3D-printed Seismogram of Tōhoku-Earthquake
Luke Jerram hat das Seismogram des Erdbebens in Japan Anfang des Jahres um 360° rotiert und das Ergebnis auf einem 3D-Printer ausgedruckt. Schöne Arbeit, gutes Konzept!
This sculpture was made to contemplate the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
To create the sculpture a seismogram of the earthquake, was rotated using computer aided design and then printed in 3 dimensions using rapid prototyping technology. The artwork measures 30cm x 20cm and represents 9 minutes of the earthquake.

In Südkorea glaubten sie zunächst an ein Erdbeben, als ein 39stöckiges Hochhaus anfing, rumzuwackeln. Und dann stellte sich heraus, dass er nur eine Tae Bo-Kampfsporttanzgruppe war, die ihre mit ihren Ärsche zu Snaps „The Power“ wackelten. Like, you know… POW!
Korean scientists think they have determined what caused a 39-story Seoul skyscraper to shake violently for 10 minutes, causing the building to be evacuated for two days.
Earthquake? Nope. Gale-force winds? Sorry. Volcanic activity? Unh-uh.
No, the culprit, they say, was 17-middle-aged gym rats working off the midriff bulge in a Tae Bo class. Apparently, while dancing and boxing to “The Power” by Snap on July 5, the exercisers not only shook their booties, they shook the building.
Massive 8.9 Earthquake, Tsunami in Japan
Heute morgen wurde Japan von einem schweren Erdbeben der Stärke 8.9 auf der Richter-Skala Momenten-Magnitude erschüttert, kurz darauf rollte ein vier Meter hoher Tsunami über die Küste. Der Livestream auf Al Jazeera zeigt derzeit eine verwüstete Küste, das Video oben zeigt die erste Welle, die ganze Landstriche mit sich reist. Derzeit wurden „nur“ Verletzte gemeldet, es wurden allerdings Tsunami-Warnungen herausgegeben für „Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. A tsunami watch has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and the U.S. state of Hawaii.“
Von der NYTimes: Northern Japan Suffers Major Tsunami Damage
In various locations along Japan’s coast, TV footage showed massive damage from the tsunami, with dozens of cars, boats and even buildings being carried along by waters. A large ship swept away by the tsunami rammed directly into a breakwater in Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture, according to footage on public broadcaster NHK.
Officials were trying to assess damage, injuries and deaths from the quake but had no immediate details.
The quake that struck at 2:46 p.m. was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks, including a 7.4-magnitude one about 30 minutes later. The U.S. Geological Survey upgraded the strength of the first quake to a magnitude 8.9, while Japan’s meteorological agency measured it at 7.9.

Erdbeben durch Brüstewackeln: Boobquake is real!
Muss man sich mal vorstellen: Letzte Woche habe ich in diesem Internetz gelesen, dass aufgrund der (ekligen, widerlichen) Sprüche eines islamischen Fundis („Many women who do not dress modestly … lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes“ [Hervorhebung von mir]) ein paar Damen diese These wissenschaftlich widerlegen und durch Brüstewackeln ein Erdbeeben heraufbeschwören wollten, um selbige Aussagen zu widerlegen: Boobquake. Fand’ ich ganz lustig, aber dann auch wieder eher so ach naja, hatte das Ding in die Links gepackt, glaube ich.
Aber genau, als ich das ganze wieder vergessen hatte, passiert zum Zeitpunkt des Tittenexperiments was? Exakt: Erdbeben in Taiwan, 6,9 auf der Richterskala. Ich brech’ zusammen!
Although Boobquake founder Jennifer McCreight, of Indiana., has claimed that the quake does not count because it happened outside her Boobquake time zone, she admitted on her blog that the wobble was significant, but not unusual.
Das chinesische Erdbeben als Comic
Coco Wang hat einige der Dramen, die sich bei den Rettungsarbeiten während des Erdbebens in China zugetragen haben, in Comic-Form nacherzählt. Das Ergebnis ist zwar nicht allzu gut gezeichnet, geht allerdings wirklich ans Herz.
