Jemand hat die Doku „Sneakers – Just for the Kicks“, die neulich auf Arte lief, bei Youtube hochgeladen. Die Doku hat zwar bereits fünf Jahre auf dem Buckel, das haben meine Lieblingssneaker allerdings auch, sie sehen entsprechend aus und ich muss mir diese Woche sehr, sehr dringend neue kaufen, weil: Die fallen mir echt mittlerweile in Einzelteilen von den Füßen. Da kommt mir das hier grade recht. Am 8. Mai läuft um 3:50 Uhr morgens nochmal eine Wiederholung, Snip:

Mexikaner latschen 2011 in meterlangen Cowboystiefeln rum und ich glaube nicht, dass die jemals von den Leningrad Cowboys gehört haben.
In this episode of Behind the Seams we head to the dusty city of Matehuala, Mexico in search of the pointiest long-toed cowboy boots ever made. Over the past year, the botas vaqueras exóticas phenomenon has overrun the rodeo dance floors and clubs of this area and even spreading North into Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and any place where big groups of immigrant Mexicans have taken root. We made our way to Desierto Light, one of the clubs in this area where party promoters host dance-offs to music known as Tribal Guarachero. For the finals competition, the 17-year-old prodigy DJ Erick Rincón of the 3ballMTY crew performed for a crowd of adoring pointy-boot wearing raver cowboys.

Here is a list of what had to be done:
1. Dismantle the amp and speakers
2. Meticulously take apart the control panel, switches, nodules and input sockets (checking at each stage to make sure things still worked – and solving any problems)
3. Mark on the sneakers where I was going to cut out the holes for the speaker cones, and then very carefully cut out using a scalpel
4. Gut the inside of the sole unit to fit the amp and mark the outside of the midsole to fit all the volume controls and LED (again making sure all was still working)
5. Mark and cut out the holes for the on/off switch and the audio input/output sockets
6. Design the wooden stands, cut them out, sand, clean, varnish and assemble them
7. Attach the sneakers and run the power cables through the stands
8. Fit the speakers and rig all the wires with a soldering iron and heat seal shrink rubber tubing (of which there were about 30 soldered joints)
9. Make bespoke phono cables, as standard cables are just black
10. Add a small plaque, depicting what does what on the sneaker control panel

Für eine Retrospektive des karibischen Künstlers Chris Ofili in der Tate Britain hat Designer Insa diese Designer-Higheels aus Elefantenscheiße gebastelt. Designboom hat noch mehr Bilder, auch vom Schaffensprozess (also vom Schaffensprozess der Schuhe, nicht vom Schaffensprozess des Materials, also… jeez, ist das kompliziert mit dem Scheiß, doh). Snip:

Für schlappe 27 Euro kann man im Shop des DaDaDaStudios (der Name!) Schuhe aus Brot kaufen. Da muss man dann nicht mit rumlaufen, da kann man dann einfach ein bisschen Butter drin rumschmieren, Käse, Salami, bisschen Salat, Gurke, gekochtes Ei und Tomate rein und man hat ein Calzone-Baguette.

Night of the Living Dead (1968): Character played by Judith O’Dea, while fleeing from a zombie in the cemetery, falls and loses one shoe. Before getting up, she kicks the other shoe off and runs. She is seen for, maybe an hour or more of the movie, in her stocking-feet. “Kinja” discovered reference to a book contending that the scene was not intended to include a shoe loss but when filming, she lost one shoe. So they added in a scene where she loses the other one so she would not be one shod, but totally barefoot. It was a cheap production obviously. In 1990 remake of the same movie, same details, only here she loses one shoe, and kicks off the other while running. Same amount of screen time and some nice close-ups, too.
