Japanese Dragonball Z-Meme

Dragonball Z-Meme im japanischen Twitterland, Manga-Moves per Instagram oder so.

Numerous Japanese teens, it seems, are uploading photos of themselves doing the Kamehameha attack from popular manga and anime series Dragon Ball. Many of the photos […] were uploaded to Twitter within the last week or so. On Twitter, Japanese teens are saying that this is how they’ve recently been goofing off with friends.

During the 1980s, when the Dragon Ball anime was on primetime television, kids would unleash Kamehameha attacks on each for fun at school or in the park. The difference here is that teens these days can snap digital photos and upload them for instant internet fame.

Japanese Lucha Libre Politician

In Japan haben sie dem Politiker Skull Reaper A-ji den Zutritt zu Sitzungen verweigert, solange er seine Lucha Libre-Maske aufhat. Schade.

Skull Reaper A-ji won just 2,828 votes in the election, campaigning on a platform demanding educational reform and improved social welfare facilities, but that was sufficient for him to take a seat in the city council. But even before he could attend his first meeting, other councillors suggested that it was inappropriate for a member of the assembly to wear a mask to conceal their identity.

But 44-year-old Skull Reaper A-ji resisted their requests that he remove his trademark item of clothing, a red-and-black leather mask similar to the “lucha libre” masks affected by wrestlers in Mexico. “People find it easy to come up and talk to me because I have a mask on,” he told the Nishinippon Shimbun, adding that he has done a lot for the community for more than a decade, including visiting institutions for people with physical disabilities.

Japanese Elderly should „hurry up and die“

Ansage vom japanischen Finanzminister: Die Rentner sollen sich mit dem Sterben doch mal bitte ein bisschen beeilen. Ich wiederhole mich: Als Politiker braucht man echt ein besonderes Talent für Arschlochism.

Japan’s new government is barely a month old, and already one of its most senior members has insulted tens of millions of voters by suggesting that the elderly are an unnecessary drain on the country’s finances.

Taro Aso, the finance minister, said on Monday that the elderly should be allowed to “hurry up and die” to relieve pressure on the state to pay for their medical care.

Underwarter Bonsai

Botanical artist Makoto Azuma has been perennially experimenting with bonsai in search of new ways of viewing one of Japan’s oldest art forms. His latest endeavor is to recreate a sustainable bonsai within an underwater environment.

Deadwood is garnished with java moss to resemble leaves, and then secured within a clear, minimal aquarium. And to recreate the natural cycles that exist within nature, LED lights and CO2 emissions within the tank help stimulate photosynthesis. Finally, a filtration system keeps the water free of bacteria and other organisms.

7 Lessons from the Yakuza

 Youtube Direktyakuza, via Sean Bonner

Jake Adelstein, der in den letzten 19 Jahren in Japan mit den Yakuza rumgehangen hat, spricht auf der TED-Konferenz über die Dinge, die er dort gelernt hat: „Investigative Journalist and author Jake Adelstein shares his eye-opening and often eyebrow-raising insights as he leads us through his experiences with both the Yakuza and the police while reporting on crime in Japan for the last nineteen years.“

The seven lessons:
1. Know the difference between hearing and listening, and learn to listen to people.
2. Repay the kindness bestowed upon you, keep your code, all is good.
3. There are no small promises. A man’s promise should weigh more than his life.
4. It’s okay to be betrayed, just don’t be the betrayer. Betray others and you betray yourself. You won’t be able to trust anyone.
5. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. You can tell more about a man by his enemies than you can by his friends. A man with no enemies is worthless.
6. In life we only encounter the injustices we are meant to correct.
7. If you want to live well you have to die once.
