Kung Fu Nuns from Himalaya teach Cosmic Energy at CERNs LHC
Die Meldung muss man sich bildlich vorstellen und die Headline ist sowieso gold:
A dozen kung fu nuns from an Asian Buddhist order displayed their martial arts prowess to bemused scientists at CERN this week as their spiritual leader explained how their energy was like that of the cosmos. The nuns, all from the Himalayan region, struck poses of hand-chops, high-kicks and punches on Thursday while touring the research centre where physicists at the frontiers of science are probing the origins of the universe.
“Men and women carry different energy,” said His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, a monk who ranks only slightly below the Dalai Lama in the global Buddhist hierarchy. “Both male and female energies are needed to better the world.” This, he said, was a scientific principle “as fundamental as the relationship between the sun and the moon” and its importance was similar to that of the particle collisions in CERN’s vast “Big Bang” machine, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

Pencil Nunchakus
Dalton M. Ghettis Miniatur-Schnitzereien auf Bleistiftspitzen fand ich bis jetzt immer nur so mittelnett, aber diese Bleistift-„Nunchakus“ sind super! Er nennt das Ding zwar „Chain“ und hätte für ‘nen „richtigen“ Nunchaku auch die beiden Spitzen aneinanderketten müssen und hatte wahrscheinlich irgendwas anderes als ein Nunchaku im Sinn, is’ mir aber wurscht. Jinichi Kawakami ist der 21. Chefboss des Ban-Ninja Clans und wird keine weiteren Auszubildenden annehmen, weshalb nach ihm zumindest seine Linie der Ninja, die bis ins 16. Jahrhundert zurückreicht, aufhören wird zu existieren. The last Ninja.
As the 21st head of the Ban clan, a line of ninja that can trace its history back some 500 years, Kawakami is considered by some to be the last living guardian of the nation’s feudal spies. “I think I’m called (the last ninja) as there is probably no other person who learned all the skills that were directly” handed down from ninja masters over the last five centuries, he said.
“Ninja proper no longer exist,” he said as he demonstrated the tools and techniques used in espionage and sabotage by men fighting for their samurai lords in the feudal days of yesteryear. Nowadays they are confined to fiction or used to promote Iga, a mountain-shrouded city near the ancient capital of Kyoto that was once home to many ninja.

Hong Kong Airlines trainiert seine Flugbegleiter in Wing Chun („chin. 詠春 / 咏春, yǒng chūn, kant. wing chun ‘Ode an den Frühling’, bisweilen auch als schöner Frühling übersetzt“, Wikipedia), einer Variante des Kung Fu. Hier ein Video der Damen beim Training, hier ihre Basis-Moves:
1 A flight attendant could use the chi sau (“sticky hands”) technique to prevent a passenger from hitting him. “The idea,” Phillips explains, “is to block and control a person’s arms by linking your arms with theirs.”
2 Next, split the assailant’s arms. Here, the flight attendant raises his left arm, and makes contact with his opponent’s chest, while holding back the arm with his right hand.
3 The flight attendant now traps the assailant’s arms, leaving his right arm free to land a restraining punch. Though, as Phillips points out, “It wouldn’t be a very good idea for a cabin crew member to hit a passenger.”
