Der Guardian über den gameifizierten Überwachungsprotest CAMOVER:
The game is real-life Grand Theft Auto for those tired of being watched by the authorities in Berlin; points are awarded for the number of cameras destroyed and bonus scores are given for particularly imaginative modes of destruction. Axes, ropes and pitchforks are all encouraged.
“We thought it would motivate inactive people out there if we made a video-invitation to this reality-game,” the creator of Camover (who wanted to remain anonymous) told me. “Although we call it a game, we are quite serious about it: our aim is to destroy as many cameras as possible and to have an influence on video surveillance in our cities.”
The winner of the game does not get a trophy or a year’s supply of spray paint. The competition ends on 19 February, to coincide with the start of the European Police Congress.

Ich hab’ mir grade tatsächlich 12 Minuten lang russische Autos beim Crashen angesehen, hat in der konzentration ‘ne durchaus hypnotische Wirkung. Vieles davon hatte ich bereits gesehen, der Stromleitungsüberschlag toppt aber nach wie vor alles.
Gregory Euclides Wiped Away-Paintings
Gregory Euclide macht Kunst und lehrt an einer High School und während der Mittagspause hat er in 25 Minuten ein bisschen Kunst an Whiteboards gemalt, die er anschließend wieder wegwischte. Aus einem Interview mit mnoriginal:
MNO: These projects were presumably all washed away – what appealed to you about creating a completely impermanent work?
GE: I could make them in 25 minutes, so they were not too incredibly precious to me. Yes, they were all washed away. I was kind of showing students what could be done with 25 minutes of time. They would come in from the previous day and be like… “what happened to that drawing that was up there yesterday?” I would explain that I washed it off and they would just be floored that someone would make something and then destroy it.

Burning down the Houses for Art
Carrie Schneider baut seit zwei Jahren Minihäuser, fährt mit ihnen an einen See in Wisconsin, bringt sie mit einem Kanu auf ‘ne kleine Insel in der Mitte des Sees und fackelt sie ab. Das fotografiert sie dann, zu den verschiedensten Jahreszeit im Schnee, im Sommer, bei Tag, bei Nacht.
Across the course of two years, Schneider built a small 8×6 foot white house for each photograph, drove it to a lake in Wisconsin, and hauled it by canoe out to the tiny island. Meticulous care and planning went in to every image, and the process resulted in these uncanny, vibrant landscapes—a strong contrast of ferocious fire set against a meditative backdrop.
Monique Meloche Gallery explains, “The aggressive destruction of a symbol of domestic life resonates across cultures, touching on a universal fear of personal loss and helplessness. Yet, the house that stands unrelenting to the fire’s constant attack can be read as an allegory for strength and stamina against a constant destructive energy.”

Ian ‘Kid Zoom’ Strange hat für eine Installation im Herbst letzten Jahres sein Elternhaus als Model im Maßstab 1:1 in einer Halle nachgebaut. Dann hat er drei Autos davorgestellt und abgefackelt, das Video dazu hat er jetzt vor ein paar Tagen online gestellt. Metaphorische Selbstzerstörungskunst, oder so ähnlich. Faszinierend!

Fantastisch! Ich weiß nicht, ob Charly Molinelli erst seinen Ferrari kaputtgefahren hat (oder ob das überhaupt seiner war) und dann auf die Idee kam, oder ob er einen Ferrari für die Idee geschrottet hat. Aber ich liebe kaputte Autos als Möbel. Was soll man auch sonst mit den Stinkbolzen anfangen.

Shredding Money in the Name of Art
Gary McNair hat im Zuge der Finanzkrise ein Theaterstück entwickelt, an dessen Ende das Publikum aufgefordert wird, Geldscheine zu schreddern. Ganz im Sinne von The KLF und Rio Reiser.
Gary McNair, a Glasgow-based theatre-maker, is the artist behind the one-man show Crunch, which runs until 27 August at Forest Fringe.
Conceived in the wake of the financial crisis, while McNair was an associate artist of the National Theatre of Scotland, the show seeks to critique money as a belief system. In it, McNair promises a “five-step programme” to “release you from the terrors of the financial system”. […]
The climax of the show was, however, the moment when he suggested members of the audience feed their hard-earned cash through an office shredder, “as a vaccine against the disasters of the future, so that money and greed will lose their grip on you”. Five did, with £10 notes as well as £5 notes returned to their owners as useless slithers of paper. (Destroying banknotes is not an offence, as commonly believed, though defacing them is.)

Die Tricks in Daybrokes „Sabotage“-Video sind zwar nicht wirklich auf der Höhe, aber das ist furchtbar egal, denn es zeigt nix anderes als eine globale Destruction-Rube Goldberg Machine, total Mayhem und die Apocalypse ausgelöst durch einen Lautstärkeregler.
