Keng Lyes 3D-painted Octopus

Carmine Infantino R.I.P.
Carmine Infantino, Legende unter den Comic-Zeichnern, ist vergangene Woche im Alter von 87 Jahren gestorben. Die Karriere von Infantino begann im Golden Age, am bekanntesten war er allerdings für sein Redesign des Flashs (einer meiner Lieblingsfiguren im DC-Verse) und von Batman, die zu einem Superhelden-Revival führten und das Silver Age einläuteten und letztlich auch für den Launch des nicht unwichtigen Verlags Marvel Anfang der 60er führte. R.I.P.
It was Infantino whose redesign of The Flash in 1956 brought such a new, super-sleek line and a sense of science-fiction to the superhero. So much so that we still class this point as the start of the “Silver-Age” of comics, a move away from the tired and stuffy comics of the 40s, a shift towards the future.
And it was Infantino’s incredible design sense that came up with so many iconic and memorable images, especially on covers, where his skills seemed without match. He was responsible, either as artist or designer, for so many iconic covers, especially at DC in the late 60s when his role as DC Editorial Director included designing for the entire line.
But his design and artistic skills are only part of the legacy. Infantino’s time at DC was a time of great innovation, of introducing new artists (Neal Adams, Denny O’Neil), bringing Jack Kirby over from Marvel and giving him license to create his Fourth World saga, and of revitalising old characters.
His career at DC culminated as publisher from ’71 to ’76, after which Infantino returned to art, producing fondly remembered runs on Star Wars, Spiderwoman, and a second run on The Flash. He retired in the 90s.

Brad McGinty kennt Ihr, seine Gremlins- und Alien-Anatomie-Shirts gehen so alle halbe Jahre immer wieder durchs Netz und vor zwei Jahren hatte ich auch mal seine Nikolaus-Godzilla-Weihnachtskarten mit Fake-Story dazu. Jetzt hat er sich etwas ähnliches einfallen lassen und hat die fiktive Gorp-Kaugummi-Fabrik gekauft, angeblich ‘ne olle Marke für Monster-Blubblegum aus den 50ern mit irrer Story. Da verkauft er jetzt tolle Shirts und Prints und sowas. Sehr schick, alles, kommt sogar mit Fake-Vintage Commercial:

Originally created as a treatment for motion sickness in German fighter pilots, this medicinal wonder gum was brought “kicking and screaming” to US shores by brave American soldiers during a German U-boat attack in 1942. It was there, on a fiery bombed out German ship, hidden beneath a pile of Kohl Moder (fermented cabbage bread), that they found a cowardly German scientist by the name of Magnus Von Tiesenhausen, along with his two prized German Sheppards, Keinvetizienz, and Schreckschraubeflammenwerfer.

Ich hatte keine Ahnung, dass Maiden für ein paar Singles ihres letzten Albums Comic-Cover im Stil der 50er EC-Comics zeichnen ließen. Sehr schön, nach dem Klick noch ein weiteres Cover in HighRes! Drive Soundtrack on Vinyl (2)
Gestern hat Mondotees den Drive Soundtrack auf Vinyl mit Tyler Stout-Artwork innerhalb einer halben Stunde ausverkauft und ich hab’s verpasst und schau mir jetzt noch ein bisschen diese Bilder an und weine leise in mich hinein. Auf Ebay geht das Teil in pinkem Vinyl jetzt schon für mindestens 100$ über’n Tisch. Narf.

Tolle Kampagne eines neuseeländischen Stromproduzenten mit Mao Gangnam Style, Thatcher auf Psyllos und dem Papst als Vermähler schwuler Pärchen. Hervorragende Illustrationen und ich liebe die Farben! Dürfte auch nicht viel mit greenwashing zu tun haben, der Laden hat laut Wikipedia einen ziemlich guten Ruf.

Fantastic early Mickey Mouse-Illustrations
Großartige Mickey Mouse-Illus von Walt Disney aus dem Jahr 1935, angefertigt für die damalige Prinzessin Elizabeth, die jetzige Queen. Mickey Mouse hatte ihren ersten Auftritt in Farbe drei Jahre vorher im Cartoon Parade of the Award Nominees.
Created specially for then Princess Elizabeth, now Queen, way back in 1935, this art of Mickey and friends, charming and cheerful as they spend time in London, appeared in The Princess Elizabeth Gift Book, In Aid of the Princess Elizabeth of York Hospital for Children.
Donald is still pretty primitive in appearance, Goofy is still Dippy Dawg, the Limeys are loopy—and this is definitely the mouse’s finest era. Note how Horace is demonstrating the royal backhand wave.

Sehr schicker Print von Martin Ansin, die Poster wird es leider nur auf zwei Taxi Driver-Screenings vom Alamo Drafthouse zu kaufen geben. Fast noch interessanter: Die schauen dort eine „4K digital restoration of TAXI DRIVER (that was supervised by Scorsese)“. Whoa! Eine 4k-Version von Taxi Driver würde ich echt gerne sehen.
Wally Woods Disneyland Orgy on 2 Skate Decks
Boom Art verkaufen zwei Skate Decks mit Wally Wood-Print (via AnimalNY) in einer schicken Holzbox. Und zwar nicht irgendein Print, sondern seine Disney-Orgie aus dem 60er Underground-Mag The Realist, die Ausgabe kann man komplett hier online lesen (Vorher auf Nerdcore: The Realist: Underground Satire-Mag aus den 60s online!)
Die Background-Story von Paul Krassner (auf dessen Website man einen Print der Orgie kaufen kann, den gibt’s kostenlos zu den Decks, glaube ich), dem Verleger von The Realist, auf dem Blog von Boom Art hat alles, was so ‘ne richtige Disney-Orgie braucht: Magic Mushrooms, fickende Cartoon-Charaktere und eine strippende Tinker Bell. Toll, alles!

Pluto is pissing on a portrait of Mickey Mouse, while the real, bedraggled Mickey is shooting up heroin with a hypodermic needle. His nephews are jerking off as they watch a combination bed and cash register where Minnie Mouse is fucking Goofy. The beams shining out from the Magic Castle are actually dollar signs. Dumbo the elephant is simultaneously flying and shitting on an infuriated Donald Duck. Huey, Dewey and Louie are ogling Daisy Duck’s asshole as she watches the Seven Dwarves groping Snow White. The Prince is snatching a peek at Cinderella’s snatch while trying a glass slipper on her foot. The Three Little Pigs are humping each other in a daisy chain. Jiminy Cricket is leering as Tinker Bell does a striptease and Pinocchio’s nose gets longer and longer.
