic and Thomas came up with the world’s first palm tree cellphone tower. The Palm Pole Tower, made from non-toxic plastics, was installed in Cape Town in 1996.
“There were already a wide variety of designs by the time I started photographing,” says Marsh, who completed the project over six months in 2009. “The designs loosely mimic trees that are found in the local environment.”

Harald Geisler aus Frankfurt finanziert sich grade eine Umsetzung von Sigmund Freuds Handschrift als digitaler Script-Font. Schönes Projekt!
To make the Sigmund Freud typeface look vivid, the font will be programmed to produce variations or ‘alternates’ during writing. Two different ‘o’ have to be drawn and stored in the font’s memory. In the next step the font is programmed‚ to replace the second ‘o’ with the alternate ‘o’.
Every language has letter combinations that occur more often than others. In English (counting the complete text of James Joyce’s Ulysses) the top three pairs are ‘he’ ‘th’ ‘in’. While in German (analyzing Goethe’s Faust I) the most found letter pairs are ‘ch’ ‘en’ and ‘er’ (French: ‘es’ ‘le’ ‘ou’, Spanish ‘ue’ ‘de’ ‘en’)
To make the Sigmund Freud font look as handwritten as possible I will include alternates for the most common letter combinations in English, Spanish, German and French as alternates into the font.

Tolle Kampagne eines neuseeländischen Stromproduzenten mit Mao Gangnam Style, Thatcher auf Psyllos und dem Papst als Vermähler schwuler Pärchen. Hervorragende Illustrationen und ich liebe die Farben! Dürfte auch nicht viel mit greenwashing zu tun haben, der Laden hat laut Wikipedia einen ziemlich guten Ruf.

Instrument-Visualization of the Beatles’ Discography
Großartige Posterserie der Popchart Labs, die den kompletten Katalog der Beatles nach Instrumentierung aufgeschlüsselt und das ganze in drei großformatige Infografik-Prints visualisiert haben. Man sieht in diesen Infografiken sehr genau die vor allem in ihrer mittleren Schaffensphase unheimlich komplex werdenden Instrumentierungen. Toll! Volume 1 gibt’s hier, Vol.2 dort, das dritte Poster da und ein Box-Set mit allen drei Prints kann man hier kaufen.

Volume II covers their explosively creative middle period, from the release of “Rubber Soul” through “Magical Mystery Tour,” as the band incorporated exotic instruments such as the dilruba and tambura, as well as improvised sounds such as clinking glasses, rattling chains, and more.
Volume III covers their final period, from the “White Album” through “Let It Be,” as the band continued to push the possibilities of recorded music on songs like “Revolution 9″ and “Across the Universe.”
Obey Giant in Space
Shepard „Obey Giant“ Fairey hat den neuen Aufnäher der ISS-Mission Casis gestaltet. Und ich meine darin einen seiner stilisierten André the Giant-Formen zu sehen und hab’ das im Bild rechts mal zusammengeklickt. Wahrscheinlich ist das Unsinn, aber sagen wir’s mal so:
Wenn ich Fairey wäre und das hier sehr wahrscheinlich meine einzige Möglichkeit bleiben würde, in meinem Leben etwas von mir ins All zu schicken und ich hätte so ein prägnantes Markenzeichen und käme aus der Streetart, wo ein nicht unerheblicher Teil der Arbeit darin besteht, Wände zu malen und mein Tag zu verbreiten – ich würde mein Tag/Logo/Icon selbstverständlich irgendwie da unterbringen. Aber wahrscheinlich ist das Unsinn, na klar. Winkwinknudgenudge.
Jedenfalls hat Shepard „Obey Giant“ Fairey den neuen Aufnäher der ISS-Mission Casis gestaltet und ist damit wahrscheinlich der erste moderne Streetartist mit Kunst im All. Vor ihm hat allerdings jemand namens Frosty Myers ein Mini-Museum mit sechs Zeichnungen auf den Mond geschickt, unter anderem einen Pimmel von Andy Warhol.

The most recent addition to the long history of space mission crew patches was announced this past weekend live on stage from the Engadget Expand event in San Francisco, CA with artwork designed by Shepard Fairey (Obey Giant, Studio Number One, Obama Hope). The crew patch artwork will mark the inaugural CASIS-managed flight to the International Space Station. CASIS (Center for the Advancement of Science in Space) is the non-profit entity setup by Congress to promote and broker research onboard the International Space Station, U.S. National Laboratory.
Named ARK1 (Advancing Research Knowledge), the September 2013 through March 2014 flight plans will be the the start of many CASIS managed flights to the ISS.

Sehr schicke Animation für die FITC-Designkonferenz in Amsterdam von Gmunk, der Tunnel ist eine LED-Konstruktion, hier noch ein fast noch schickeres Behind-The-Scenes-Video:
The structure itself is made up of two main elements. The LED Panels and the LED tubes. 3 LED panels were used to make up the walls, all controlled by video content from a control computer. This allowed us to have open ended control over the motion, color, and effects that were applied to the video content. In addition to the 3 LED panels, 6 LED tubes were used to border the structure at both the front and the back opening. These tubes were also controlled by a mapped video signal that corresponded with the content playing on the main panels. That way we could accomplish moments of punch and exclamation as the content traveled both toward and away from the camera. They also provided a really nice frame for the shot, showing us the beginning of the space and the end.

Großartige Mickey Mouse-Illus von Walt Disney aus dem Jahr 1935, angefertigt für die damalige Prinzessin Elizabeth, die jetzige Queen. Mickey Mouse hatte ihren ersten Auftritt in Farbe drei Jahre vorher im Cartoon Parade of the Award Nominees.
Created specially for then Princess Elizabeth, now Queen, way back in 1935, this art of Mickey and friends, charming and cheerful as they spend time in London, appeared in The Princess Elizabeth Gift Book, In Aid of the Princess Elizabeth of York Hospital for Children.
Donald is still pretty primitive in appearance, Goofy is still Dippy Dawg, the Limeys are loopy—and this is definitely the mouse’s finest era. Note how Horace is demonstrating the royal backhand wave.
