Morrissey pulls a Rickroll
Morrissey wollte für den Re-Release seiner Single „The Last of the International Playboys“ ein Foto von sich zusammen mit David Bowie von 1992 auf dem Cover haben. Da hatte Bowie aber keine Lust drauf, also hat er Rick Astley gefragt und der meinte natürlich nur: „Never gonna let you down“. Und so hat der Moz dann ungefähr fünf Jahre zu spät eine Rickroll gepullt, jetzt zeigt das Cover das Bild oben, eine Backstage-Aufnahme von Top of the Pops 1989.
Last month, Morrissey added David Bowie to his ever-growing list of foes: Bowie allegedly wouldn’t let Morrissey use a previously unseen photograph of the pair for the artwork of the reissue of Morrissey’s 1989 single, “The Last of the International Playboys”. Fortunately, Morrissey’s second choice, Rick Astley, didn’t let him down: A photo of the pair backstage at BBC’s “Top of the Pops” in 1989 will grace the single’s cover.

The Smith-Songs as Penguin Book-Covers
Ich wollte eigentlich nur auf die Penguin Book Cover mit Smiths- und Morrissey-Songs von Chris Thornley hinweisen, aber sein gesamtes Portfolio ist ein ziemlicher Knaller, vom Barbarella Font bis Filmposter sind das durch die Bank weg ziemlich fantastische Arbeiten und dieser Game of Thrones-Print ist der Wahnsinn. The Moz hacked into Google Earth
Bei Google arbeitet mindestens ein ganz großer Morrissey-Fan, der im neuesten Update der Google Earth-Software einen Morrissey versteckt hat, den man sieht, wenn man im Flug-Modus den Salford Lads Club betrachtet. Da steht er dann davor in einer Pixelversion, genau wie auf einem berühmten Promoposter zu „The Queen is dead“.
The Google hack insert is a pixeled replica of Morrissey’s pose on the 1986 The Queen Is Dead LP, right at the virtual replica of the location at St Ignatius Walk in Salford, M5 3RX, United Kingdom, where the army of Moz-coiffed adorable clones ride bicycles in the “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” video.

Ein paar Musikvideos, die mir die Tage so untergekommen sind. Oben das Video zu „Home Taping is Killing Music“ von Dan Bull. Eigentlich kein richtiges Musikvideo, sondern Teil einer Kampagne des UK-ISPs TalkTalk gegen die britischen ThreeStrikes-Pläne für Filesharer „Don’t disconnect us“.

Das ist Derek Erdmans Gemälde zu einer Story, in der Morrissey in einem Kaff gestrandet war und eine lokale House Party besuchte, um mit ein paar Teenies Bier zu trinken und Joints zu rauchen. Hier die Story:
There is a seldom told story that Morrissey’s tour bus broke down in small town Ohio in the autumn of 1994. A full day was necessary for the repairs to be completed and Morrissey and his band delighted local teenaged fans by stopping by a house party to drink beer and smoke marijuana. “It was the time of my life,” remarks Tamara Marshall, who was hosting the party. “My parents were out of town and I was told not to have a party, but once Morrissey showed up I knew I wasn’t going to be a secret for long.” When asked what she remembered most about Morrissey’s visit, Tamara answered, “He didn’t like Rolling Rock beer”.
Ich kenne das ja, ich war bei uns im Kaff früher auch immer derjenige, der die House Partys schmiss und ab und zu auch Lichtanlagen oder Turntables im Wohnzimmer meiner Eltern aufstellte. Und das war so ziemlich genau auch um das Jahr 1994 herum. Meine Güte, was ging da schon alles zu Bruch, Türen, Tische, Stühle und hinterher natürlich nichts als Ärger. Und jetzt stelle ich mir vor, dass damals einfach so der Moz hereingekommen wäre, um mit uns eine Bong zu rauchen. „Time of my life“, you bet!

Morrissey… Gestern!
Ich könnte ja jetzt erzählen, dass die Vorband furchtbar war. Und der Baß ziemlich heftig gewummert hat. Daß der Mozz nur häßliche T-Shirts verkauft. Und dass das Konzert wirklich ganz ganz toll war. Steht aber sowieso alles beim Webrocker, also warum soll ich mir die Arbeit machen, vor allem, weil er so nen tollen ersten Satz hat und ich nicht:
