Each visualization is made up of a series of branches starting from a single person. As the branch grows, re-shares split off on their own arcs, sometimes spawning a new generation of re-shares, sometimes exploding in a short-lived burst of activity. The two different colors show gender, and each successive generation becomes more and more white as time goes by.

Googles Star Trek-Doodle
Google hat zum morgigen 46jährigen Jubiläum von Star Trek TOS, die am 8. September 1966 zum ersten mal ausgestrahlt wurde, ein Google Doodle am Start. Ein nettes, kurzes Point’n'Click-Adventure. Die erste Folge war „The Man Trap“, Snip von Wikipedia:
The first regular episode of Star Trek aired on Thursday, September 8, 1966 from 8:30-9:30 as part of an NBC “sneak preview” block. Reviews were mixed; while The Philadelphia Inquirer and San Francisco Chronicle liked the new show, The New York Times and The Boston Globe were less favorable, and Variety predicted that it “won’t work”, calling it “an incredible and dreary mess of confusion and complexities”. Debuting against mostly reruns, Star Trek easily won its time slot with a 40.6 share. The following week against all-new programming, however, the show fell to second (29.4 share) behind CBS. It ranked 33rd (out of 94 programs) over the next two weeks, then the following two episodes ranked 51st in the ratings.

Making Of the original Star Trek Intro-Text
Das Blog Star Trek Prop hat letztes Jahr die Entstehung des Textes aus dem Intro der Orinigal Star Trek-Serie gepostet: The History of Star Trek: The Original Series – Creating the famous Opening Narration (Runterscrollen, via Letters of Note, die das Ding in Auszügen haben, ohne zu Scrollen.)
On August 1st of 1966, just weeks before NBC’s season premiere of the original Star Trek series, two of the programme’s producers — Bob Justman and John Black — contacted Gene Roddenberry and asked him to quickly write the show’s now-famous opening monologue, to be recorded by William Shatner. For the next week or so the three men exchanged drafts by memo, a couple of which can be seen below; Roddenberry came up with the final draft on August 10th, an hour before it was recorded.

Official Spock Cookie Jar
Tatsächlich ist das hier das erste und wahrscheinlich einzige Keksaufbewahrungsgefäß in Spockform, dass es jemals gab und geben wird. Und wisst ihr was? Ich finde das aus unerfindlichen Gründen total toll. Das auch nicht nur wegen des Trailers, den man da oben sehen kann. Als alter Keksjunkie, der ich ja nunmal auch bin, brauche ich das wohl wahrscheinlich einfach, um endlich stilvoll einer meiner Süchte nachgehen zu können.
Das gute Keramikstück kostet auch nur schmale $50 und kann bei ThinkGeek erworben werden. Meine Adresse steht ja dann bei mir im Blog. Wissta Bescheid!

The Hominid Panspermia Theory of Science Fiction Aliens
Hier wird zwar mehr oder weniger nur diese eine Folge aus Star Trek: TNG, in der die dominanteren Rassen (Klingonen, Menschen, Romulaner und Cardassianer) sich auf einem Planeten treffen und die Borschaft der EDO, dem ersten intelligenten Volk des Universums, hören, in der sie sagen, sie hätten das ganze Leben in eben jenem Universum gepflanzt, nach erzählt, aber diese Folge ist auch direkt eine der spannensten. Sie erklärt nämlich ein für alle mal, warum sich die ST-Aliens alle so ähnlich sehen. Der Autor hat diese Geschichte noch ein bisschen aufgeblasen und auf alle anderen Filme und Serien anwendbar gemacht, was dann auch ein ganz nettes Lesevergnügen ist.
Thanks to the Hominid Panspermia Theory of Science Fiction Aliens, my neurotic need to explain the similarity among spacefaring species is sated and I can go back to enjoying the photon blasts and spaceship explosions.
Aber ich mag auch einfach die Theorie, dass die Produktionen nicht genug Geld für Effekte hatten.

The Atlantic hat eine tolle Bildersammlung zur Geschichte des Space Shuttles, das nächste Woche am Freitag zum allerletzten mal in den Weltraum reisen wird. Tolles Behind-The-Scenes-Foto aus William Shatners kommender Star Trek-Dokumentation „The Captains“, in der der Ur-Kirk alle Captains – Chris Pine (Star Trek), Patrick Stewart (The Next Generation), Avery Brooks (Deep Space Nine), Kate Mulgrew (Voyager) und Scott Bakula ( Enterprise) – der Star Trek-Serien interviewt. Die Doku soll im Herbst [naja: 21. Juli] ausgestrahlt werden.
Als er nun also Chris Pine, den Kirk aus JJ Abrams „Star Trek“ interviewen wollte, war der wohl so schüchtern, dass Shatner ihn zum Armdrücken aufforderte, um das Eis zu brechen. Von The Sudbury Star: „’He’s shy,’ Shatner says of the 30-year-old actor who took over the role of James T. Kirk in 2009′s Star Trek prequel/reboot. ‘So the way I started the interview, I put out a table and chairs outside the Paramount gates, and arm-wrestled with him. That was the beginning of my interview with him. I think it broke the ice, that’s for sure.’“
