Über Brutal Knitting (Facebook) hatte ich vor ein paar Monaten erst gebloggt, jetzt haben sie diesen abgerissenen Monsterkopf gehäkelt, bei dem die Eingeweide unten rausbaumeln. Awesome!
3D-printed Blood Vessels
Wissenschaftler am Fraunhofer Institut haben 3D-Printing und 2-Photonen-Polymerisation kombiniert, und damit künstliche Venen und Arterien gedruckt. Die sind nötig, um künstliche, gezüchtete Organe aus dem Labor an Patienten „anzuschließen“. Und sie kommen wohl demnächst aus einem 3D-Drucker. Welcome to the Future.
Until now, the stumbling block in tissue engineering has been supplying artificial tissue with nutrients that have to arrive via capillary vessels. A team at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany has solved that problem using 3D printing and a technique called multiphoton polymerisation. […]
To print something as small and complex as a blood vessel, the scientists combined the 3D printing technology with two-photon polymerisation – shining intense laser beams onto the material to stimulate the molecules in a very small focus point. The material then becomes an elastic solid, allowing the researchers to create highly precise and elastic structures that would be able to interact with a human body’s natural tissue.

Social Network für Leute mit derselben Darmflora
Ein Social Network, in dem man eine Stuhlprobe einschickt, die dann analysiert wird und Leute zusammenbringt, die die gleiche Darmflora haben. Kein Witz. Die Analyse kostet 2100$ und ich wär’ gern Madonnas Dickdarm, weil dann wär’ ich immer satt. Von New Scientist:
There’s yet another social network on the internet – but this one pairs users up with people who share the same intestinal bacteria.
The new site, MyMicrobes, has been set up by researchers from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, and aims to bring together individuals with the same gut flora so that they can share questions and concerns about their digestive health. As you might imagine, it looks set to be a rather niche network – and one that requires a little more than the usual email address and password to join.

Organ Donor Vinyl Toys
Street Anatomy hat eine frische Serie der limitierten Organ-Toys von David Foox in ihrem Shop, über die ich schonmal vor ein paar Jahren gebloggt hatte. Die Dinger dürften extrem schnell ausverkauft sein, also haut rein. Vor allem super: Die Schwarzmarkt-Niere und die Raucherlunge. Kann man auch direkt auf der Website des Künstlers bestellen: „David created these vinyls in order to promote organ donation. All ORGAN DONORS come individually boxed in a blind box concept—meaning, it is a surprise as to which ORGAN DONOR you will receive! Some are more rare than others (Black Market Kidneys, Pickled Liver, etc) and all come wearing the vinyl hospital gown with the butt cheeks showing.“
Guts’n'Cloth floating in the River Thames
Schicke Fotoserie der australischen Fotografin Helen Pynor, die menschliche Innereien in Klamotten abgelichtet hat, welche in der Themse treiben. Die ganze Fotoserie gibt’s bei Designboom.
The unlikely starting point for this body of work was research Pynor undertook into incidents of accidental drowning in the Thames, inspired by her first year in London in 2009-2010 which was spent working by the river. Beguiled by the river’s shifting tides and lethal currents, she researched some of the thousands of recorded cases of accidental drowning in the river, from incidents involving hundreds of victims drowned in mass disasters through to those in which a lone victim met their end.
A highlight of the exhibition will be Liquid Ground, a series of sumptuously produced, large-scale photographic images which depict languid, water-buoyed garments with bodily organs drifting out through diaphanous openings. Pynor shakes her audience by adding unexpected references to the individual histories of the organs she depicts, transforming anonymous representations of the body’s interior into those replete with the richness of personal and cultural story.

Das Motiv oben ist nicht wirklich typisch für die Fotografie von Todd Baxter, aber es ist typisch für dieses Blog. Aber der Mann hat auch ansonsten ein paar wirklich starke Bilder am Start, sehr expressionistisch mit viel Gefühl für Raumspannung und meistens viel, viel subtiler als obige Innereien-Party. Arsch-Bar
Eine Arsch-Bar. Eine Bar, die wie ein Arsch aussieht. Also nicht auf so eine Höhö-Art mit Backen, sondern anatomisch korrekt von Zunge über Speiseröhre über das Darmsystem bis hin zum Anus. Eine Arsch-Bar!
BarRectum, Arsch Bar, Asshole Bar, Bar Anus. While the translations sound different, the form is universally recognizable. The bar takes its shape from the human digestive system: starting with the tongue, continuing to the stomach, moving through the small and the large intestines and exiting through the anus. While BarRectum is anatomically correct, the last part of the large intestine has been inflated to a humongous size to hold as many drinking customers at the bar as possible. The anus itself is part of a large door that doubles as an emergency exit.

Das Animationsstudio Hybrid, das sich auf animierte, medizinische Illustrationen spezialisiert hat, ist mir zum ersten mal vor anderthalb Jahren aufgefallen, damals mit ihrem schlagenden Herz aus Glas. Veronika Fillippova hat ein sehr schönes Plush-Gen-Heart-Puzzle gebastelt, um Kids spielerisch Genetik und Anatomie beizubringen. Ist nur ein Prototyp, aber dafür sehr schön!
This is a puzzle-toy, which consist of different parts of human heart. Each part of this toy is marked by special letter from DNA combination GATC and simulate natural view of human organ. It is for curious people, such as children or adults. The idea is to show, how scientific games could create the difference. Actually it is not games, cause with the help of Genetic Engineering we could grow new organs or change their structure. I designed the toy it self and also packaging with instruction and stickers.

Splatter Papercraft-Artwork
Dieses beeindruckende und sehr – vielleicht sogar extrem – im Dekonstruktivismus verhaftete Kunstwerk von Tom Friedman aus dem Jahr 2000 trägt den gnadenlos kontrastierenden Titel „Untitled“, die Beschreibung beschreibt allerdings genau das, was man auf dem Bild oben sieht (was ja so ganz allgemein als die Aufgabe von Beschreibungen angesehen wird):
