Numerous Japanese teens, it seems, are uploading photos of themselves doing the Kamehameha attack from popular manga and anime series Dragon Ball. Many of the photos […] were uploaded to Twitter within the last week or so. On Twitter, Japanese teens are saying that this is how they’ve recently been goofing off with friends.
During the 1980s, when the Dragon Ball anime was on primetime television, kids would unleash Kamehameha attacks on each for fun at school or in the park. The difference here is that teens these days can snap digital photos and upload them for instant internet fame.

Auf Yahoo Japan gibt’s ein 14seitiges Preview auf das Steve Jobs-Manga, über das ich vor ein paar Wochen gebloggt hatte. Das Teil ist natürlich auf Japanisch und liest sich von rechts nach links, ich hab’ das mal in die „richtige“ Reihenfolge gebracht, übersetzen müsst Ihr allerdings selber:
Japanese manga publishing house Kodansha released the first images of “Steve Jobs,” which were subsequently posted to Yahoo Japan’s online bookstore, as the title’s first chapter hit store shelves today in the April issue of the company’s Kiss magazine, reports blog Crunchyroll. Interestingly, Kiss is a monthly Josei manga serial, or a publication targeting the young adult to adult female demographic.
Reportedly recognized as the official adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography, the comic is being penned by noted manga artist and winner of the Manga Taishō and a Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, Mari Yamazaki.

Mari Yamazaki, eine ziemlich bekannte Manga-Autorin aus Chicago, wird ‘ne Manga-Adaption von Steve Jobs Biographie schreiben, die im Kiss-Magazine in Japan veröffentlicht wird. Es gab vor rund einem Jahr schonmal einen Steve Jobs-Manga, der den Apple Gründer als Mädchen zeichnete. Mit ein bisschen Glück wird das hier genauso strange.
Mari Yamazaki, of Thermae Romae fame – will be tackling a manga edition of the biography of “that” entrepreneur – Steve Jobs, deceased founder of Apple.
The manga will be an adaptation of the Japanese edition of “Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography,” an official biography based on interviews with Jobs and published in 2011 with his blessing. The manga will begin serialisation in the May edition of Kodansha’s “Kiss” magazine, according to their official Twitter account.

Happy 30th, Akira!
Heute vor 30 Jahren erschien im Young Magazine der erste Teil von Katsuhiro Otomos Akira, der mit diesem Comic einen Meilenstein der Literatur und des Cyberpunk gleichermaßen hinlegte und den japanischen Manga im Westen zum Durchbruch verhalf. Ich entdeckte Akira für mich Mitte der Neunziger, zunächst durch die Verfilmung und schließlich kaufte ich mir alle Sammelbände, die ich mindestens dreimal komplett gelesen habe. Danach hatte ich eine ziemlich kurze, aber heftige Manga- und Anime-Phase und an meiner Liebe zu Japan ist praktisch nur Akira schuld. Danke, Otomo!

Im japanischen Tech-Magazin Ascii haben sie eine wöchentliche Mangaserie um Googles Android namens „Hana no Andoroido Gakuen“ (Sweet Android High-school). Die Charaktere im Comic stelle, verschiedene Hersteller von Handys dar: Moto-Laura-chan (Motorola), Sam-Sung-chan (Samsung), H-T-Syee-chan (HTC), Elle-G-chan (LG) oder Soni-Eri-chan (Sony Ericsson). Der Lehrer der High School ist Mr. Google und nachdem die Motorola kauften, haben sie den Lehrer kurzerhand mit der Schülerin Moto-Laura-chan verheiratet. Außerdem hat Apple-Kun ständig Ärger mit Sam-Sung-chan. Only in Japan.

“-chan” is a Japanese post-nominal title used for young, tiny or small person. “-kun” is similar but for boys, so her Apple is described as a boy, who goes to another high-school at next, and has quarrel with Sam-Sung-chan.

Mr. Google even married with Moto-Laura-chan but as the teacher has a policy not to give precedence to her, everyone tends to forget that the two are in marriage.

Nettes Video der Cosplayer auf der DragonCon 2011. Ich glaube ja, Cosplay wird mal, was die Schlaghosen und VoKuHiLas aus den 70ern heute sind und schon in ein paar Jahren werden wir uns gegenseitig auslachen für den Blödsinn. Aber bis dahin noch ein Clip vom Connichi 2011 Cosplay Festival in Kassel nach dem Klick. Der Unterschied zwischen den zwei Videos ist offensichtlich, man kann ihn tatsächlich aufschneiden und mit ein bisschen Sojasoße, Reis und Gemüse problemlos zum Abend verspeisen, so offensichtlich ist der.

Tokyo-based artist Koshi Kawachi recently demonstrated his “Manga Farming” technique — which uses old manga as a growing medium for vegetables — by cultivating a crop of radish sprouts in an installation at the Matsuzakaya department store in Nagoya.
