DIY-Papercraft-Torso with removable Papercraft-Guts

Nice! (via Colossal)

More mysterious Paper Sculptures in Edinburgh

Well, guess who’s back. (Bild oben: Robert Louis Stevensons Treasure Island, Bild recht: Peter Pan.)
Each day [last] week, a clue has been released that leads to one of the sculptures. On Monday, Emma Lister, a teaching assistant at Glasgow University, found a piece inspired by Alasdair Gray’s Lanark at Glasgow School of Art, and on Tuesday Stranraer student Jemma Dornan tracked down a sculpture based on Robert Burns’s poem Tam o’Shanter in the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway. Wednesday saw a class of pupils from Eriskay Primary School find the third sculpture, inspired by Compton Mackenzie’s classic novel Whisky Galore, at the island’s Am Politician Lounge Bar, and on Thursday Stephen Ryan found a Peter Pan book sculpture in the birthplace of his creator JM Barrie, Kirriemuir.

Colorful Papercraft Chef Masks

Sehr schicke Arbeiten.
This year marks the 30th birthday of the gastronomic restaurant Au Bon Gîte. The Chief has prepared special bimonthly menus to showcase unique offerings to celebrate throughout the year. Composed in harmony, as the expert layering of flavors, the elements of each mask will reveal the personality of the Chief’s menu.
Chef’s Mask I represents the various ingredients used to cook the first menu: onions, peas, asparagus, rice, ham on the bone, and strawberries. Chef’s Mask II represents […] the second menu : turnips, poultry, morels, crayfish, lemons, oranges, chocolate. Chef’s Mask III[…]: carots, swiss chards, green beans, squab chops, trout filets, gnocchis, bergamots, ice cream…

Papercraft Nipple Burlesque-Things

Burlesque-Dingsbums für Nippel aus Papier (via Cool Hunting): „FOR MORE FUN THAN YOU THOUGHT POSSIBLE WITH PAPER, SIMPLY CUT ROUND THE DOTTED LINES AND STICK.. An original commission for Coco de Mer, these postcard packs, include everything you need for immediate nipple tassle action.“

(via Creators Project)

Anatomical Cross-Sections in Paper

These pieces are made of Japanese mulberry paper and the gilded edges of old books. They are constructed by a technique of rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper called quilling or paper filigree. Quilling was first practiced by Renaissance nuns and monks who made artistic use of the gilded edges of worn out bibles, and later by 18th century ladies who made artistic use of lots of free time. I find quilling exquisitely satisfying for rendering the densely squished and lovely internal landscape of the human body in cross section.
The mysterious Paper Sculptures of Edinburgh

It started with your name @byleaveswelive and became a tree.… … We know that a library is so much more than a building full of books… a book is so much more than pages full of words.… This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. a gesture (poetic maybe?)“
For @filmhouse – A gift in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. and all things *magic*“.
(via Laughing Squid)

Have a look around and ask yourself: why are most sleeves or covers for mobile elctronic devices made from plastic? You may find that plastic lasts for a long time – in most cases it lasts a lot longer than desired and therefore becomes a problem to dispose of. If most electronic devices are designed to last just a couple of years, why do you need a sleeve that lasts for eternity? Paper is a soothingly analogue material – the perfect counterbalance to the metal and plastic world that surrounds us. Paper ages in grace, it becomes increasingly valuable as it collects marks and traces and by doing that it becomes a canvas for your own memories: it begins to tell your story. That’s why we use paper.

Mac ‘n’ Cheese on Vimeo: Mac 'n' Cheese is an animated short directed and created by four students at the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands. This roughly two minute animation took about five months to make, and about a bajillion peanut butter sandwiches.Synopsis: When you find yourself running scared and running out of energy, there's only a few options left to outrun your opponent through the southern desert. Stopping at nothing, watch these two guys wear each other out and rip through boundaries hitherto unbroken.

Hofmann’s Potion (LSD documentary) – YouTube: The documentary delves into the little known early history of the world's most notorious psychedelic.Long before Timothy Leary urged a generation to "turn on, tune in and drop out," lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD, was being used by researchers trying to understand the human mind. This documentary is a fascinating look at the story of "acid" before it hit the streets.Featuring interviews with many LSD pioneers, Hofmann's Potion is much more than a simple chronicle of the drug's early days. <br />
With thoughtful interviews, beautiful music and stunning cinematography, it is an invitation to look at LSD, and our world, with a more open, compassionate mind.
The Bible of Western War, Now Featuring Cartoon Animals | Danger Room | Wired.com: On War is Clausewitz’s attempt to distill warfare down to its enduring essentials. Its only equal is Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. If you’ve heard the phrase, “war is politics by other means,” you know the nickel version. If you want to go for the jackpot, stroll over to one of the war colleges or onto any military listserv to hear people debate Clausewitz’s relevance to their pet issue or dispute what he really said like he was Marshall McLuhan in Annie Hall. But if you’d like something in between, Fitzgerald’s Clausewitz for Kids blog is slowly recasting On War, section by section, into a lecture series in the Prussian forest, conducted by Hare Clausewitz (get it?), the intense-looking rabbit officer pictured above in Napoleonic-era regalia.
CINEMETRICS: cinemetrics is about measuring and visualizing movie data, in order to reveal the characteristics of films and to create a visual “fingerprint” for them. Information such as the editing structure, color, speech or motion are extracted, analyzed and transformed into graphic representations so that movies can be seen as a whole and easily interpreted or compared side by side.
Christian Groß — SMS to Paper Airplanes: The text messages were filtered and analyzed using PROCESSING. The sender was encoded by the direction of the paper airplane, the length of the message with its size and the amount of positive emotional words with the amounts of folds. Additionally the paper airplanes were divided in two types depending on the length of their text. Finally, the paper airplanes resulting from this construction plan were placed in the room depending on the time when they were sent, as well as their emotional value.
Chicago: The Ferris Bueller high school – YouTube: You can make a strong case for The Blues Brothers as the definitive Chicago film, but Ferris Bueller's Day Off almost seems like a 103-minute commercial from the Chicago Office Of Tourism. That was no accident. Director (and Chicagoan) John Hughes described the film as his "love letter" to the city. He wanted to capture "not just the architecture, but the spirit."

Tom Gallants Porn-Papercuts

Living and working in Brussels, Belgium, Tom Gallant creates hand-cut floral prints out of archived pornographic magazines. Using a surgical blade, he cuts into the imagery, layering extremely delicate cut-outs on top of one another to assemble a dramatic visual experience that almost blurs your vision. If you look closely you can see hints of hair, lips, neck and genitalia, but it’s the paper’s flesh tones and curvature that stand out.
Soft spoken and a self-proclaimed compulsive collector, he describes his work as a visual language “dealing with a private matter in a very public way.”
Dead Wood from Newspapers made into a Lamp

Every day, piles of newspapers are discarded and recycled into new paper. Mieke Meijer has devised a solution to use this surplus of paper into a renewed material. When a NewspaperWood log is cut, the layers of paper appear like lines of a wood grain or the rings of a tree and therefore resembles the aesthetic of real wood. The material can be cut, milled and sanded and generally treated like any other type of wood.
In april 2011 the first prototypes have been presented in Milan of which a selection will be included in the Vij5 collection.
