V/H/S 2 – Trailer
Schön-fieser Trailer zum zweiten Teil von V/H/S, dessen Vorgänger ich trotz einer gewissen diffusen Ziellosigkeit sehr gerne mochte. Ich bin prinzipiell kein großer Freund von Found Footage, mag die neuere Generation dieses Sub-Genres allerdings ziemlich gerne. Die einzelnen Segmente kommen diesmal von Simon Barrett und Adam Wingard (VHS, A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next), Gareth Evans (The Raid), Eduardo Sanchez und Gregg Hale (Blair Witch Project), Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun) and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre). Tolles Regie-Ensemble mit mindestens drei Filmen, die ich gerne mag (und keiner davon heisst Blair Witch Project). Ich bin sehr gespannt.

Schöner Trailer zum neuen Riddick-Film. Ich mochte Pitch Black ja sehr, sehr gerne, die Game-Fortsetzung Escape From Butcher Bay gehört zu meinen Lieblingsspielen auf der ersten Xbox und über Chronicles of Riddick breiten wir einfach mal den Mantel des Schweigens, weil kacke. Aber das hier sieht mir nach genau der Mischung aus Trash, CGI-Space-Matte-Painting-Optik, Creature-Feature und Action aus, die bereits den ersten ausmachte. Werde ich mir definitiv ansehen.

Stanislav Lems The Congress – Trailer

Ganz, ganz großartiger Trailer zu Ari Folmans The Congress mit Harvey Keitel und Robin Wright, der lose auf Stanislav Lems Der futurulogische Kongress basiert. Ari Folman hatte 2008 den fantastischen Waltz with Bashir gedreht, und wie bei Waltz mischt er hier wieder Animation und Realfilm zu einem opulenten und für Lem angemessen weird aussehenden SciFi-Dingsbums, Der Film feiert auf dem Cannes Filmfest im Mai Premiere, für mich ein Pflichtfilm – ich liebe Stanislav Lem und ich liebe Waltz With Bashir und die Kombination aus beiden macht mich wirklich ziemlich feucht im Schritt.
Auf dem Poster sieht man übrigens im Hintergrund Picasso mit einer Blondine im Arm entlanglatschen, Osama Bin Laden und Jesus mit einem Herz-Tattoo-Print auf seinem Gewand. Der Trailer ist jetzt bereits gespickt mit Filmzitaten, mit The Congress könnte Ari Folman sein Mashup aus Tarantinoschem Zitatkino, französischem Fantasy-Opus und polnischer Science Fiction geschaffen haben und – ich beton’s extra nochmal – mich macht das extrem feucht im Schritt. Absolutes und komplettes Must Watch. Endlich eine angemessene Lem-Verfilmung. Ichkriegmichgarnichmehreinfantastisch. Mindblowing.
A loose adaptation of Stanislaw Lem’s “The Futurological Congress,” a 1971 black humour science fiction detailing the exploits of the hero of a number of his books, Ijon Tichy, as he visits the Eighth World Futurological Congress at the Costa Rica Hilton. The book is Lem’s take on the common sci-fi trope of an apparently Utopian future that turns out to be an illusion.

Ich weiß nicht, ob man sich Eric Schmidts und Jared Cohens Buch The New Digital Age wirklich durchlesen muss, für Menschen, die jetzt nicht erst seit gestern online rummachen, dürfte da nur sehr wenig neues drinstehen. Aber zugegeben: Der „Trailer“ – ich weiß nicht, ob man einen animierten, 13minütigen Vortrag wirklich noch Trailer nennen kann – zum Buch oben bedient bei mir hundertzweiundvierzig Trigger gleichzeitig, wobei die Stimme aus einem B-Movie-Trailer das Teil nicht grade seriöser erscheinen lässt.

Pacific Rim – Neuer Trailer

Doku-Trailer: A Band Called Death
Großartiger Trailer zur Doku A Band Called Death, über die Protopunks der, nun ja, Band Death, gegründet 1971 von Bobby, David und Dannis Hackney in Detroit. Death spielten nur zwei Jahre nach den Stooges als eine der ersten Bands der Welt einen Sound, für den Jahre später Bands wie die Ramones oder die Sex Pistols weltberühmt wurden. Aber Death wollte keiner haben, die Jungs schmissen hin und ließen die Bänder auf einem Dachboden verrotten, wo sie vor ein paar Jahren entdeckt und 2009 endlich veröffentlicht wurden. Der Film kommt am 24. Mai als Video on Demand und in ein paar Kinos in den USA, hierzulande wird man wahrscheinlich mit der Piratenbucht am glücklichsten. Must Watch.

Equal parts electrifying rockumentary and epic family love story, A Band Called Death chronicles the incredible fairy-tale journey of what happened almost three decades later, when a dusty 1974 demo tape made its way out of the attic and found an audience several generations younger. Playing music impossibly ahead of its time, Death is now being credited as the first black punk band (hell…the first punk band!), and are finally receiving their long overdue recognition as true rock pioneers.
Thor – The Dark World – Trailer
Hübscher Trailer für den zweiten Thor. Ich mochte den ersten Teil ja mit Abstrichen ganz gerne, mir hat zwar nicht so ganz gepasst, dass sie die komplette Donald Blake-Origin-Story weggelassen haben – offensichtlich war ein transformierender Doktor (nämlich Bruce „Hulk“ Banner) genug – und Asgard war im Film leider äußerst tot und leer, im Gegensatz zum Comic, aber insgesamt war der Film mehr als okay und in der Reihe der Marvel-Verfilmungen durchaus stimmig.
Überhaupt finde ich, dass Marvel mit seinen selbst produzierten Verfilmungen bislang sehr viel richtig macht, bin sehr gespannt auf ihre Phase 2-Filme, vor allen Dingen auf „Ant-Man“. Weil Hank Pym is the shit.

Schöner Trailer zu „Punk in Africa“, der die Wurzeln der Mucke in der Rebellion der weißen Kids gegen die Rassenpolitik ihrer Eltern ausmacht, die sich mit den Schwarzen zusammentaten und drei Akkorde runterspielten. Der Film befindet sich seit letztem Jahr im Festivalzirkus, Screenings findet man auf der Facebook-Seite. Ob und wann der bei uns zu sehen sein wird, kann ich nicht sagen. Leider.
Three chords, three countries, one revolution…PUNK IN AFRICA is the story of the multi-racial punk movement within the recent political and social upheavals experienced in three Southern African countries: South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. In these societies, the punk subculture represented a genuinely radical political impulse, playing out against a backdrop of intense political struggle, economic hardship and even civil war.
PUNK IN AFRICA traces this until-now untold story from its roots in the underground rock music of early 1970s Johannesburg, the first multi-racial punk bands formed in the wake of the Soweto Uprising and the militant anti-apartheid hardcore and post-punk bands of the 1980s to the rise of celebratory African-inspired ska bands which sprang up from Cape Town to Maputo in the democratic era of the 1990s. Today, an emerging generation of bands continue to draw on this legacy to confront the political challenges of contemporary Zimbabwe and the uncertain identity issues of the Afrikaans minority in South Africa.

Elysium – Trailer
Hier der Trailer zu Elysium (hier noch eine Viral-Seite mit ein paar weiteren Visuals) mit Matt Damon, Jodie Foster und Sharlto Copley, Neill Blomkamps zweitem Film nach dem sensationellen „District 9“ (Review hier). So wie das aussieht, dürfte Elysium ebenfalls wieder ein ziemliches Brett werden und Blomkamp strickt hier seine Mischung aus ganz eigener, gritty-realistischer Bildsprache, irren Effekten, Gesellschaftskritik und dem Thema Immigration zu intelligenter Science-Fiction, die derzeit anscheinend nur er im Kino hinbekommt.
Und anscheinend spinnt Blomkamp den Plot von District 9 in Elysium mit anderen Figuren mehr oder weniger weiter: Am Ende von District 9 saß Wikus van de Merwe als Alien in den Slums von Südafrika und hoffte auf eine Rückkehr in die „gehobene Gesellschaft“, hier kämpft sich Matt Damon seinen Weg eben genau dahin, nach Elysium.
Ich war und bin ja immer noch sehr enttäuscht, dass sich Chris Cunningham nie zu einem „richtigen“ Filmemacher aufgeschwungen hat, nun – Neill Blomkamp erscheint mir da ein mehr als würdiger Nachfolger, auch wenn ihm dessen Gespür für Schnitt ein bisschen fehlt. Dafür aber hat er ein mindestens ebenso großes Talent für Cutting-Edge-Visuals und darüber hinaus auch noch eine Geschichte zu erzählen, die noch dazu Substanz aufweist und den ganzen Lifestyle-Luxus-Bullshit mit fetten Laserwummen auseinanderfetzt. Großartig, ich bin sehr begeistert!

Toller Trailer zu Terence Nances „An Oversimplification of Her Beauty“, eine auf den ersten Blick sehr smarte Mischung aus Fiktion, Doku und Animationsfilm:

Carrie – Trailer

Hier der erste richtige Trailer zum Carrie-Remake, wobei mir nicht wirklich klar ist, ob das hier ein Remake von DePalmas Film wird, oder eine Neu-Interpretation von Stephen Kings Buch, wobei sich DePalma ja sehr nahe an die Vorlage gehalten hat, vom Ende mal abgesehen. Der Trailer erzählt übrigens praktisch bereits die komplette Story, nur falls die jemand noch nicht kennen sollte. Wie auch immer.
Ich mag sowohl Buch als auch DePalmas Verfilmung sehr, sehr gerne und halte die Story in ihrer klaren Struktur und den pointierten Ausbrüchen für eine von Kings stärksten Arbeiten. Sie steht für mich in einer Reihe mit der Komplexität von „Es“, dem subtilen Horror aus „Shining“ oder der psychologischen Intensität von „Christine“, die allesamt als Verfilmungen mehr oder weniger versagt hatten. (Shining versagt in der Hinsicht, dass es keine wirkliche Verfilmung von Kings Geister-Hotel-Story ist, als eigenständiger Film ist der natürlich hervorragend.)
Das Doofe ist nun: Ich nehme weder Julianne Moore die Rolle als fanatische Mutter in ihrem religiösen Wahn, noch Chloë Moretz das geschundene, gemobbte und völlig verstörte Mädchen ab. Natürlich war Sissy Spacek für DePalma ein fast schon singulärer Glücksgriff in der Rolle der Carrie White und Piper Laurie als Margaret White fast ebenso gut, nur fällt es sehr schwer, sich mit solchen Performances als Vorbild auf neue Darsteller einzulassen.
Und: Selbstverständlich wird sich das Remake auch am fantastischen Finale des Originals messen lassen müssen und ich glaube kaum, dass Kimberly Pierce (Boys don’t cry) hier nochmal eine so ikonographische Szene hinbekommen wird. DePalmas Abschlußball-Szene ist in ihrem Aufbau und der formvollendeten, konzertierten Mixtur aus Parallelmontagen und Split-Screen nahezu perfekt inszeniert und nicht zu toppen. Man kann daher nur hoffen, dass Frau Pierce einen ganz eigenen Weg gehen wird und dem Stoff ein paar neue Ebenen hinzufügen wird, ich kann mir sehr gut vorstellen, dass das Ende aus Kings Buch in diesem Film sehr viel mehr Raum erhalten wird, als in der Vorlage. Ich bleibe allerdings mehr als skeptisch, auch wenn das hier ein absoluter Pflichtfilm für mich ist.
World War Z – Neuer Trailer
Hier der neue WWZ-Trailer, eigentlich sollte der am Montag online Premiere feiern, ist aber geleakt. Hüpfende CGI-Tetris-Zombies und ein paar nette Panorama-Shots. Werd’ ich mir selbstverständlich trotzdem ansehen.
