DJ BC hat heute morgen sein komplettes neues Beastles-Album online gestellt, hier die einzelnen Tracks in der Soundcloud, hier die Soundcloud-Playlist, die ich daraus schnell zusammengeklickt habe, für Radioclash hatte DJ BC am Wochenende einen Preview-Mix mit ein paar der Tracks gemacht, den gibt’s hier, das Video zum Titeltrack hatte ich letzte Woche hier gepostet. The Beastles are back, hell yeah!

Hier das erste Lebenszeichen von DJ BCs Beastles-Projekt seit 7 Jahren, derzeit arbeitet er grade an der Veröffentlichung seines dritten Beastie Boys/Beatles-Mashup-Albums und das hier ist das erste Video daraus. Ich verfolge DJ BCs Facebook-Seite ziemlich genau und die Platte war schon im Presswerk und alles, dürfte also in ein paar Tagen soweit sein. Es wird ein Fest.

Herzlichen Copyright-Tag, alle zusammen! [update] Der Copyright-Tag war gestern, hab’ ich verrafft. Das Posting passt aber trotzdem so. [/update] Ausgerechnet heute muss sich Ronny mit den [Mumblemumble] der hgm-Press in einem Hamburger Gericht rumschlagen, weil sie oft Abmahnungen wegen angeblichen Urheberrechtsverletzungen verschicken, an denen sie die Rechte nachträglich einkaufen (und dann selbst Public Domain-Bilder der NASA als lizenzpflichtig darstellen).
Lasst uns das Urheberrecht feiern mit einem Video, das so wohl ohne das Netz und seine Möglichkeiten niemals zustande gekommen wäre: Der ganze Crap aus Filmen und Musik von 1999, zusammengeschnitten in einem 10 Minuten langen Video. „Let’s party like it’s 1999“, um mit Prince einen weiteren Copyright-Deppen zu zitieren. Außerdem oute ich mich mal: Ich halte Vanessa Amorosis „Absolutely Everybody“ damals wie heute für einen ziemlich gelungenen Popsong. Ahem.

Das ganze gibt’s vom selben User auch noch für 1997 und 2002. In diesem Sinne: Schmeisst die Torrent-Clients an, ladet ein paar Sachen runter. Guckt Game of Thrones auf’m Rechner, im Stream. Oder kopiert halt einfach nur ein paar Schlangenkuchenbilder in Eure Blogs, heute, am Tag des Urheberrechts.

Live-Mashup of 19 Game-Soundtracks played on hacked Game-Controllers

Game Theory is a 19 track audio visual mashup performed live on re-wired video game controllers. 2013 marks 35 years of video game music (Space Invaders, released in 1978 was the first game to feature a continuous soundtrack). So we took the opportunity to take a look back at some of our favourite examples of video game music and build a 19 track mashup, combining them with some other tracks we love.
The tracks used vary from some of the original 8-bit tracks from the Atari, GameBoy, through 90s N64 and PS1 classics, right up to modern day symphonic epics that accompany some of todays blockbuster games. The mashup was performed live on a series of re-wired game controllers. These were re-configured to control the mashup content and allow for a really versatile performance.

Ich hör mir grade Dan Deacons völlig irres Mashup-Mixtape „Wishbook Vol.1“ an, in dem er von Rod Stewart über Psy bis Animal Collective so ziemlich alles zusammenbringt und in dem Mix einfach Track über Track über Track legt, bis es fast Noise ergibt, aber eben nur fast. Ziemlich großartig.

Datalove for Copyright-Reform: USB-Sticks for Politicians
Tolle Idee der Aktivisten von La Quadrature du Net, die Mitgliedern des EU-Parlaments persönlich USB-Sticks vorbeibringen, auf dem sich jede Menge Bücher (u.a. Doctorow, Lessig, The Wealth of Networks oder auch Nina Paleys „Mimi & Eunice’s Intellectual Pooperty“), Musik (Danger Mouse’ Grey Album und drei Alben von Girl Talk) und Filme (Everything Is a Remix, RIP – A Remix Manifesto, Star Wars Uncut, Steal This Film) befinden, neben Vorschlägen zu einer Reform des Urheberrechts. Ich schätze mal, 75% des Contents des Sticks waren hier auf NC bereits Thema, oft mehrfach, und nicht zuletzt deshalb: Ganz, ganz, ganz großartig!
To raise elected representatives’ awareness, citizens from all over the world crowd-funded “datalove USB drives” loaded with proposals for a copyright reform and a magnificent library of music, movies and books explaining the problems with the current copyright regime and the urgent need to fix it. The USB drives are currently being distributed to Members of the European Parliament.
“Our culture, built online, is based on the sharing, the remixing and the copy-pasting of cultural works. These practices, inseparable from free speech and democratic participation, must be encouraged by law instead of being fought against. Today’s copyright regime differs dangerously from the social and technological realities we live in, at the expense of our fundamental freedoms. It must be reformed. Citizens must urge their representatives to work on these issues” declared Jérémie Zimmermann, co-founder and spokesperson of the citizen organisation La Quadrature du Net.

The Grey Album Re-Mastered

John Stewart, Sound-Engineer aus Colorado, hat Danger Mouse’ „The Grey Album“ neu abgemischt. Das Album hatte 2004 praktisch im Alleingang gezeigt, dass man mit Mashups auch eigenständige und seriöse Kunst machen kann. Natürlich hat die EMI damals eine Verbreitung zu verhindert versucht, ist aber ebenso natürlich kläglich gescheitert. Forbes hat einen Artikel zur neuen Fassung:
Revisiting The Grey Album with an expert ear gave Stewart the ability to pinpoint its audio flaws, and his professional experience gave him the agency to do something about it. Stewart says he first got the idea to remaster The Grey Album on Wednesday, Nov. 21, but it didn’t really click until that Saturday. On Sunday he set out to improve the album’s audio, tinkering with various faders in ProTools until he achieved the desired effect: “I just kind of put the sonics on steroids,” he says. Stewart knocked out the entire project that day and uploaded The Grey Album (Remastered) to SoundCloud and MediaFire on Monday. In the few passing days since releasing the updated version of The Grey Album it’s been covered by sites such as The Source and FACT Magazine, and a swarm of fans have reached out to Stewart to thank him. “A lot of people have thought that it needed to be remastered,” he says. “So it worked out.”

Radio Soulwax’ „Dave“: Mashing up the Thin White Duke for Cinema
Radio Soulwax haben „Dave“, ihre einstündige Film/Mashup-Hommage an David Bowie, komplett online gestellt. „Dave“ ist nun nicht das zwingendste, das Soulwax jemals gemacht haben, ich bin nun aber auch nicht der allergrößte Bowie-Fan. Und Soulwax versuchen immerhin, dem wirklich durch- und totgelutschten Konzept des Mashups ‘ne neue Richtung zu geben. In diesem Sinne: Schönes Ding!
Our homage to the man whose ability to change whilst remaining himself has been a massive influence on us. There are many legends in the music industry but for us, there is no greater than the mighty Dave. We’ve included all things Bowie, whether that is original songs, covers, backing vocals, production work or reworks we made, to attempt to give you the full scope of the man’s genius.
For the visual side to this mix our friend Wim Reygaert (who also made the amazing film for Into The Vortex) came up with the most ambitious film for RSWX, taking us on a fever dream time travel through the man’s career starring the amazing Hannelore Knuts as Dave. We’ve got to extend a special thank you to the cast and crew and everyone involved for putting so much time and energy and heart and soul into this amazing film, it is a pure labour of love for the phenomenon that is Bowie.
