Roger Eberts Sex Pistols-Movie: Who Killed Bambi

Unter anderem schrieb er unter anderem die Scripts zu Russ Meyes „Valley of the Dolls“, „Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens“.
Who Killed Bambi? was to be the first film featuring the punk rock band the Sex Pistols, and was due to be released in 1978. Russ Meyer was due to direct from a script by Roger Ebert and Pistols’ manager Malcolm McLaren. The film was intended as a punk rock version of A Hard Day’s Night. Ebert has claimed that only a day and a half’s worth of shooting took place, although this is contradicted by Julian Bray, who supplied location services to McLaren’s Matrixbest company. The filming was halted when 20th Century Fox, who were shocked by what they read in the script, pulled all funding. Sets that had been built at Bray Studios in Berkshire were destroyed. (Wikipedia)
R.I.P. Roger. See you at the Movies.

Never Mind The Bollocks 35th Anniversary Box Set

Now I got a Reason to be waitin’.
The original master tapes from the ‘Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols’ recording sessions in 1977 were thought to be lost for many years. Now thankfully rediscovered during the recent move from Virgin Records to Universal Music Catalogue in January 2012 the tapes have been remastered, for the very first time, by Tim Young under direction from original producer Chris Thomas. Some real treats have also been found along the way. The find that will perhaps excite fans the most is the lost 1977 demo studio recording of ‘Belsen Was A Gas’, the only original Sex Pistols composition of the era thought not to be recorded.
Other treats include the inclusion of six demos first included on the infamous ‘Spunk’ bootleg album, released for the very first time in their original, untouched form following the very recent discovery of their original master tapes. These, combined with a selection of unreleased Chris Thomas demo’s and outtakes from the recording of the album – including tracks with Sid Vicious on bass- plus a wealth of live audio and visual material all from 1977 make up a box set that will truly satisfy fans of the band.

God save the Queen is IT for Vinyl-Investors
(Youtube Direktshave, via Arbroath)
The original single for God Save the Queen, the irreverent and angrily sung tribute to the monarchy during Silver Jubilee Year, was published by A&M Records, but soon after the company dropped the band and destroyed most of the copies, making any existing versions worth £8,000 today. The band was soon picked up by a young Richard Branson and his Virgin label, which re-released the single.
The second-most valuable record is a first pressing of The Beatles’ first album, Please Please Me, worth £3,500 if found in mint condition. Ian McCann, editor of Record Collector magazine, which drew up the list, said: “There is something of an investment market in mint-condition copies of iconic albums.

Malcolm McLaren R.I.P.
We’re so pretty, oh so pretty. R.I.P. Malcolm McLaren.
Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols and impresario, has died from cancer, aged 64.
He died in hospital in Switzerland with his partner, 37-year-old Korean- American Young Kim by his bedside, along with his son Joe Corre. Ms Kim told The Independent: “We were there with him when he passed away. He was diagnosed with cancer in October. He was very active until the end of February when his tumour became very aggressive. He just went very quickly. He said he wanted to be buried at Highgate cemetery. We are now taking steps to try to make that happen.”

Ich wollte zu diesem Posting ja sowieso die „My Way“-Version von Sid Vicious posten, da sehe ich bei Wikipedia: „In the Philippines it was believed that Vicious’ version was inspired by deposed dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos, where in the first part of the song Vicious attempted to imitate the voice of the late dictator.“ And I say what?
Meine Theorie geht also so: Die Leute auf den Philippinen assoziieren den Song, wenn er schlecht gesungen wird, wegen Sid Vicious’ „My Way“-Version mit ihrem ehemaligen Staatspräsident Ferdinand E. Marcos, was vor allem an fortgeschrittenen Abenden zu Gewaltausbrüchen führen könnte. Meine Theorie.
“I used to like ‘My Way,’ but after all the trouble, I stopped singing it,” he said. “You can get killed.”
The authorities do not know exactly how many people have been killed warbling “My Way” in karaoke bars over the years in the Philippines, or how many fatal fights it has fueled. But the news media have recorded at least half a dozen victims in the past decade and includes them in a subcategory of crime dubbed the “My Way Killings.”
The killings have produced urban legends about the song and left Filipinos groping for answers. Are the killings the natural byproduct of the country’s culture of violence, drinking and machismo? Or is there something inherently sinister in the song?

The band are set to play Brixton Academy on November 8.

Boys Noize’s Oi Oi Oi is set to be released in North America on Last Gang and Tiga’s Turbo Records. 2007 has been a year of epic electronic albums, and with Oi Oi Oi, Boys Noize just adds fuel to that fire. This will rank up there on year end lists along with Justice and Simian Mobile Disco.
Record Labels Use Piracy Data to Please Fans
Most people assume that record labels hate filesharing, but it seems that some companies actually use it as a research tool. We found out that Interscope records, and probably other record companies as well, use P2P data to determine which tracks they will release as their next single.
In this specific case Interscope asked MediaDefender to check whether one of “Pussycat Doll” Nicole Scherzinger’s leaked singles is getting some traction on P2P networks. Her first single “Whatever U Like” isn’t selling well and they want to find out if pushing the track “Baby Love” is a good idea. Valuable information for them apparently, and it shows that P2P is not all bad, it’s a tool.

Design
Get Out from Behind the Curtain
As designers, we are often thought of—and think of ourselves—as vendors, offering design services. Sometimes an adversarial relationship develops, with clients giving orders and designers taking them (cursing all the while). Including clients in the design process can change this relationship, facilitating knowledge transfer, building trust, and fostering a sense of partnership.
“Including clients in the design process” may sound like death by a thousand paper cuts. I used to think that designing with clients was a really bad idea. I didn’t want them around me while I was “doing my work.” They just seemed to get in the way.
But as the design challenges I faced grew in complexity, I soon realized I truly needed the wisdom of the whole team—clients and all—to create a stellar experience. Furthermore, I’ve discovered that with practice, patience, and a healthy dose of planning, you can dramatically improve the quality of your work, the likelihood of its acceptance, and the integrity of its implementation.
Mobile Urban Architecture: From Portable Housing to Temporary Hotel Rooms
The world’s interest physical mobility has, to the surprise of many urban theorists, not decreased with the rise of global digital communication. In fact, people are more mobile than ever, changing jobs, cities, or even countries with increased frequency. This trend has played out in a variety of interesting ways when it comes to architecture and urbanism. More and more designers are developing nomadic alternatives to traditional models of static urban living.
