No one steals your worthless CDs anymore
In England sind die Zahlen der gestohlenen CDs und DVDs in den letzten Jahren extrem eingebrochen (no pun intended). Wenn einem nichtmal mehr die Produkte geklaut werden, dann hat man als Industrie wirklich ein Problem. Und nein – Copying is not theft.
“Years ago, you’d see a man in a pub selling CDs,” says Eric Phelps, a detective in London’s Metropolitan Police. “Not any more.” Indeed, thefts of entertainment products like CDs and DVDs have collapsed in England and Wales, to the point that they are now taken in just 7% of all burglaries in which something is stolen (see chart). They are now targeted no more frequently than are toiletries and cigarettes.

Die frisch erschienene DVD-Box mit allen Staffeln der IT Crowd kommt mit einem Fantasy-Rollenspiel inklusive Maurice, the Destroyer! Ein Flickr-Pool voller unglaublicher Photoshop Disasters und noch schlimmeren Übersetzungs-Katastrophen auf Bootleg-DVDs von sonstwoher. Ich habe mir grade in die Hosen gemacht vor Lachen bei 40 Days and 40 Aights, dieser Tagline zu Matrix („The White Men wanted a Stud to breed Slaves“), Star Wars mit Enterprise, The Grunge 2, Punk Drunk Love, diesem Exorzist-Scarface-Mashup und zu 50 Fist Dates muss man ja nun wirklich nix mehr sagen. Naja, und Arnie als John Matrix in Star Wars Episode 1 ist schon jetzt ein Klassiker.
Hillman Curtis Designer-Shortmovies auf DVD
Hillman Curtis, der schon eine ganze Weile Kurzfilme mit Portraits bekannter Designer dreht, hat die jetzt in eine schicke 3er DVD-Edition und in seinen neu gelaunchten Shop gepackt. Das DVD-Set ist mit 50$ zwar nicht so ganz billig, aber so ist das eben mit Design-Schnickschnack.

Daft Punk hatten ihre Liveshows von 2007 gefilmt und schon zusammengeschnitten, da cancelten sie das Vorhaben, eine DVD rauszubringen, weil ihnen das Ergebnis nicht zusagte. So weit, so doof. Mathieu fand das ebenfalls ziemlich beknackt und hat Fanvideos auf Youtube zu einer eigenen DVD zusammengeschnitten. Und weil er die Rechte an den Samples, die Daft Punk verwenden, niemals klären könnte, gibt es die nicht im Handel, sondern am 14. Juni für lau zum Download.

Warum sagt mir eigentlich niemand, dass im Februar eine 18er-Uncut-DVD-Box der „Geschichten aus der Gruft“ erschienen ist? Da sucht man nach irgendwas bei Amazon und stolpert dann auf einmal über dieses Juwel und freut sich den Arsch ab, weil man die Serie damals™ in den Neunzigern völlig verstümmelt bei Sat1 gesehen und danach ebenfalls geschnitten (glaube ich) in der Videothek ausgeliegen hat. Und dann klingelt heute morgen die Post und bringt das Teil, ich spring im Drei-, Vier- und Fünfeck, alles auf einmal.
Die Kurzgeschichtenserie war eine der wenigen, die ohne Überprüfung durch die FCC (vergleichbar mit der Freiwilligen Selbstkontrolle in Deutschland) veröffentlicht werden konnte, weil sie über den Kabelsender HBO (Home Box Office) vertrieben wurde. Dieses ermöglichte den Produzenten in der Serie Inhalte zu verarbeiten, die sonst üblicherweise der Schere zum Opfer fallen, wie Gewaltszenen, Drogen oder Sexszenen. (Wikipedia)
Von den insgesamt 93 produzierten Teilen sind 32 auf der Box enthalten, 828 Uncut-Minuten mit dem Cryptkeeper von Regisseuren wie Tobe Hooper, Robert Zemeckis oder Walter Hill. Außerdem spielt meine Jugendliebe Patsy Kensit in einer Folge mit. Ich bin dann mal eine Weile beschäftigt.

Hollywood-Filme zum DVD-Start auch bei iTunes
Die Lücke zwischen in der Film-Verwertungskette zwischen DVD und elektronischen Medien schließt sich weiter. Die Werke großer und kleiner US-Filmstudios wird es künftig zeitgleich mit dem DVD-Start als Download im iTunes Store geben, kündigte der Computerkonzern Apple am heutigen Donnerstag an.

Diese Anti-Piracy-Werbungen geht einem bei DVDs ja sowieso auf den Sack. Da investiert man Geld in einen Film, weil der einem wirklich gut gefällt, und dann hauen sie dem zahlenden Kunden auch noch Anti-Piraten-Werbung um die Ohren, die einem den Zeigefinger in die Augen bohrt und einen daran erinnert, das Piraten Verbrecher sind. Demnächst essen sie wahrscheinlich auch noch Kinder, die Piraten.
Nun kann ich das ja fast verstehen. Die Musikindustrie steckt einen Umsatzrückgang nach dem anderen ein und die Filmindustrie schaut zu und weiß ganz genau, dass sie als nächste dran ist. Da will man eben vorsorglich schonmal die Kunden darauf hinweisen, dass das anwenden moderner Technologie (noch) strafbar ist. Nervig, aber nachvollziehbar. Und ignorierbar. Bei neuen Filmen zumindest.
Nicht nachvollzieh- oder ignorierbar finde ich es aber, dass man mir als Filmliebhaber, der sich die DVD von „Forbidden Planet“ kauft, einem Film, der schon tausendmal im Fernsehen lief, den ich zweimal auf VHS als Fernsehmitschnitt besitze, dessen eigentlicher Hauptdarsteller, Robby the Robot, schon lange Public Domain ist, nur eben nicht nach juristischen Maßstäben, dass mir auf eine solche DVD, die sowieso nur von Filmliebhabern gekauft wird, weil es eben nicht „300“ oder „Aliens vs Predator“ oder irgendso ein Scheiß ist, sondern ein Science-Fiction-Klassiker, der wahrscheinlich derzeit millionenfach überall auf der Welt illegal runtergeladen wird (natüüüürlich), eine beschissene Anti-Piracy-Werbung gepresst wird.
Die Filmindustrie könnte sich auch gleich genau diejenigen rauspicken, die besonders viel Geld für Filme und DVDs ausgeben und mit denen dann einen Knastbesuch veranstalten. So ganz nach dem Motto: „Guck, lieber Filmliebhaber, da landest Du auch, wenn Du das Wort ‘Bittorrent’ kennst“. Ich bin wirklich geneigt, die DVD umzutauschen und mir den Film auf anderem Wege zu besorgen. Weil ich Filmfan bin und deshalb Anti-Piracy-Werbung ertragen kann. Bei Standard-NerdsDVDs. Aber eben nicht bei der Special-Edition von „Forbidden Planet“.
Wobei ich zugeben muss: der echt schicke Satz aus „Steal this Film II“: „Music didn’t start with the Phonograph and it won’t end with the Peer to Peer-Networks“, der greift beim Film nicht, weil das Medium Film eben doch mit dem Medium „Film“ gestartet ist und deshalb unter der Technologie P2P in weitaus höherem Maße leiden könnte, als es die Musik-Industrie heute schon tut. Mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass die Produktionskosten bei Filmen weitaus höher ist, als bei Musik. Aber darüber mache ich ein anderes mal was.
Grindhouse Werbung mit abgetrennten Armen
Man stelle sich vor, man kommt in Amsterdam aus dem Kino gestiefelt und auf der Straße liegt ein abgetrennter Arm, der einem die DVD der Grindhouse-Hälfte „Death Proof“ unter die Nase reibt. Wer den Film gesehen hat, weiß ja, dass das quasi eine Anspielung auf den Film selbst ist, nur hätte das ganze mit Beinen nicht so gut funktioniert, weil die ja naturgemäß nicht so gut in der Hand halten können. Grindhouse-Marketing is the new Viral Marketing, Tarantino wäre stolz auf euch. Und sowas geht wahrscheinlich wirklich nur in Amsterdam.

Verdammtfuzz
Die Metallbox von „Hot Fuzz“ kaufen weil’s ja die schicke Metallbox ist und erst zuhause feststellen, dass die schicke Metallbox eine Doppel-DVD ist. Zusammen mit „Shaun of the Dead“. Den ich schon zweimal hierhabe. In deutsch und englisch. Und weil ich meine SD-Karte am Freitag einem Kollegen geliehen habe, musste ich mir heute eine neue kaufen, weil ich 251 Bilder vom Zombie-Walk gemacht habe. Die meisten davon furchtbar verwackelt, aber hey: its Zombie-Fucking-Action, inklusive Irokesen-Punk-Zombie vor’m Erotik-Laden. Leider befindet sich das Cam-Kabel im Büro, die Bilder und ein Bericht kommen also erst am Montag.
Bis dahin sieht mein Pre-Halloween-Wochenende so aus: Hot Fuzz, 28 Days later, Dogtown Boys, Behind the Mask, Zombies on a Plane und Die Fliege. In der Cronenberg-Version selbstverständlich.

Hicksdesign: Cover art for In Rainbows
Hinter Radioheads „In Rainbows“ steckt wohl mehr: Anscheinend ist „In Rainbows“ eine Fortsetzung von „OK Computer“
we have come to believe that OK Computer and In Rainbows were meant to complement each other. During the writing and recording process of OK Computer, Radiohead used the working title of Zeros and Ones. If OK Computer is represented by 01, and In Rainbows is represented by 10, then we have 01 and 10. In binary code 01 and 10 complement each other.
Consider that In Rainbows was meant to complement OK Computer, musically, lyrically, and in structure. We found that the two albums can be knit together beautifully. By combining the tracks to form one playlist, 01 and 10, we have a remarkable listening experience. The transitions between the songs are astounding, and it appears that this was done purposefully.

Twin Peaks Gold-Box plus Trailer: I Love ‘Twin Peaks’ and Its Gold Box
Is it necessary for a DVD box set to have a trailer? Probably not, especially if it’s for Nel Carter’s Gimme a Break. But when it’s for David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, I’m sort of glad it does.
Because this is, as the trailer will remind you several times, a gold box edition, it’s got every episode, deleted scenes and tons of never-before-seen features, including more proof that David Lynch is completely insane. (To quote him, addressing the cast as if they don’t understand English, “I… LOVE… TWIN… PEAKS… AND… ITS… WORLD.”)
Spiegelfechter: Stone Merchant – Islamophobie auf DVD
Das Thema „islamistischer Terrorismus“ wird durch Politik und Medien in den letzten Jahren zu einer allgegenwärtigen Gefahr riesigen Ausmaßes aufgebauscht – erstaunlich, dass dieses Thema im Film hauptsächlich in TV-Produktionen á la „24“ propagandistisch ausgeschlachtet wurde. Nicht etwa Hollywood, sondern Europa wagt sich als erstes aus den Schiesscharten. Der Italiener Renzo Martinelli erzählt in seinem Film „Stone Merchant – Händler des Todes“, der nächste Woche als DVD auf den deutschen Markt kommt, vom verzweifelten Kampf des wachen Europäers gegen den sinisteren Islam. Das Drehbuch wirkt dabei so, als wäre es in Gemeinschaftsarbeit im PI-Blog geschrieben worden.

Christopher Lee’s Dracula cape found in store
The original cape which was worn by actor Christopher Lee in the 1958 vampire film, Dracula, has been found in a London fancy dress store. The memorabilia, which has been missing for 30 years, is thought to be worth $50,000 (£24,410). Lee, who played the Count, was called upon to verify the cape was authentic after Angel’s staff discovered it.

The story about the image of Che Guevara
Che Guevara suddenly appeared on the stage. Korda pointed his Leica at Che and managed to make two shots of him, before Che turned around and disappeared.
Back in his darkroom Korda enlarged, among others, one of the Che frames. The editor at “Revolution” picked a Castro-picture for the newspaper and returned the rest. Korda liked the Che picture and put it on the wall in his Havana-studio.
The picture was still hanging on the wall in 1967, by now tobacco-tinted though, when a man knocked on the door. The person did not present himself, but handed over a letter of introduction from a high-ranking member of the Cuban administration. The letter asked Korda to help this person in his search for a good Che picture. Korda pointed at the wall saying: “This is my best Che picture”.

The company that rescued Amiga in 1984 was the creation of a single man. Scientists Race to Detect First Gravitational Waves

UK secondary school tests RFID embedded uniforms
Hungerhill School, a secondary school in Doncaster, South Yorkshire is running a trial that involves tagging the uniforms of pupils with RFID tags.
