Google Earth Satellite-Timelapses
Google hat sich mit dem Time-Mag zusammengeschmissen und ihre Google Earth-Timelapses ausgebaut, die GIFs gingen vor zwei Jahren (oder so) schonmal durch’s Netz, jetzt gibt’s dazu ‘ne Website inklusive Suche.
Built from millions of satellite images and trillions of pixels, you can explore this global, zoomable time-lapse map as part of TIME’s new Timelapse project. View stunning phenomena such as the sprouting of Dubai’s artificial Palm Islands, the retreat of Alaska’s Columbia Glacier, the deforestation of the Brazilian Amazon and urban growth in Las Vegas from 1984 to 2012.
The images were collected as part of an ongoing joint mission between the USGS and NASA called Landsat. Their satellites have been observing earth from space since the 1970s—with all of the images sent back to Earth and archived on USGS tape drives.

Tolles Spielzeug von Teehan+Lax Labs, ein DIY-Timelapse-Dingsbums mit Fixpunkten für die Kamera per Google Streetview. Den Sourcecode gibt’s auf Github, damit kann man dann so schöne Videos machen, wie das obige.
Hyper-lapse photography – a technique combining time-lapse and sweeping camera movements typically focused on a point-of-interest – has been a growing trend on video sites. It’s not hard to find stunning examples on Vimeo. Creating them requires precision and many hours stitching together photos taken from carefully mapped locations. We aimed at making the process simpler by using Google Street View as an aid, but quickly discovered that it could be used as the source material. It worked so well, we decided to design a very usable UI around our engine and release Google Street View Hyperlapse.
The site settings are purposely low (like having a maximum of 60 frames per animation) for greater accessibility. However, all the source code is available on Github (including examples and documentation) so developers can play with higher frame rates, better image quality, and more complicated camera movements.

Faszinierendes Video vom Comiket, dem weltgrößten Comikmarkt für Selbstverlage, der zweimal in Tokyo stattfindet, das Video ist eine Timelapse-Aufnahme des Handlings der Menschenmassen. Ich hab sowas ähnliches mal vor mehr als zehn Jahren (in Flash) für einen Kunden visualisiert, das war ein ÖPNV-Unternehmen und die haben untersucht, welche Aufsteller und Papierkörbe und Automaten an welcher Stelle in U-Bahn-Stationen zu welchen Veränderungen bei den Wegen der Menschen führten. Spannend!
Comiket which is the world’s largest self publishing comic book fair that is held twice a year in Tokyo. The Convention draws crowds over 5000 attendees and they use strict crowd control to easily manage the amount of people that attend. The footage, which was compiled from photographs taken at intervals of 5 seconds, was filmed on the last day of Comiket from around 1:30 AM to 2:30 PM from the balcony of the nearby Washington Hotel.

Passenderweise, weil dort grade Hurricane Sandy (Pics, Live-Updates) auf New York trifft und die geräumte U-Bahn praktisch dasselbe zeigt, wie der Clip von Ross Ching, nur in echt. Penn Station, Wall Street, Central Park, Times Square, The Met and Fifth Avenue have never looked so vacant. Sorry New Yorkers, you won’t have much luck getting a cab, but you can experience your city beautiful and empty and take in the iconic streets and architecture without clutter!

Ich hab’ keine Ahnung, was „Stacks“ sein sollen, aber beim ansehen des Videos sehen die für mich wie Photoshop-Layer aus, die im Ebenen-Modus „Screen“ übereinandergelegt werden. Irgendwie sowas, nur für Videokram. Jedenfalls: Schick!
This Video was achived by “stacking” image sequences provided by NASA from the Crew at International Space Station. These Stacks create the Star Trails, but furthermore make interesting patterns visible. For example lightning corridors within clouds, but they also show occasional satellite tracks (or Iridium Flashes) as well as meteors – patterns that interrupt the main Star Trails, and thus are immediately visible.
The many oversaturated hot pixels in some scenes are the inevitable result of the very high ISO settings the Nikon D3s in use at the ISS have been dialed to keep exposure times as short as possible (due to the high speed the ISS travels with). Unfortunately as there are no dark frames or RAW data currently available, these hot pixels are not easy to remove.

Noah Kalina hat seinen Viral-Klassiker aktualisiert. Der Mann hatte vor sechs Jahren das erste (?) Daily-Fratze-Video online gestellt, wurde damit weltberühmt und landete damit sogar in den Simpsons. Wenn man mal bei den Simpsons dabei war, hat man’s wohl geschafft. Jedenfalls hat er sein Video jetzt aktualisiert und um die Jahre 2006 bis 2012 erweitert: „January 11, 2000 – June 30, 2012, 4514 Photos, A Work in Progress“. Alle Frames aus dem Clip gibt’s auf seinem Blog, der nächste Teil kommt dann wahrscheinlich 2018.

Animal Collective haben während den Aufnahmen ihres Albums „Strawberry Jam“ ständig eine Kamera laufen gehabt, die jede Minute einen einsekündigen Clip geschossen hat. Das Ergebnis ist ein hypnotisches Timelapse-Video der Sessions.
Scott Colburn had a great idea when we were recording Strawberry Jam. He set up a video camera to take short clips of footage once a minute for the whole time we were in the studio. This is the unedited result. Our tracking session for Strawberry Jam in Tucson at Wavelab Studios in 2007.

Ein Timelapse-Video einer ziemlich tollen Illu für’s Xabiroi Comic Book Magazine von jemandem namens Dei Gaztelumendi, das Teil nennt sich „Post-Apocalyptic Kids“: „Dei says that the magazine gave him complete control over the subject matter, so he decided to title it Post-Apocalyptic Kids. He also dedicated it to a friend who lost his leg in a motorbike accident last year, referring to him as the ‘toughest kiddo yet.’“

Nettes Timelapseprojekt von Ken Murphy, der (fast) ein ganzes Jahr Himmel über San Francisco zu einem Video-Mosaik aus 360-Minifilmen zusammengefügt hat, die jeweils einen kompletten Tag zeigen (zumindest die Stunden mit Tageslicht).
I installed a custom camera rig on the roof of the Exploratorium museum in SF, which captured an image of the sky every 10 seconds, around the clock, for a year. From these images, I created an array of time-lapse movies, each showing a single day, arranged chronologically, and playing in sync. My intention was to reveal the patterns of light and weather over the course of a year.
