As a child of the 80′s I was heavily influenced by everything from saturday morning cartoons on TV to the music coming from the radio. Ian Curtis or Johnny Rotten are as iconic to me as Superman or Batman. Real people or imaginary characters, the incorruptible ideals of perfect superheroes or the human flaws and desires sometimes so desperately depicted in song lyrics – all of those influences affect us to the point of defining our character and personality, career paths and life choices.

Paul Thomas Anderson-Prints
Mondotees haut am Donnerstag ein paar schöne Prints zu den Filmen von Paul Thomas Anderson raus, die ich (fast) allesamt fantastisch finde. Nur Hard Eight habe ich nie gesehen und Punch Drunk Love halte ich für überbewerteten Müll – und ganz dem entsprechend ist auch das Poster hier das schwächste –, was umso erstaunlicher ist, wenn man bedenkt, dass ich Boogie Nights, Magnolia und There Will Be Blood allesamt für Meisterwerke halte. Einen Print zu The Master hatten sie bereits bei ihrer Oscar 2013-Posterserie am Start und hier kann ich mich beim besten Willen nicht entscheiden, ob ich Blood oder Boogie besser finden soll. Anime Backgrounds
Vor ein paar hundert Jahren machte das Blog Animation Backgrounds die Runde, auf dem Rob Richards Hintergründe aus (amerikanischen) Cartoons und Zeichentrickfilmen sammelte und teilweise zu großen Collagen zusammenstückelte. Anime Backgrounds macht dasselbe, aber mit Zeichentrick aus Japan. Aus Akira, Paprika und Ghost In The Shell 2 hätte ich mir mehr Backgrounds gewünscht, aber da kommt vielleicht noch ein bisschen was.
This blog, inspired by the famous Animation Backgrounds blog, will be a place to appreciate and be inspired by the amazing background art in animation. I feel like there are lots of blogs dedicated to the art of western animation, so this blog will be “mainly” focused on Japanese and non-western animation. All artwork is captured from the actual films, with characters edited out, and some digitally stitched together through taking multiple screenshots.

This poster pays tribute to Star Wars and the iconic Kenner card back from the 80′s. This one in particular is the “92 card back” which covered the entire basic figure assortment. While Yak Face was never included in the lineup, I threw him in there for good measure.

Silhouette Masterpiece Theater
Das Silhouette Masterpiece Theater ging schonmal vor einer ganzen Weile rum, vor allem wegen des Victorian DeLorian damals. Seitdem hat „Wilhelm Staehle“ („a horribly disfigured gentleman who often frightens small children when passing“) den Dingern eine neue Website verpasst und jede Menge neuer toller Silhouetten gepostet.
Bie „Ouch! Ouch! My Feelings!“ muss ich ja unkontrolliert giggeln, aber der Rest ist auch sehr schick und „I’m ready for the Shitstorm“ sollte eigentlich in Büros von PR-Agenturen und Politikern zur Grundausstattung gehören. So als Internet-Survival-Kit, oder sowas.
