Mike Butterfinger hat seinen S2-Controller entstaubt und drei Stunden lang neue Tracks in Traktor zusammengerührt. Für eventuell durchknallende Kids auf Acid übernimmt er keinerlei Verantwortung. Der Mix mäandert ganz angenehm zwischen für mich Mike recht untypisches Deep House und unaufgeregtem Techno, wird hintenraus einmal ein bisschen fieser auf so ‘ne perkussive Art, da passieren dann auch ein paar kleinere, nicht allzu störende Fehler, kriegt sich dann aber wieder ein und schließt mit einem der besten Mashups, die ich kenne.

Heute ist Free Comicbook Day und DJ Food hat einen fantastischen Comic-Mix voller Soundtracks und Zitaten von Superman bis Flash Gordon am Start. Yay! Am Free Comicbook Day gibt’s in jeder Menge Comicläden Gratiscomics, eine Übersicht über die Nummern findet man hier, die deutsche Ausgabe des FCBD findet nächste Woche statt. Snip von Soundcloud:
DJ Food looks back once again for our 25th Anniversary slot taking ‘Free Comic Book Day’ (this Saturday, May 4th) as his theme to present tracks that feature references to comic book characters. The Marvel and DC worlds of Superman, Batman and Spiderman feature heavily with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Cliff Richard revealing their passion for Caped Crusaders and Wall Crawlers. But the more obscure feature too with three nods to Judge Dredd, two for Flash Gordon and even Elton John singing the praises of Dan Dare. DJ Food will have a piece of artwork in a new exhibition called Image Duplicator – looking at the original comic artists that Lichtenstein copied for his most famous work – opening on May 16th at Orbital Comics in London.

Sven Väth live im Frankfurter Dorian Gray, 1987. Wirklich anhören kann/sollte man sich die Mixe nicht, aber als skurriles Zeitdokument ist das natürlich mehr als interessant: Alexander O’Neal, ABC, Janet Jackson, Richard Wagner… jeez. Und: Fucking Rick Astley. Der Mann hat 1987 das Gray gerickrollt. Das dürfte kurz nach seiner Zeit als OFF und „Electrica Salsa“ gewesen sein, zwei Jahre bevor er das Omen kaufte.

CK303 aus Irland hatte Ende 2011 ‘nen einstündigen Mix mit 42 Tracks am Start, die er als Samples in Daft Punks Debüt „Homework“ und in ihrem 1997er BBC Essential Mix gehört oder aus den Linernotes rausgesucht hatte. Jetzt hat er den zweiten Teil online gestellt, inklusive einem Track von Thomas Bangalters Papa und ich wäre nicht ich, wenn ich nicht ‘was zu meckern hätte: Der Mix enthält nicht wenig Material aus den Jahren 96/97, da waren Daft Punk allerdings bereits voll am Start und ich behaupte, dass Tracks wie etwa Mousse Ts „Everybody“ eher von Daft Punk beeinflusst wurden, als andersrum.
Aber hey, Kultur beeinflusst sich sowieso immer gegenseitig und zu der Zeit gab’s sowieso einen massiven Chicago-House-Hype, in dem sich dann auch DJ Tonka und Ian Pooley aus Mainz zu internationalen Stars aufgeschwungen haben… aber ich schweife ab, hier CK303s Daft Punk Influences als DJ Mix.

DJ Food hat anlässlich des 25jährigen Jubiläums der Solid Steel Radioshow (über das ich vor ein paar Wochen gebloggt hatte) und der Kraftwerk-Auftritte im Londoner Tate Modern-Museum einen neuen Teil seiner Kraftwerk Kover Kollection (über die ich schonmal vor einem Jahr gebloggt hatte) gespielt und online gestellt. In Hour 2 [of the Solid Steel Radioshow] DJ Food takes up the 25th Anniversary slot with volume 8 of his Kraftwerk Kover Kollections in time to celebrate the band playing 8 nights at the Tate Modern in London. These mixes have become a regular feature on the show over the years, unearthing incredible and bizarre cover versions of Kraftwerk tracks. A Bollywood version of The Man Machine, The Model played on church bells, sung by a choir and covered by comedian Adrian Edmondson are just some of the treats along with jazz, piano and acoustic versions of their classics and a couple of comedy skits commenting on the ticket meltdowns surrounding the band’s shows.

Ich hab’ mir gestern nacht einen Horror-Soundtrack-Mix aus den Ärmeln geschüttelt. Vor einer ganzen Weile hab ich irgendwoher ‘ne ganze Sammlung alter Soundtracks gefunden, und zwar solche, die man nicht wirklich in der Bucht findet und ich weiß wirklich nicht mehr, woher ich den Kram hab’. Jedenfalls hab’ ich Soundtracks von obskuren und legendären Trash-Horrorflicks aus den 70ern und 80ern und die hab ich gestern gemixt. DJ Food hat für Radio XFMs DJShadow-Special einen 20minütigen Über-Mega-Mix aus 61 Tracks gebastelt (und einen Ambient-Mix, aber Ambient ist esoterische Geräuschmasturbation ohne Sinn und ja, ich hab’ von Ambient absolut überhaupt keine Ahnung). DJ-Set: DJ Food reconstructs Beastie Boys’ Pauls Boutique
DJ Food und Kollegen von Ninja Tune haben Beastie Boys’ „Pauls Boutique“ rekonstruiert, aus den Original-Samples, Demos und Interviews. Der Mix für die Solid Steel Radioshow ist seit drei Jahren in Arbeit, die Tracklist umfasst nicht weniger als 167 Songs und Soundbits. In der Soundcloud gibt’s die einstündige Variante ohne die anderen Items aus der Show, auf Mixcloud gibt’s die kompletten zwei Stunden mit zusätzlichen Mixen von Coldcut und PC. Obendrauf kommt ‘ne Cover-Illu von Comiczeichner Jim „Food One“ Mahfood (Tank Girl, Kevin Smiths Clerks, Marvel). Über die unglaublich großartige Großartigkeit von all dem hier muss ich wohl keine weiteren Worte verlieren, oder vielleicht doch, eins: WHOA!
3 years in the making, 3 DJs working with over 150 tracks to recreate one of the seminal sampling albums of all time, at last Cheeba, Moneyshot and I can reveal ‘Caught In The Middle Of A 3-Way Mix’. Our tribute to the classic Beastie Boys album ‘Paul’s Boutique’ remixed and re-imagined from all the original samples plus a cappellas, period interviews and the Beasties’ own audio commentary from the reissued release.
Add to this a custom illustration from Paul’s Boutique super-fan and all-round great guy Jim Mahfood, taking time out from recent art duties on Tank Girl, and you have an alternate version of the album. The mix was over half way finished when we heard the tragic news of Adam Yauch‘s passing this May so this is also our nod to his memory, RIP MCA.

DJ Foods Kraftwerk-Month
DJ Food postet anlässlich der Kraftwerk-Gigs im MoMA in New York (wo sie an acht Abenden alle Alben komplett spielen… whoa!) bereits seit Anfang März jeden Tag mindestens ein Kraftwerk-Item, seltene Cover, Packagings, Poster und sonstigen Schnickschnack. Herzstück der Sammlung sind seine DJ-Sets aus Coverversionen, von denen gibt es insgesamt sechs Teile, zwei davon hatte er letztes Jahr gepostet und grade eben hat er den letzten fehlenden online gestellt. Das ist insgesamt ein ziemlicher Knaller, alleine den Kraftwerk-Taschenrechner inklusive Anleitung zum Spielen des Tracks auf einem Casio Rechner ist Wahnsinn.
