Das Science Museum in London hat ein Gipsmodel des abgetrennten Kopfes eines hingerichteten chinesischen Piraten, die Haare sind Menschenhaare.
This model head is reportedly an executed Chinese Yangstze river pirate. It is made of plaster. The long ponytail is real human hair. It is particularly gruesome because it depicts the head in great anatomical detail. Arteries, veins and spinal cord are accurately modelled across the severed neck. The head also has its own bloodstained carrying box. The origins and purpose of the model are uncertain. It was possibly used in an exhibition because it was made in England early in the last century.

Sehr schicker Trailer zu einem Buch, das ich mir grade zulegen musste: „Pirate Organization: Lessons from the Fringes of Capitalism“ erzählt die Geschichte der Piraterie von den ersten Freibeutern auf dem indischen Ozean, über Piratenradio bis zu Anonymous und den Piraten von heute. Darüber hinaus wird wohl auch ein Ausblick auf Piraterie in der Zukunft angedeutet, Pirates in Space und sowas. Bioengineered Copyright Infringement hatten wir hier aufm Blog immerhin auch schon vor anderthalb Jahren. Spannender Trailer, superinteressant klingendes Buch, habe ich mir grade eben gekauft.

We could learn a lot from them–if only we paid more attention.

Man traut es sich ja fast nicht zu sagen, aber heute ist tatsächlich Talk like a Pirate-Day, Ihr Landratten! Arrrrrr! Heute dürften in Berlin ziemlich viele Leute wie Piraten reden, aber eher so: „Und der Rösler gestern, haste das Gesicht gesehen?“ Oder „4,9444444 mal mehr als die FDP! Ich hab’s genau ausgerechnet!“ Oder auch „LOLWTFWHOOHOO!!1!“
Das Bild kommt von Golden Age Comicbook Stories und ich wollte eigentlich neuen Text reinshoppen für mein allgemeines Amüsemang, war dann aber doch zu faul. Ich hätte ungefär das hier druntergeschrieben: „Captain Andreas Baum and his 15 Sons of the Seven Seas in ‘The Defacement of Admiral Rösler, the tame Dog of Guido from the Wave of West’“. Oder sowas.

You may be wondering why swashbuckling outlaws like 18th-century pirates, most of whom lived in fear of capture, should have chosen to identify their ships with such distinctive motifs. The answer lies in the economics of piracy.
“What pirates wanted was profit, and to make it in the least costly way without wasting time and ammunition attacking a ship and taking lots of casualties,” said Tom Wareham, curator of maritime history at the Museum of London Docklands. “If they terrorized a ship on approach, they could board it, get what they wanted with minimum trouble and walk off with the proceeds.”

Influenced by the superficiality of media reports on the mysterious Somali pirates he starts to copy the mitumba pirate-style and the local fishermen wear. He photoshoots kids in Kibera in his new stylish streetcar, his scouts invade Eastleigh in order to access kenyan/somali trend-mixes.

Was macht Johnny Depp, wenn er einen Brief einer 9jährigen Schülerin bekommt, die Hilfe bei ihrer Meutere gegen die Lehrerin braucht? Er schmeisst sich natürlich in sein Captain Jack Sparrow-Kostüm und kommt in die Schule, um der Kleinen zu helfen, natürlich!

Superfaszinierender Vortrag von Jason Scott, dessen Doku über Textadventures „Get Lamp“ ich hier schonmal gebloggt hatte. Hier geht’s um die albernen Kriege zwischen Crackergruppen, leider alles sehr auf die amerikanische Szene bezogen: You’re Stealing it Wrong: 30 Years of Inter-Pirate Battles.

Ich kann mich noch ziemlich gut erinnern, wie das zu meiner Zeit war, als ich Spreader und Grafiker bei Genesis*Project war, einer der erfolgreichsten Crews in Europa. Damals hackten Ikari und Fairlight gegen G*P und alle gegen Legend, wenn ich mich richtig erinnere. OMG, ich habe sogar nen Eintrag bei C64.org, da fehlen allerdings ein paar Sachen, ich hatte zwei Ausgaben der Sex’n'Crime damals gemacht, als Antichrist/Amok in Urlaub war und für G*P habe ich auch zwei Logos für ‘ne Demo gemacht.
Jedenfalls: Damals beschimpften sich alle gegenseitig als Lamer und das alles erinnert mich dann doch sehr an die Blogosphäre vor zwei Jahren, oder so. Just sayin’.
