Danny Choo hat ein tolles Video über Japans unterirdische Bike-Server – Eco Cycle Anti-Seismic Underground Bicycle Parks – und hat eine Kamera an sein Fahrrade geklebt, um zu filmen, was da unten so passiert. Die Dinger werden von Giken Seisakusho gebaut, gibt’s auch für Autos und sehen so ziemlich genau aus, wie der Magnetbandroboter, den ich mit 13 oder 14 während meines Schülerpraktikums gesehen habe.

Es gab einen Döner- und einen Tacocopter, einen Burrito-Bomber und im August sollen auf einem Festival in Südafrika Bier per Dronen an die Besucher geliefert werden. Aber das ist natürlich alles nur so halblustiger Unsinn und alberne Spielerei, die seriöse Anwendung dieser Technologie liegt ganz klar in der Entwicklung eines fliegenden Pizzaservice. Ich mein’ das sogar so mittel-ernst und ja, klar, ist nur ‘ne Promogeschichte für ‘nen Lieferanten, aber ey: FLIEGENDE PIZZA!

- Sizes vary from 5 to 15cm high.
- Wood is mainly black walnut, maple, beech, zebrano, iroko and oak.
- Machines used: table saw, table router, scroll saw, dremel tool, table disk sander, small hand sander, drillpress (except for the tablesaw, none of these tools are very fancy machinery by the way. All just pretty cheap, home made, borrowed or old and battered tools) Beside machines most of the work is done by hand with chisels, various files, small saws, a hammer and loads of sanding paper.

Toa Mata Band is back and for the first time they perform live! In this video some various drum-synth and glockenspiel keys are played by each robot and I’m jam together them.The performance was recorded live in four takes in early May 2013, and after edited and mixed in studio.
The gear used for this performance are: Coron DS-8 Drum Synth, The Kit — Clap, Amdek PCK 100, Boss PC-2, Korg Kaossilator, Korg R3, Alesis Mod-FX Philtre.

Beaker-bot is a animatronic puppet that will “sing” to the sound that I play through him. Meaning, If I hook up an iPod or other music playing device, he will lip-sync his mouth to the music or words. He is also a fully functional puppet with Beaker style head and hand control. He also has a electric button to control his animatronic mouth, and for fans of more classical puppetry, Beaker-bot does have a classic rod to control his mouth as well.

Petr Novikov und Saša Jokić vom Institute for Advanced Architecture in Barcelona haben einen 3D-Druckenden Industrieroboter entwickelt, der Formen in die Luft malt. Wie der 3D-Printing Pen von neulich mit ‘nem Industrie-Bot.
One of the key innovations of anti-gravity object modelling is the use of thermosetting polymers instead of thermoplastics that are used in existing 3D printers. The material is cured because of a chemical reaction between two source components with such proportion of extrusion and movement speeds that it comes solid out of the nozzle; this feature makes it possible to print hanging curves without support material.
The desired shape is created by user in CAD software and then transformed into 3d curves describing the shape which are then converted into movement paths for the robotic arm. The thickness of the printed curve can be scaled down to less than a millimeter and can be adjusted during the printing process, by changing the speed of the movement. Colors can be injected in the nozzle in CMYK mode that allows changing of the curve color throughout the printing process.

Vor ein paar Wochen fuhr das F.A.T.-Lab als Teil ihrer Gold-Ausstellung mit einem gefakten selbstfahrenden Auto von Google durch New York, jetzt haben sie ein Tutorial auf Instructables online gestellt, mit dem man sich so ein Fake-Auto selber bauen kann. Zumindest den rotierenden Scanner auf’m Dach.

Ich hab’ keine Ahnung, was der Mann im Video oben erzählt, aber der Bot ist toll, am Ende zeigt er noch ein paar Details und den Aufbau des Teils – sieht ein bisschen so aus, als hätte er das Ding mit Kaugummi zusammengepappt. Ach ja: Und er leuchtet blau.

Users download an app on their handheld devices and mix ingredients as virtual barmen. They can gain inspiration by viewing other users’ recipes and comments before sending in their drink of choice. The cocktail is then crafted by three robotic arms, whose movements reproduce every action of a barman – from the shaking of a Martini to the muddling of a Mojito, and even the thin slicing of a lemon garnish.

A six-story crypt near Tokyo’s busy Shinjuku Station is slated to open next year with space for 7,000 remains, according to The Japan Times. The high-capacity usage will be profitable for owners of the land, while users who work or live in the metropolis will find it conveniently close.
It won’t be the first of its kind. In similar facilities, people swipe electronic cards, prompting robot arms in the vault to retrieve urns and place them in mourning rooms for prayers. Photos of the deceased are displayed on screens. Meanwhile, if you’re too busy to actually visit the family grave or a robot-proffered urn to pay your respects, you can do it online.

Boston Dynamics Petman has a Gasmask now
Vor zwei Jahren hatte ich mir von Boston Dynamics einen Schädel für ihren Petman-Roboter gewünscht und offensichtlich haben sie auf mich gehört, auch wenn ich mir das ein bisschen gruseliger vorgestellt hatte – wobei die Gasmaske natürlich auch klargeht. Wenn ich mir jetzt nochmal was wünschen dürfte: Boston Dynamics Petman needs a Flamethrower.

Nette Promoaktion für den neuen Star Trek von Ars Electronica, die das Trek-Logo mit Quadrocoptern in den Nachthimmel von London neben der Tower Bride gemalt haben. Die Copter-Pixel nenne sie sehr verunglückt Spaxels, aber da kann man drüber hinwegsehen:
Die Designer entwerfen in einem 3D-Programm den Ablauf eines Programms, die Shapes, die Animationen, die Abfolge der Formen, das alles wird im Wesentlichen genauso vorbereitet, wie in einem Animationsfilm, mit dem Unterschied, dass die Pixel keine Punkte am Bildschirm, sondern physische Bildpunkte am Himmel sind.
Die Herausforderung besteht nun in der Übersetzung der Daten in Flugkoordinaten. Dazu gibt ein Rechner zunächst den Ablauf der Flugshow vor und die Spaxels melden ihre Positionen, per GPS und per LPM […]. Das tun sie ziemlich oft, die Flugbahnen müssen präzise ausgeführt werden, Wind und Wetter haben einen recht großen Einfluss auf die Flugbewegungen, es gilt, die absolute Position im Raum als auch die relative Position der Spaxels untereinander zu überwachen und zu korrigieren.
