Eric Idle wurde gestern stolze 70 Jahre alt! Im Video oben erzählen die Pythons ein bisschen über Herrn Idle und er selbst erklärt, wie sein Philosophers Song zustande kam, inklusive meinem Lieblings-Bier-Witz – bis heute eine meiner allerliebsten Python-Nummern (neben dem Parrot-Sketch und der Argument-Klinik) und ich liebe diesen Text… Happy Birthday und Prost!

Schickes Timelapse-Video vom Museum für Naturkunde in London mit fleischfressenden Käfern, die einen toten Papagei (und ‘ne Eule und einen Fasan) verspeisen. Die Viecher konnten natürlich nicht wissen, dass der Papagei nicht tot ist. Jedenfalls: Das Museum hat hier noch ein weiteres Papageien-Video und eine Webcam, mit der man den fleischfressenden Käfern beim Futtern zuschauen kann, leider nur als Windows Media Crap, ich kann daher nicht sagen, ob die grade irgendwas auseinandernehmen. Fuck yeah Science und guten Appetit!
Scientists sometimes use strong chemicals to strip the flesh off skeletons they want to study. But these can eat into the bones and change their structure. So instead, we use a special beetle species, Dermestes haemarrhoidalis, that strips off the flesh but leaves the bones and collagen untouched.
The beetles don’t eat feathers, so usually specimens are skinned first, to speed up the process. Here, the feathers were left on, to show how the skull of the scarlet macaw, Ara macao, sits underneath its skin. The impressive size of the lower jaw reflects the massive strength of the parrot’s beak.
A Liars Autobiography: Graham Chapman Biopic-Animation – Trailer
X-Posting von den Filmfreunden: Ungefähr vor einem Jahr bloggte ich die Meldung eines kommenden Animations-Episodenfilms über das Leben von Graham Chapman – „the dead Python“. Bis auf Eric Idle sind alle Pythons in Sprechrollen zu hören, die Stimme von Graham Chapman kommt von einem Tonband, das er kurz vor seinem Tod aufgenommen hatte. Ob mir der Trailer gefällt, weiß ich noch nicht – wird nach hinten raus etwas besser. Insgesamt finde ich die Animation aber recht schwach, muss man aber im Kontext bewerten. Der Film läuft Ende des Jahres in einem limitierten Kinostart in den USA, danach auf dem PayTV-Sender Epix. Wann und ob „A Liars Autobiography“ auch in Deutschland zu sehen sein wird, weiß ich nicht, aber man hat ja alternative Möglichkeiten.
Graham Chapman, probably best remembered as ‘the dead one from Monty Python’, writes and stars in the animated movie of his own life story, A LIAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Although Chapman selfishly dropped dead in 1989, he had taken the trouble to record himself reading his book, A Liar’s Autobiography — and those recordings have now ingeniously been used to provide Chapman’s voice for the 3D animated feature of the same name. Fellow Pythons John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam also turn up, playing themselves and other characters, along with a few surprise guests.
Not a documentary, not a Monty Python film, A LIAR’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY is Chapman’s own take on his bizarre life and his search for self-knowledge, bringing Chapman back to life in an ingenious tour de force of animation, told through 17 different animation styles from 14 different animators.
Incredible, yes. Surreal, certainly. True? Who knows? At his memorial service, John Cleese called Chapman “a freeloading bastard”. Now, as the film re-unites Chapman with Cleese, Jones, Palin, and Gilliam for the first time in 23 years, he is set to earn a new title — the most prolific corpse since Elvis.

ZOMG! Terry Gilliams Tochter Holly sortiert seit Ende letzten Jahres das Archiv ihres Vaters, fotografiert und scannt die Perlen daraus und hat jetzt ein Blog eröffnet, auf dem sie die besten Sachen posten will! Holy Grenade in a Chicken Basket! Da gibt’s leider noch extrem wenig zu sehen, aber das Blog ist selbstredend umgehend in meinen Feedreader gewandert und wenn die Dame die Entwürfe zum Black Beast of Aauuugh postet, sterbe ich auf der Stelle an einer Herzattacke. Awesome!
In October 2011 I took on the mamouth task of organising my father’s archive – all his work from pre-Python days, as a cartoonist, photojournalist & assistnat editor for Help! magazine, through all his original artwork and cut-outs for Python animation, posters, logos and generally everything Python, to his storyboards, designs and sketches for his feature films and other non-film related projects (including his opera of “Faust” and that infamous Nike commercial). Why!? Because I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by my father’s amazing work all my life and I think it should be seen by everyone so I am organising the archive so it can eventually be put in a book and an exhibition. Along the (dusty) way I have uncovered absolute gems. I have set up this blog to share my journey and some of the “gems” I find along the way… Enjoy.

Gilliam war der kreativste Kopf der unvergleichlichen Komikertruppe Monty Python, bevor er als Regisseur Meisterwerke wie “Brazil” und “12 Monkeys” schuf – aber auch ebenso große Flops. Mit seinem Projekt “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” scheiterte er spektakulär. Dokumentiert wurde der katastrophale Dreh und dessen Abbruch in dem inzwischen legendären Film “Lost in La Mancha”.
John Landis Filme wie “The Blues Brothers” und “American Werewolf” haben weit über eine Milliarde Dollar eingespielt – und Landis kennt Hollywood wie kaum ein anderer. Schon als Jugendlicher arbeitet er als Mailboy bei 20th Century Fox in Los Angeles, dann als Stuntman, Dialog-Coach, Schauspieler, Regie- und Produktionsassistent, unter anderem bei “Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod”. Und als ein gewisser Michael Jackson ihn um ein Video für einen Song namens “Thriller” anfragte, schrieb Landis Geschichte – der 15-minütige Clip gilt noch heute als das beste Musikvideo aller Zeiten.

Letters of Note hat den Formbrief, den Monty Python an wütende Gläubige schickten, die sich wegen des angeblich blasphemischen Films „Life of Brian“ beschwerten. Man muss sich den Brief mit der Stimme von John Cleese im Kopf vorlesen und dabei die vergnarzten Gesichter angepisster Katholiken vorstellen. Brüller.

Whilst we understand your concern, we would like to correct some misconceptions you may have about the film which may be due to the fact that you have not had the chance to see it before forming your views. The film is set in Biblical times, but it is not about Jesus. It is a comedy, but we would like to think that it does have serious attitudes and certain things to say about human nature. It does not ridicule Christ, nor does it show Christ in any way that could offend anyone, nor is belief in God or Christ a subject dealt with in the film.
We are aware that certain organizations have been circulating misinformation on these points and are sorry that you have been misled. We hope you will go see the film yourself and come to your own conclusions about its virtues and defects. In any case, we hope you find it funny.

John Cleese plays a cash-strapped Prince of Darkness in this classic sketch from The Frost Report, the show that launched Cleese as a television star in Britain. He was 26 years old at the time. The program was hosted by David Frost, who is perhaps best known for his 1977 interviews of Richard Nixon. There were four other future Monty Python comedians on the writing staff of The Frost Report–Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Eric Idle–but only Cleese was a cast member. The show was broadcast in 1966 and 1967, with each weekly episode centered around a particular theme, like love, leisure, class and authority. The “Souls in Torment Appeal” is from a March 24, 1966 program about sin.

Monty Pythons Holy iPad-App
Die Pythons haben eine iPad-App veröffentlicht, die sich mit dem BlueRay-Release der Ritter vom Ni synchronisiert, sprich: Das iPad wird beim Ansehen des Films mit einem BluRay-Player mit Netzverbindung zum zweiten Bildschirm. Dazu gibts mehr als 70 Minuten bislang unveröffentlichtes Filmmaterial, Concept Arts und Storyboards. Ich habe bislang weder die BluRay noch die App, aber beides ist für mich absolutes Must Have.
