Über Brutal Knitting (Facebook) hatte ich vor ein paar Monaten erst gebloggt, jetzt haben sie diesen abgerissenen Monsterkopf gehäkelt, bei dem die Eingeweide unten rausbaumeln. Awesome!

Schöner Clip über Fabienne Serrières gehackte Strickmaschine. Ab circa Minute Fünf wird’s Strick-Mindfuck mit Stephan Wolframs Eindimensionalen Cellular Automatons als Strickmuster und sowas. Im Artikel zum Video haben sie unter anderem auch den rekursiven Bill Cosby-Sweater gepostet, den ich letztes Jahr gebloggt hatte.
Once upon a time, there was a warm, fuzzy hack. It was 2010 – Becky Stern and Lada Ada (Limor Fried) built on Steve Conklin’s disk emulator and knitting machine resources to allow their modern computers to work with the ancient microcontroller of a 1980s knitting machine. This meant that they could now knit designs made with modern tools, too complex or tedious to easily knit by hand. They shared their work with the world and since then, following an open hardware model, they and many others have contributed hardware and software improvements, smoothed the workflow, and allowed other models of knitting machine to be hacked.

Eadweard J. Muybridges Animationen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert kennt Ihr, am bekanntesten ist sein „Horse in Motion“ (GIF rechts). Das hat Leah B. Thibault jetzt als Zoetrope-Mütze gehäkelt. Großartig!

Ben Cuevas’ knitted Meditation-Skeletton
Ben Cuevas gestricktes Skelett, das meditierend auf einer Pyramide aus Kondensmilch-Dosen sitzt und dabei umgeben ist von rumhängenden Anatomie-Prints, hatte ich letzte Woche schon gesehen. Da hatte ich aber aus mir nicht näher bekannten Gründen keine Lust auf ein gestricktes Skelett, das meditierend auf einer Pyramide aus Kondensmilch-Dosen sitzt und dabei umgeben ist von rumhängenden Anatomie-Prints. The installation piece Ben Cuevas chose to showcase at The Wassaic Project features a knitted skeleton seated atop a pyramid of Borden’s condensed milk cans and a cloud of screen prints on Plexi glass suspended above it. The knitted skeleton is seated in the lotus position. The prints are of disembodied anatomical parts photographed in high resolution with diagrammatic illustrative overlays. Ben conceives of the piece as a reference to material culture and Wassaic’s local history (The Borden Company had a condensed milk factory in Wassaic) and a meditation on transcendence.

All of my work is created using recycled electrical wire that I salvage from scrap electrical goods (tv sets / slot machines etc.)

Der gehäkelte Anatomie-Frosch
Das Auseinandernehmen von Fröschen im Biologie-Unterricht ist in Deutschland nicht sehr verbreitet, glaube ich. Zumindest musste ich nie einen der grünen Hüpfer sezieren, aber man kennt das ja, aus „E.T.“ beispielsweise. Die gehäkelte Froschversion erscheint mir allerdings weitaus tierfreundlicher, als die herkömmliche tödliche Methode. Nur auf Froschschenkel fürs Abendessen muss man damit verzichten.

He comes pinned into his wooden 8 x 10 inch frame, but he is not glued down, so you can take him out and cuddle him if you wish. The backing material for this frog is matte black.
