Steve Soderberghs obscure Movie-Shirts feat. Sybil the Soothsayer from Network

 Youtube Direktnetwork

I WANT YOU TO GET MAD!

New York Daily Inquirer: Citizen Kane (Orson Welles)
Sybil the Soothsayer: Network (Sidney Lumet)
18 LU 13: The French Connection (William Friedkin)
Pacific All Risk Insurance Company: Double Indemnity (Billy Wilder)
Black Pony Scotch Whiskey: Laura (Otto Preminger)
Linnekar Construction: Touch of Evil (Orson Welles)

Map of Superpowers on a T-Shirt

Sweet!

Behold the universe’s most extensive charting of superpowers. This sprawling breakdown features over 300 heroes, anti-heroes, villains, and beasts as well as hand-drawn “Kirby krackle” effect by comic book artist John Amor. Face front, True Believer!

Burt Reynolds Chesthair-Sweater

(via Ronny)

Glorp, the imaginary Bubblegum-Monsterfactory

Originally created as a treatment for motion sickness in German fighter pilots, this medicinal wonder gum was brought “kicking and screaming” to US shores by brave American soldiers during a German U-boat attack in 1942. It was there, on a fiery bombed out German ship, hidden beneath a pile of Kohl Moder (fermented cabbage bread), that they found a cowardly German scientist by the name of Magnus Von Tiesenhausen, along with his two prized German Sheppards, Keinvetizienz, and Schreckschraubeflammenwerfer.

Algorithmic Rape-Shirts on Amazon

The algorithm that creates these t-shirts is not complex or powerful. This is how I expect it works.

1) Start a sentence with the words KEEP CALM AND.
2) Pick a word from this long list of verbs. Any word will do. Don’t worry, I’m sure they’re all fine.
3) Finish the sentence with one of the following: OFF, THEM, IT, A LOT or US.
4) Lay these words out in the classic Keep Calm style.
5) Create a mockup jpeg of a t-shirt.
6) Submit the design to Amazon using our boilerplate t-shirt description.
7) Go back to 1 and start again.

There are currently 529,493 Solid Gold Bomb clothing items on Amazon. Assuming they survive this and don’t get shitcanned by Amazon I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they top a million in a few months.

It costs nothing to create the design, nothing to submit it to Amazon and nothing for Amazon to host the product. If no-one buys it then the total cost of the experiment is effectively zero. But if the algorithm stumbles upon something special, something that is both unique and funny and actually sells, then everyone makes money.

Super-Batman

I’d totally buy this.

His parents were murdered as his home planet exploded. He escaped to live with a billionaire family in the Midwest where he slowly learned of his amazing powers and developed his detective skills. The sun gives him his powers, but he only fights crime at night. During the day he is a billionaire journalist with a Gothtropolis newspaper he owns.

Typographic Sherlock Holmes-Tees

Fantastische Sherlock Holmes-Shirts in klassischer Typo, leider bereits ausverkauft (aber Nachdrucke sind in Arbeit). Gibt’s auch in der Moriarty-Variante und auf dem steht: „A superb consulting criminal used in the days of the good old-fashioned villain.“ Das Shirt ist sowas von meins.

Pablo Escobar-Shirts are a thing in Mexico

Nearly two decades after Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar died in a hail of bullets, his eldest son is conquering new markets in Mexico – with a fashion line in his father’s image.

Sebastian Marroquin’s designer T-shirts, plastered with photos of Escobar, are hot sellers in Mexican states that are on the front lines of the country’s deadly drug war. The shirts are emblazoned with images of the Medellin cartel boss, who flooded the world with cocaine before he was shot dead in 1993. Featuring pictures from Escobar’s student ID card, driver’s license and other images, the shirts cost between $65 and $95 – a small fortune in a country where about half of the population lives in poverty.

Muppet Totem and the Threadless-Cakes 2012

Threadcakes

ThreadlessYummy!

It all started with Cardinal’s Threadless fan blog (now defunct). Back in 2007, he was writing about new shirts, designers, and crowdsourcing and became friends with the social media team at the Chicago-based company. Then one late night, he came up with “this crazy idea to create a Threadless-themed cake-baking competition.” He asked his readers to send in cake photos, not knowing whether or not they’d take the challenge.

Bake they did. The first year generated over a hundred entries, competing for a mere $100 in prizes. The competition was featured on Digg (Remember when “Digging” was a thing!?) and received 45,000 visits in one day. The attention caught Cardinal by surprise. All of a sudden his email inbox was jammed with cake photos. “I looked through 900 pictures of cake and decided I wasn’t doing that again.” He named a winner, but had no plans to continue. But Threadless wanted another helping, and reached out to Cardinal, asking him to rerun the competition.

Threadless Shirts as animated GIFs

Sweet! (via Eayz)
