Und dann haut das legendäre japanische Animationsstudio Ghibli seine erste Realverfilmung als Short raus: „Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo“ basiert auf Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, dem allerersten Zeichentrickfilm von Ghibli (noch bevor das Studio eigentlich gegründet wurde). Der Kurzfilm hat noch ein paar weitere Ghibli-Verbindungen, von Twitch:
the short was commissioned by Anno Hideaki, the director of landmark anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion and to be directed by Higuchi Shinji, one of Anno’s key Evangelion artists. As intriguing as the Eva connection is, however, the real hook lies farther back in Anno’s past. All the way back to the beginning, in fact, to the days when Anno cut his teeth as a fledgling animator working under Miyazaki Hayao as a key animator on Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind.
Yes, Giant God Warrior Appears In Tokyo has a direct Miyazaki connection. Two of them, in fact. First, Miyazaki himself provided the design for the creature. And, second, the short now stands as the first live action work produced directly by Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli.

[/update] Ausgerechnet heute muss sich Ronny mit den [Mumblemumble] der hgm-Press in einem Hamburger Gericht rumschlagen, weil sie oft Abmahnungen wegen angeblichen Urheberrechtsverletzungen verschicken, an denen sie die Rechte nachträglich einkaufen (und dann selbst Public Domain-Bilder der NASA als lizenzpflichtig darstellen).
Lasst uns das Urheberrecht feiern mit einem Video, das so wohl ohne das Netz und seine Möglichkeiten niemals zustande gekommen wäre: Der ganze Crap aus Filmen und Musik von 1999, zusammengeschnitten in einem 10 Minuten langen Video. „Let’s party like it’s 1999“, um mit Prince einen weiteren Copyright-Deppen zu zitieren. Außerdem oute ich mich mal: Ich halte Vanessa Amorosis „Absolutely Everybody“ damals wie heute für einen ziemlich gelungenen Popsong. Ahem.

Thor – The Dark World – Trailer
Hübscher Trailer für den zweiten Thor. Ich mochte den ersten Teil ja mit Abstrichen ganz gerne, mir hat zwar nicht so ganz gepasst, dass sie die komplette Donald Blake-Origin-Story weggelassen haben – offensichtlich war ein transformierender Doktor (nämlich Bruce „Hulk“ Banner) genug – und Asgard war im Film leider äußerst tot und leer, im Gegensatz zum Comic, aber insgesamt war der Film mehr als okay und in der Reihe der Marvel-Verfilmungen durchaus stimmig.
Überhaupt finde ich, dass Marvel mit seinen selbst produzierten Verfilmungen bislang sehr viel richtig macht, bin sehr gespannt auf ihre Phase 2-Filme, vor allen Dingen auf „Ant-Man“. Weil Hank Pym is the shit.

Großartige Podcast-Serie auf Slate von Matthew Yglesias über die Wirtschaft in Game Of Thrones. Überhaupt: Habt Ihr die Folge vom Wochenende gesehen? Mother of Dragons, fuck yeah! Jedenfalls: Wirtschaft, Drachen und Gold… die dritte Folge des Podcasts bezieht sich halbwegs direkt auf die letzte Folge und den Markt der Drachen. Großartig!

There are very few dragon sales happening, so the price of dragons hinges entirely on the idiosyncratic decision-making leading up to a single transaction. Nobody knows what price a dragon would fetch if Daenerys tried to offer it up at a widely publicized auction. What we know (from the books where the transaction is spelled out in more detail) is that Kraznys Mo Nakloz is willing to trade 1,000 Unsullied for the goods carried by the Vhagar, the Meraxes, and the Balerion and to trade 1,000 more for the three ships themselves. But for her plan to work, Daenerys needs to buy all 8,600 Unsullied. Krazynys agrees to sell the whole lot for the three ships, their contents, and a single dragon. Hence a dragon is worth 6,600 Unsullied, a ship is worth 333 Unsullied, and thus a dragon is worth approximately 20 ships.
Spoilers are involved in the details, but from the books we know that Sallador San has at least 29 ships left after the Battle of Blackwater, so in pure financial terms, three dragons does not seem to make House Targaryen all that rich compared to the great houses of Westeros. Certainly, though, it’s valuable property.

Ein Musical basierend auf Bret Easton Ellis’ „American Psycho“ vom Drehbuchschreiber von Glee, yay! Im Film hatten sie ja die besten Szenen weggelassen, und so freue ich mich jetzt schon auf so tolle Nummern wie „I scrambled your Brain with a Driller, Baby!“ oder auch „You ripped out my Tongue at Midnight“, vorgetragen von jungen, knackigen Teenie-Darstellern mit Killergroove und Mörderlächeln im Gesicht.
A musical based on Bret Easton Ellis’s novel American Psycho will have its world premiere in London this year, it has been announced. The show is being scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, best known for his work on the hit US television series Glee. The writer was also behind the Broadway production of Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark.

Schöner Trailer zu „Punk in Africa“, der die Wurzeln der Mucke in der Rebellion der weißen Kids gegen die Rassenpolitik ihrer Eltern ausmacht, die sich mit den Schwarzen zusammentaten und drei Akkorde runterspielten. Der Film befindet sich seit letztem Jahr im Festivalzirkus, Screenings findet man auf der Facebook-Seite. Ob und wann der bei uns zu sehen sein wird, kann ich nicht sagen. Leider.
Three chords, three countries, one revolution…PUNK IN AFRICA is the story of the multi-racial punk movement within the recent political and social upheavals experienced in three Southern African countries: South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. In these societies, the punk subculture represented a genuinely radical political impulse, playing out against a backdrop of intense political struggle, economic hardship and even civil war.
PUNK IN AFRICA traces this until-now untold story from its roots in the underground rock music of early 1970s Johannesburg, the first multi-racial punk bands formed in the wake of the Soweto Uprising and the militant anti-apartheid hardcore and post-punk bands of the 1980s to the rise of celebratory African-inspired ska bands which sprang up from Cape Town to Maputo in the democratic era of the 1990s. Today, an emerging generation of bands continue to draw on this legacy to confront the political challenges of contemporary Zimbabwe and the uncertain identity issues of the Afrikaans minority in South Africa.

Die Spoke Art-Gallery in San Francisco zeigt von heute bis Sonntag eine Ausstellung mit Artworks zu den Filmen Scorseses, haufenweise Artworks daraus gibt’s in ihrem Tumblr und auf Facebook, ich hab’ hier mal die Taxi Driver-Arbeiten rausgesucht.

Audio Fidelity veröffentlichen dieser Tage einen remasterten Soundtrack von Blade Runner auf rotem Vinyl. Das Teil ist der Original-Soundtrack und nicht das nachgespielte Dings von 1982.
The movie remains a classic film with a long list of popular movie stars including Harrison Ford, Daryl Hannah, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos most of whom appear on this record in movie dialog samples mixed into the 12 tracks of nearly one hour of music. Vangelis makes each track flow into one another. The soundtrack features vocal contributions from Demis Roussos and the sax solo by Dick Morrissey on “Love Theme.” The gatefold jacket includes many colorful stills from the film. Blade Runner is a timeless classic film and now on 180g translucent red vinyl.

Funny Or Die haben ihr Steve Jobs-„Biopic“ online gestellt. Das Teil ist so halb witzig, wobei Jorge Garcia als Woz natürlich grandios gecastet ist. Wie so ziemlich alles von Funny Or Die eher unlustig und höchstens nett, es sei der Vollständigkeit halber aber erwähnt. (Wobei sie das Teil in drei Tagen geschrieben und in fünf gedreht haben – für so’n spontanes Projekt ist das dann doch okay.)
