Ende letzten Jahren hatte ich den Trailer zum Konzertfilm Freak Night der Flaming Lips gebloggt, den gab es dann 24 Stunden lang als Stream zu sehen und jetzt haben sie ihn komplett bei Vimeo online gestellt. Kleine Warnung: Der Film beginnt mit einem Loch im Bein von Wayne Coyne und Blut und riesigen, flashy Vaginas, aber das kennt man ja von den Lips. Party! Death! Love! Do you realize?

Flaming Lips sell a 24hr-Song in a Human Skull, stream it Tonight

Meine Lieblingsspinner (ich hab’ mehrere Lieblingsspinner und Lieblingsspinner kann man sowieso gar nicht genug haben), jedenfalls: Meine Lieblingsspinner The Flaming Lips haben Anfang Herbst einen sechsstündigen Song aufgenommen, den man hier auf Soundcloud in drei Teilen streamen kann, im Video oben erzählt Wayne Coyne ein bisschen was dazu.
Dann haben sie einen 24stündigen Song aufgenommen und der wird heute ab 0 Uhr nachts Ortszeit (bei uns 6 Uhr morgens) auf der Website Flaminglipstwentyfourhoursong.com gestreamt. Außerdem wird er gleichzeitig über ihren Shop verkauft (ist dort noch nicht zu sehen), und zwar auf einer Festplatte in einem echten Totenschädel mit Chromzeugs obendrauf für 5000$, limitiert auf 13 Stück.
Und weil man niemals zuviel Lips auf dem Blog haben kann und sie dieses Jahr aus Zeitgründen leider den jährlich zu Halloween stattfindenden March of 1000 Skulls absagen mussten, hier noch zwei Clips dazu (die hatte ich aber beide schon letztes Jahr).
In einem Interview auf Pitchfork erzählt Coyne ein wenig über die Multihour-Songs, über ihre Gummibärchenskulls, psychedelische Candyfrogs und Skulls mit Vaginas.
Pitchfork: What sort of new odd products do you have in the works?
Wayne Coyne: The guy we know who has the gummy factory is so insane. We have an edible, psychedelic frog coming out. It’s a clear frog that you can pour psychedelic dust on and then lick it– it’s going to be a pretty good one. And we’re going to make a skull that has an actual vaginal fucking thing stuck to the back of it– you have to reach into it to get the USB.Pitchfork: You can sell that at a sex shop.
WC: Well, I don’t want it to be too tied up with dicks and dildos and stuff but, I mean, yeah! Everything is possible. […]Pitchfork: What’s the deal with this 24-hour song inside of a human skull?
WC: It’s a pretty exotic art object. This guy in Oklahoma City has a place called Skulls Unlimited where you can actually buy human skulls– there are real human heads in there with the skin getting taken off of them. It’s absurd. So we’re putting the hard drive inside these human skulls that we’re going to sell on Halloween. Only 13 of them are being made and they’re $5,000 a piece.

Die Lips haben vor einer Weile schon Gummibärchen-Skulls mit USB-Stick verkauft, jetzt haben sie drei Songs auf einen Stick in einem Gummibärchenfetus gebacken. Sweet! Alle drei Tracks nach dem Klick, die lecker Föten sollte es irgendwann bald im Onlineshop der Flaming Lips zu kaufen geben.

Flaming Lips New Years Eve Freakout 2011
Ich liebe alles, auf dem der Name Flaming Lips steht und alleine die Ankündung oben zu ihrem New Year’s Eve FREAKOUT 2011, nach Mitternacht „The Soft Bulletin“ komplett zu spielen, macht mich neidisch auf jeden Einwohner von Oklahoma City. Narf. Mehr neues von den Lips 2011 von Rolling Stone:
Frontman Wayne Coyne tells Rolling Stone that the band will hit the studio soon and plans to release new songs every month, while filming the entire process.
“We’ll start in late January, though I’m not sure if we’ll get together exactly by then,” Coyne says, adding that the band will convene in Oklahoma with longtime producer Dave Fridmann. “With this new thing, we’re going to spend a lot of time recording at our houses or wherever we are at. We’ll try to release a song a month and document the song in the making, whether it takes us three or five days or a week. It’s gonna be, ‘We’re working on a song and it’s gonna be up by Friday.’ We just want to [release material] some other way.”

Wired.com: Are you excited about the March? It’s taking off.
Wayne Coyne: Yeah, we did it last year as an experiment in public performance-art bullshit, in conjunction with Oklahoma City, which was trying to do something for the community. Previous to this, Halloween was always balked at by the religious people around here, always played down. When we were thinking about the parade a few years ago, the city was like, “You’ll be the biggest attraction in it, right?” So we said, well, damn, OK. So I proposed the March, the fire marshal and everyone else got involved, and it went off last year without any trouble. Meaning, no one got burned alive.
Wired.com: That’s as good a measure of success as any.
Wayne Coyne: It can be a big worry when you have that many people and fire in one place. You never know what is going to happen, but it all seemed to work. Five or six years down the line, we’ll have built it up to around 10,000 people. We’ll ask everybody to get in and grab a torch. And not kill anybody.

Wayne Coyne von den Flaming Lips hat ein Poster mit seinem Blut gedruckt. Die Idee ist nicht neu und hatte ich hier schonmal, aber es sind die fucking Lips und warum die fucking Lips immer eine Erwähnung wert sind, sieht man zum Beispiel in den folgenden beiden Videos, das erste ist ein Promo für den vierten March of 1000 Flaming Skeletons, das zweite der Clip zu „She don’t use Jelly“.
Wären wir alle ein bisschen wie Wayne Coyne, wäre die Welt ein besserer Ort. I mean it.

Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne im Outdoor-Bad auf Google Streetview
Wayne Coyne stieg an Halloween 2007 in einem Garten in eine Badewanne und selbstverständlich fuhr damals genau in dem Moment eins von Googles Streetview-Autos vorbei, sowas wie Google Street View Sightings, nur mit den Flaming Lips (also gleich mal 200x besser). Ich habe allerdings keine Ahnung, if he did realize und Wackelpudding hat er wahrscheinlich auch keinen benutzt (for those who know).

Wayne Coyne von den Flaming Lips stellt in diesem Video das neueste Goodie aus dem Hause der Acid-Rocker from outer Space vor: einen silbernen Fötus für den Weihnachtsbaum. WTF?! Sowas kann auch nur jemandem einfallen, der auf der Bühne in Tierkostümen rumrennt, sich mit Kunstblut beschmiert und dazu grandiosen Pop kredenzt. Hier kann man den Weihnachtsfötus vorbestellen.
