Croissant de Triomphe: First Mickey Mouse-Cartoon in 20 Years

Disney hat den ersten Mickey Mouse-Cartoon seit grob 20 Jahren veröffentlicht, seit dem 1995er Runaway Brain gab es tatsächlich keinen neuen Zeichentrickfilm mit Mickey. Der Short ist an die alten Cartoons der 30er angelehnt und technisch wie stilistisch ziemlich toll, man beachte zum Beispiel die Kuchen-Glanzlichter in den Augen der Charaktere. Den Film kann man oben eingebettet sehen oder theoretisch auf der Website von Disney, die redirectet allerdings immer auf ihre deutsche Seite.

Ich mag Mickey ja sehr gerne. Donald ist zwar insgesamt mein Lieblingscharakter, auch weil er mir selber wohl am ähnlichsten ist, und Mickey ist so ziemlich die spießigste Figur im Disneyverse, aber ich begreife die Maus so ein bisschen wie Justus Jonas von den Drei Fragezeichen. Ein bisschen spießig und bürgerlich und sie braucht sehr oft eine Tollpatsch-Figur (Pluto, Goofy) um als Comedy durchzugehen. Aber sie funktioniert und Mickey ist wohl die ikonographischste aller Disney-Figuren. Jedenfalls: Disney hat ‘nen neuen Mickey-Short am Start und das ist der erste von insgesamt 19 Cartoons – Warum 19? Ich weiß es nicht… – die in verschiedenen Städten auf der ganzen Welt spielen werden. Auf die Tokyo-Version der Maus bin ich schon sehr gespannt.

Produced in 2D animation, the design esthetic for the Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts reaches back almost 80 years and borrows reverentially from the bold style of his 1930s design, but not before adding a few contemporary touches. Designs for other characters have a similar approach, favoring a “rubber-hose” cartoon style for more exaggerated animation. Background designs closely reflect the graphic design sense of 1950s and 1960s Disney cartoons. And for those true eagle-eyed Disney fans, the production team has also included the occasional homage to other icons from the storied Disney heritage.
