Gespenster Geschichten Comic-Cover

Japanese Bug Eyed Monster-Illustrations from 1970

Aaaaaaaw!
I spent the summer of 1979 fundraising with Tee Matthews Miller for the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons. We spent most of our time in the home she shared with her cartoonist paramour—and too many dogs and cats to name—during his weekends away from Manhattan. I’d met her partner several times before I realized that behind all the stacks of paper and collectibles and layers of dust and pet fur in Tee’s office den, the walls were decorated with familiar art. Not just any art—the original artwork from the pages of The New Yorker magazines that my brother and I had cut up or crayoned across when we were boys. Tee’s boyfriend was the Charles Addams—the one with two d’s. I was home, and our friendship was forever cemented.
They were married in Tee’s pet cemetery in Water Mill, NY in 1980—a surprise for the 60 guests coming for cocktails during the Memorial Day weekend. The wedding party all wore black. It was the union of a wonderful woman of gentle spirit and great generosity and a beguiling man with a subtly wicked sense of humor. Bashful and soft-spoken as he was, he had a devil-child glint in his eyes and a Lugosi-like mouth when he laughed, showing none of his teeth.
The Addams Family: An Evilution is the first book to trace the Addams Family history, presenting more than 200 cartoons created by Charles Addams (1912-1988) throughout his prolific career; many have never been published before. Text by KEVIN MISEROCCHI, director of the Addams Family Foundation.
Addams first created Morticia, Lurch and the Thing in a cartoon published in an issue of the New Yorker magazine in 1938, though he hadn’t named them yet. His characters inspired an ABC television situation-comedy series in the 1960′s, and two motion pictures in 1991 and 1993. A phenomenon of rare proportion, The Addams Family is the manifestation of one artist’s dark but irresistible wit, expressed with an uncommonly deft hand. 224 pages with more than 200 cartoons (approximately 50 published here for the first time), many in color. Ten chapters explore each Addams Family character as well as the mansion itself.

Krampuslauf
Youtube Direktkrampus, via Cyn-C
It’s alive! Frankenstein-Remix Sculptures

The “Its Alive” Project celebrates eight decades of the Frankenstein Monster by presenting 80 re-imagined Life Size Boris Karloff Frankenstein Busts. Each of the 80 artists have been asked to recreate the monster in their own vision, style and hand. You will be amazed and frightened by what can happen when these talented artists unleash their creative monsters on this unique and terrifying project. See creations from some of the top local artists as well as a few Professional Monster Makers from across the country.
The busts will be on display and available for purchase at the City Arts Factory in Downtown Orlando Florida from October 20th through November 15th. Several special edition pieces will also be auctioned off during the exhibits run.

Jérémie Perins Fantasy
(Dailymotion Direktmonsters, via Nils)
Tigersushi and Excuse My French are pleased to present the new video for DyE’s new single, Fantasy. Directed by animation wunderkind Jérémie Périn, the video tells the story of a group of highschool kids ready for teenage mischief. They break into the local swimming pool intending a session of innocent nightswimming, in an awkward climate of romance and apprehension.
Where Monsters Come From

Das da oben ist Rangda, die „child-eating, tusk-faced, long-taloned queen of demons on the Indonesian island of Bali, Rangda is symbolically defeated by the lionesque king of good spirits during the Barong dance.“ Etwas Internet-kompatibler ist aber wahrscheinlich die japanische Monster-Cat:
The bakaneko, or “monster-cat,” is a Japanese legend that arose centuries ago, in which a regular house cat turns into a monster once it lives for 100 years, exceeds 8 1/4 pounds in weight, or keeps a long tail. The monster-cat then terrorizes villagers by walking on two legs, devouring anything it feels like, changing shape to resemble human loved ones, and bringing the dead back to life by leaping over their corpses. Some believe that the superstition about long-tailed cats is what gave rise to the first Japanese bobtails (pictured).
John Landis’ Monsters in the Movies

John Landis has been a horror movie luminary ever since he directed An American Werewolf in London in 1981. In the decades since then, he’s seen monsters evolve from elaborate works of costume and make-up magic to elaborate works of CGI.
In his new book Monsters in the Movies, out Monday, Landis explores a century of cinematic creatures, from the currently hot vampires and zombies to apes, genetic mutants, mad scientists, psychos and scary children. Scanning through the book, it’s hard not to be taken by the evolution of how Hollywood monsters are created, from rudimentary make-up tricks to really slick technical feats.
“Technology in movies is always changing,” Landis told Wired.com. “In terms of CG, it’s an amazing technology and like all new technologies, completely overused immediately.”

Monsterologie Podcast

Based on their results, people are recalling information less, and instead can remember where to find the information they have forgotten.

Giant Bin Laden Destroys New York, Washington

He seemed to feed off our weaponry“. Awesome!
NEW YORK—Just weeks after his body was buried at sea, Osama bin Laden burst forth from the ocean depths early this morning, rising to the monstrous height of 500 feet and rapidly making his way down the East Coast of the United States in a rampage expected to leave hundreds of thousands dead and easily eclipse 9/11 as the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history.
Currently, much of New York City and Washington, D.C., including the Empire State Building, the White House, and the Capitol Building, lay in ruins, with overwhelmed rescue crews struggling to assist a country ravaged by the gigantic, irate al-Qaeda leader.
“Our nation faces its gravest challenge yet,” a visibly shaken President Obama said, interrupting his prepared remarks to both houses of British Parliament in London. “I cannot say that we will prevail, only that we will fight to the last.”
“May God help us all,” Obama added as the walls and ceiling shook around him.
The first stirrings of bin Laden were felt in the form of early morning tremors off the Atlantic Coast that reportedly rattled windows as far inland as Ohio. Shortly thereafter, stunned witnesses from a nearby fishing vessel reported that bin Laden, in full robes and with a beard described as “at least 100 feet long,” suddenly rose from beneath the water.
Within an hour, a formidable assembly of U.S. fighter jets and battleships began engaging bin Laden approximately 25 miles off the Atlantic Coast, an encounter officials conceded has so far done nothing to slow the progress of the colossal terrorist mastermind. On the contrary, sources are reporting that bin Laden seems to be absorbing the bombardment and growing both angrier and, shockingly, larger with each strike.
By the time the unscathed bin Laden entered New York Harbor and flung the Statue of Liberty into Lower Manhattan, some estimates put his height at 800 feet.
“He seemed to feed off our weaponry,” Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen said.

[update] Bin Laden Returns To Sea: „VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—The colossal Osama bin Laden, having carved a swath of unimaginable destruction from New York to Washington, has reentered the ocean, dazed and terrified sources are confirming.“
