Early in the day, tweeted Seattlepi.com reporter Casey McNerthney, an impromptu superhero press conference was interrupted when a tourist-laden “Ride the Ducks” amphibious vehicle rolled by, loudly blaring “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Judging by a report from Seattle’s KCPQ Fox-13 TV, Jones and his cohort spent much of the afternoon pointing out pedestrians as potential anarchists, answering impertinent questions from onlookers (“Why do you feel it necessary to be here, and not just let the police take care of it?”), and arranging to meet the other superheroes at Starbucks.
Around 4 p.m., the Seattle Police Department tweeted news of a “Brief disturbance earlier at 5th and Jackson between superheroes and clowns”—anarchists dressed as clowns, that is.

Schöne einstündige Doku über Superhelden in alten Fernsehserien vom Superman-Serial aus den 50s (die ich neulich erst komplett angesehen habe) über den obligatorischen 60s-Batman Adam West und den 70s-Hulk bis in die 80er.
They put on a costume to save lives and entertain a nation. They fought villains, rescued the innocent and became role models to viewers of every age. The superheroes of television lived so vividly in the public’s mind, that the actors would be defined by their larger-than-life portrayals. “I will never have a character that is that memorable. We heard about these guys that live their lives playing the role of a superhero, but we didn’t really understand why they did it; if it was because of their love and appreciation for superheroes or to actually protect their communities. Schöner Kommentar auf die amerikanische Einwandererpolitik von Neil Rivas, der eine Posterserie mit 27 illegal eingewanderten Superhelden in der Ramp Gallery in San Francisco ausstellt – inklusive Telefon-Hotlines für jeden einzelnen Helden, die beim Anruf die Geschichte der „illegalen Einwanderung“ erzählen.

Crossdressing Superheroes
Schöner Illu-Contest von Comicbook Resources, in dem die Leute Superhelden in den Kostümen von Superheldinnen zeichnen sollten, im Bild oben trägt Green Lantern den Dress von Star Sapphire. Nicht sehr subtile Anspielung auf den nicht sehr subtilen Sexismus bei weiblichen Comicfiguren.
Der Contest ist Teil der Reihe „The Line is drawn“ und die feierte vor ein paar Tagen ihre 100ste Ausgabe, ich hab’ mich da jetzt eine Weile durchgeklickt und die Themen sind mal mehr, mal weniger interessant, aber grade in den letzten Wochen hatten sie ‘nen echt guten Run, sei es ein Beastie Boys-Tribute oder Community Comics. Ich denke, das ist das absurdeste, was ich jemals über Proteste und Ausschreitungen gepostet habe: Angeblich hat Real Life Superhero Phoenix Jones bei Protesten in Seattle Pfefferspray auf Demonstranten gesprüht: Idiots In Superhero Costumes Reportedly Pepper Spraying Seattle May Day Protesters, wobei man Gawker nicht so richtig ernst nehmen sollte. In den Comments dort wird auf ein Video verwiesen von Phoenix Jones Brustkorb-Kamera. Was das hier zu einem POV-Video eines Real Life-Superhelden während der May Day-Proteste. WTF?!
The May Day demonstration takes a very unusual turn in Seattle. Phoenix Jones, Midnight Jack and El Caballero were out to protect buildings and citizens during the march. This is the uncut footage from the events outside the federal building on 6th ave in downtown Seattle captured from Phoenix Jones chest camera. Phoenix Jones did not paper spray any protesters, demonstrators or people.

Vintage Superhero Portraits
Foto Marvellini hübschen alte Fotografien mit Superhelden und Popkultur auf. Das Konzept ist alt und ziemlich durch, aber mir gefällt sowohl die Präsentation ihrer Arbeiten (in alten Bilderrahmen und auch mit Fake-MakingOf-Pics) als auch die stellenweise ungewöhnliche Auswahl. Ich hab’ mir grade bei meinem Comicdealer alle Alfred E. Neumann-Superhero-Actionfiguren bestellt. Die Dinger kommen in der zweiten Jahreshälfte in drei Serien: „Serie 1 (Alfred als Superman, Green Arrow & Aquaman) im Juli, Serie 2 (Alfred als Flash, Green Lantern & Wonder Woman -!-) im September, Serie 3 (Alfred als Batman, Robin & Joker) im November“.
