First Spiderman-Fanfilm online
Youtube Direktspidey, via MeFi
The first ever documented Spider-Man fan film, and the first (unofficial) live action appearance of Spider-Man from 1969! This was produced by Donald F. Glut and was his last amateur film (he had produced many other Marvel fan films before this) before moving on to write for classic cartoons like Transformers and Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
I love the costume (Don Glut is wearing the red and blues himself), it looks heavily inspired by Steve Ditko’s work. And notice the use of the Captain Action Spider-Man figure for web swinging and wall crawling; that goes for huge bucks now. The villain in this fan film, Dr. Lightning, is not a real Marvel character and was just created by the guy’s making the film.
Interviews with some serious Sneaker-Collectors
I can’t believe these people actually exist.
VICE: Martin, you look like you’ve been through a revolution.
Martin: I slept the night before last. At around 12PM yesterday, when they opened, it was just mayhem. Everyone charged the gate. Security, there was only two of them… I don’t know, I reckon there must have been at least 250-300 people. In the end we stayed on, a spokesperson came out and apologised. They took my picture so they could remember me for today. So will they let you in today?
I tried, but few people at the front said, “I’m not letting you in before me.” I know people who have been queueing and stuff but I was queueing the night before. I had to take care of family business, but then I came back. I even brought my son here today.Did you have a sleeping bag the night you stayed?
Nah man, I just roughed it out.You look really tired, man.
Yeah.Where did you piss?
Round the corner. Is £210 good value? Please tell me, I have no clue, I wear plastic bags on my feet.
I think so. Other people would disagree. My wife calls me crazy; my parents don’t know why I’m here.Do you hope your son feels the same way about trainers when he grows up?
To be honest no, not really.

Photographing Fan-Stereotypes

Over three years I photographed fans outside different concerts. I was fascinated by the different tribes of people that attended them, and how people emulated celebrity to form their identity. As I photographed the project I began to see how the concerts became events for people to come together with surrogate ‘families’, a chance to relive their youth or try and be part of a scene that happened before they were born.

(danke Swen!)
Photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek have worked together since October 1994. Inspired by a shared interest in the striking dress codes of various social groups, they have systematically documented numerous identities over the last 16 years. Rotterdam’s heterogeneous, multicultural street scene remains a major source of inspiration for Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek, although since 1998 they have also worked in many cities abroad.
They call their series Exactitudes: a contraction of exact and attitude. By registering their subjects in an identical framework, with similar poses and a strictly observed dress code, Versluis and Uyttenbroek provide an almost scientific, anthropological record of people’s attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity. The apparent contradiction between individuality and uniformity is, however, taken to such extremes in their arresting objective-looking photographic viewpoint and stylistic analysis that the artistic aspect clearly dominates the purely documentary element.

ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining

(Youtube Direktelf, via BoingBoing)
Sweet!
Vintage Artikel über die erste SciFi-Convention 1939
Das Time Magazine veröffentlicht grade sein Archiv online, darunter dieser tolle Artikel von 1939 über die erste SciFi-Convention in New York.
Sold at U. S. newsstands are about a dozen pulp magazines with such titles as Amazing Stories, Astounding Stones, Startling Stories, Strange Stories, Fantastic Adventures, Thrilling Wonder Stones, Unknown, Marvel Science Stories, Weird Tales. In the pulp trade they are known as “pseudo-scientifics” or “scientifiction.” This week in Manhattan this amazing group of publications produced an amazing show: a convention of their fans. […]
Scientifiction’s fans, mostly boys of 16 to 20, are the jitterbugs of the pulp magazine field. Many keep every issue, and a copy of the magazine’s first issue often fetches $25 from collectors. Publishers soon discovered another odd fact about their readers: They are exceptionally articulate. Most of these magazines have letters columns, in which readers appraise stories. Sample: “Gosh! Wow! Boyoh-boy!, and so forth and so on. Yesiree, yesiree, it’s the greatest in the land and the best that’s on the stand, and I do mean THRILLING WONDER STORIES, and especially that great, magnificent, glorious, most thrilling June issue of the mosta and the besta of science fiction magazines. . . .” […]

Radiohead For Haiti: Fan-created, pay-what-you-want Charity-DVD + Torrent

In anderen Worten: AWESOME!
Von Torrentfreak:
In January 2010, Radiohead performed at the Haiti Relief concert at the Henry Ford theater in Los Angeles and the event was filmed and its audio recorded, not by the band or show organizers, but by their fans.
Understandably, that footage went on to be scattered far and wide but thanks to the work of three fans – inez, formengr, andrea – the video and audio has been painstakingly collated to make a two DVD set of the event, which was limited on the day to just 1,400 people present. The trio then decided to make the work available on the Internet for the masses, but supported by a great idea to help those in need.
Tracklist:
Faust Arp, Fake Plastic Trees, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, National Anthem, Nude, Karma Police, Kid A, Morning Bell, How to disappear completely, A Wolf at the Door, The Bends, Reckoner, Lucky, Bodysnatchers, Dollars & Cents, Airbag, Exit Music, Everything in it’s right Place, You and whose Army?, Pyramid Song, All I need, Lotus Flower, Paranoid Android, Street Spirit (Fade Out)

I’m the Freeman: Fanmade Halflife 2-Movietrailer
(Youtube Direktfreeman, via Ectomo)
Teaser zu einem Trailer zu einem fanmade CGI-Kurzfilm von Marco Spitoni basierend auf Halflife, der nie wirklich kommen wird: „at the end there won’t be any short movie, just a trailer which it will be a lot longer, packed with more contents and telling a little bit about the story.“
Fanmade Radiohead-Live-DVD (Update)
(Youtube Direktradiohead, via Testspiel)
On August 23rd 2009, a group of Radiohead fans descended on the Výstaviště Holešovice Exhibition Hall in Prague on a mission to capture the band playing using as many different angles as possible. Bringing together the exceptional talents of many contributors, here’s the result.
The War Of The Stars: A New Hope Grindhous’d

This is a “grindhouse” version of George Lucas’s Star Wars (episode 4 A New Hope). Some of the deleted scenes, alternate takes and behind the scene footage are now back in the movie.
New music. New special effects. Key scenes have been reorganized.Original runtime: 124 minutes
Fanedit release date: January 2010
New runtime: 97 minutes
Amount of time cut/added: 43 minutes cut / 16 minutes added
