Schöner Trailer zur kommenden Shining-Doku Room 237. Der Film spielte letztes Jahr auf dem Festival-Zirkus und wird jetzt in den USA auch im Kino gezeigt, wann und ob der Film bei uns zu sehen ist, weiß ich nicht. Wie fast immer wird man hier wahrscheinlich mit alternativen Filmdistributionsmöglichkeiten glücklicher.

After the box office failure of Barry Lyndon, Stanley Kubrick decided to embark on a project that might have more commercial appeal. The Shining, Stephen King’s biggest critical and commercial success yet, seemed like a perfect vehicle. After an arduous production, Kubrick’s film received a wide release in the summer of 1980; the reviews were mixed, but the box office, after a slow start, eventually picked up. End of story? Hardly.
In the 30 years since the film’s release, a considerable cult of Shining devotees has emerged, fans who claim to have decoded the film’s secret messages addressing everything from the genocide of Native Americans to a range of government conspiracies. Rodney Ascher’s wry and provocative Room 237 fuses fact and fiction through interviews with cultists and scholars, creating a kaleidoscopic deconstruction of Kubrick’s still-controversial classic.
Saul Bass’ The Shining-Scribbles

One of the coolest parts, especially for a designer like myself, was these sketches by Saul Bass for the film poster of The Shining. I previously I had no idea that Saul Bass had created the original poster (which you can see at the top) so this was a really cool surprise. I’ve read online that Kubrick made Bass go through at least 300 versions of the poster until finally ending on the extremely alien looking version we now know.
The other gem was getting to see Saul Bass’ signature, which absolutely made me laugh. It’s the body of a bass, with Bass’ face.

Here's two radio jingles that bring back the memories of when all it took was a slice of pizza, some sunshine and smile on your face to make everything A-OK! I like the 70s jingle the best; short, catchy and funky! In typical 80s fashion, the jingle was doubled in length and the drums machine is pounding away while girls work out in leg warmers. But hey, it's all good. By the way, you'll hear mention of "Horseheads" in the 80s song. Horseheads is a small town in New York. Seems each Pudgies battles for superiority with other Pudgies!

YouTube DMCA Takedown Grabs Track For Eminem | TorrentFreak: “I Just got a f*%king CRAZY email,” Skepta tweeted last Thursday. “I don’t know if I should be angry or privileged. This explains why the f*%k YouTube took ‘Dare To Dream’ off.”” It happened like this.
After “Dare to Dream” was put up on YouTube one of its early listeners was Jimmy Iovine, founder of Interscope records. Recognizing quality, Iovine had plans in his mind for Skepta’s track so, with help from parent company Universal, they had YouTube remove the song on copyright grounds. Armed with cash Interscope approached Boy Better Known, a group and record label founded in 2005 by Skepta and the team behind Dare to Dream. “Being in an industry where money talks, everybody involved in the ‘Dare To Dream’ project came to a conclusion to sign it to Interscope,” says Skepta.
So who is the lucky recipient of the track? None other than Interscope giant Eminem.

Da gehört schon eine ziemlich große Portion Nerdism dazu, um die Szene aus Shining mit Wowwee-Robotern nachbauen. Selbstverständlich inklusive Roboterzwillingen. Zerhackten Roboterzwillingen. Das Video fängt erstmal relativ unspektakulär an, wird aber ab Sekunde 24 absolut großartig, was natürlich am Originalton aus dem Film liegt.
